I had quite an eventful journey! Whilst leaving London, our plane was struck by lightening. We had to pass through a few more storms on the way to Singapore, which made the journey very turbulent! There was a lot of turbulence over Thailand especially. At Singapore airport, I got 15 minutes on the internet, and then laid on the loungers for a bit reading my book. I had a little wander around, and then I headed to my gate. The flight from Singapore to Brisbane was okay. I slept most of the way, but there was an annoying little kid next to me and he kept whining, which by the end of 7 1/2 hours was winding me up! The food on all my flights was lovely. I have been given a tour around the flat ... read more

I can't believe it... I am sitting in my house writing this! That is the most wierd thing ever! We left Auckland at around 9:45pm, and we had the worst seats on the plane. We had the two seats right in the middle of the plane, which means we had a person on each side of us, so it was not very easy to keep getting up and walking around... It wasn't as bad as I had expected. I watched a couple of movies, and we were served dinner which was quite nice - I had roast beef, kumara and peas, we also got ice-cream for pudding, which was nice. I slept for a little while until they turned on the lights and served us with hotcakes for breakfast. They were really tasty! We landed in ... read more

Hello everyone... I can't believe that this is the last entry that I will be writing while on this gap year tour! It has been so much fun, and I don't want it to end because I will have to go back to work, and do all of the boring things again! Thursday was a quiet day for us, we spent most of the morning playing board games with Ellen, and that was fun. At 12 noon, Ellen went to Ranjit's house and Ranee had to go out, so we watched some DVDs, went on the internet and played some card games. It was really relaxing, and we also did a bit of packing. We were all up at 04:45am on Friday morning, and at 5:20am, we drove to another part of Auckland to watch the ... read more

Monday morning we were picked up at 9:20am, and we had the best bus driver Steve again. We drove along the coast for a while, and took lots of photos as it was really pretty. We saw a colony of seals on the way to Picton, and we stopped there to take a couple of photos. When we got to Picton, we checked our bags in and went upstairs and watched Steve playing a hunting video game while we were waiting to be able to board the ship. We had to wait about 30 minutes for boarding to begin, but we were sat in the sun, so it was nice! When we did get on board, we headed straight for the cafe, and got lunch. We read our books, and I did some crosswords while we ... read more

We arrived in Kaikoura on Friday at around 12:00pm, and our afternoon was spent watching movies and TV, and doing our journals and reading... A relaxing afternoon! We were meant to go whale watching yesterday, but when we woke up, the weather was not at its best. It was very windy, cold and raining. We phoned the whale watch company at 9:30am and they told us that due to the sea conditions they had cancelled the trip and we were given a full refund. It was a bit of a dissapointment, but it would not have been nice going out in that weather! So, instead of watching whales, we went on the internet, sat by the fire, played cards and Mel did some washing. Then in the afternoon, we braved the weather and walked into the ... read more

Had a bit of a crazy night last night.... Started out at about 8:30pm down in the Altitude bar which is attached to the hostel that we were staying in... Had a glass of wine there with Mel and Jess and then bumped into Andrew, Elizabeth, Fia, Fia's boyfriend and Paul. Jess and I headed out to 'The World Bar' with everyone when Mel went to bed as she was tired. When we got to the World Bar, it was half price on 'teapots'. Basically a teapot is what it says on the tin. It is a normal teapot filled with different cocktails. I shared an 'Illusion teapot' with Jess to start with, it was really nice. It was bacardi and vodka and pineapple juice and tasted really good. After the teapot we headed down the ... read more

The night that we arrived in Queenstown, we got some shopping for dinner, came back to the hostel and made spaghetti bolognese for dinner. It was really nice, especially as we had some cheese to put on top of it! Then after dinner, we got showered and dressed nicely, and went out to the bar that is attached to the hostel. It was the karaoke evening, so we decided to go and laugh at people doing it! We met up with Jess and another guy called Ron. We had a few drinks, and when the karaoke started, we watched a few people doing it, and then as we had to get up early the next morning, we went to bed at about 11pm. Yesterday morning we woke up at 7am, and had breakfast and got our ... read more

Last night we spent the night in a small town called Wanaka. It is a really beautiful place that is on the edge of a glassy lake called... Lake Wanaka! Very original! We went out for dinner as it was Mel's birthday, and we had really nice food for dinner. Then we watched the end of the movie 'In her shoes' as we had a TV in our room, and the movies were FREE! This morning we left Wanaka at around 9am, and went to 'Puzzling World' where we walked through the illusion rooms, and saw all of the holographic illusions, and went into a slanted room that made your head go really funny, and made you want to fall over! We took some photos, and then sat in the cafe and tried some of the ... read more

Hi everyone, Mel writing here as yesterday Lauren and I did different things. The glacier walk was absolutely amazing! I thought I'd be freezing but it was warm with my 3 layers. We had to climb up really steep ice stairs then go through tunnels and through really narrow crevasses. It was an adventure and a very tiring day. I found once I stopped moving my muscles ached and my feet have lovely blisters on the back but it was worth it. I've got some pictures so I'll put them up too. The only downside of the day was that I couldn't spend it with Lauren, bit of a shame but we both had good days nonetheless. Today is the 12th, a day before my birthday! It is really weird not being at home for it, ... read more
