There is a cafe in the Karol Bagh market that is located on the second floor of one of the many shops, and I have been wanting to go there for about a week. So after class today I took my camera and walked about 4-5 blocks to Cafe Coffee Day. You can sit out on the balcony and watch the market goers below. It was nice, and I was able to get a lot of pictures of the local people without getting stared at in return. :) The waiter came to my table and I ordered a latte (R 30 or $.50) and a piece of walnut cake. I was asked if I wanted chocolate on it as well, so I said yes. Who am I to pass up chocolate? When the waiter returned with ... read more

Well I passed my second exam. Yippy! I'm pretty relieved since I was alittle scatterbrained this past week. You can only cram so much info into your brain in such a short time. So now I am ready to go back to my hotel and sleep but my instructor, Sandeep (San- deep), is cracking the whip. I'm only kidding. He's standing behind me looking over my shoulder as I type this blog laughing. :) But in just a bit we will begin working on learning about network infrastructures. There is no rest for the weary! :) Actually that's ok because if we are ahead of schedule then we have some wiggle room, and that means less stress. Koenig has 4 locations within India, and one of them that sounds wonderful is Goa. It's suppose to have ... read more

Today I went to the Lotus Temple, it's also called the Baha'i House of Worship. It is a beautiful place. The actual temple is in the shape of the lotus flower and is covered in white marble. I was surprised to find out that more people visit the Lotus Temple than the Taj Mahal. Granted the Taj Mahal is much further away, but I was still surprised. It was a bit hectic, the paths were roped off and you had to follow the crowd instead of wandering the grounds. So I was a little disappointed by that. Since it is a holy place you must remove your shoes before entering the temple. So after taking your shoes off you place them in a bag and check your shoes. Then you follow the rest of the people ... read more

I wanted to show you the Karol Bagh market.... It's only half a block away from where I'm staying. I could probably find it in the dark because at the corner is a public restroom (it's more like a 2 walls, one the men pee on and the other barely blocking your view) and you can smell the urine. So from there you turn left or right and enjoy the crowded market place. Stores and vendors line the street. While rickshaws, scooters and cars weave around people and animals alike. You can get most anything there from the typical saris to Reebok sports wear. BTW...you can't really get that much of a deal at the Reebok store, too bad. But I wanted to tell you about my favorite fruit stand. Go back to the urine corner, ... read more

It's hard to believe that I am beginning to think life here is normal. Not that it's a bad thing, it's just that life in India is 180 degrees opposite from what I am use to. There's a rhythm to life here that I'm starting to find, and that feels good. I wake up and get ready for the day, then head downstairs to eat breakfast with my classmates. We wait outside for our ride to Koenig. Once we get there I try to talk to as many people as possible, working on becoming more of an extrovert. After class we head back to the hotel, study, hit the market, and figure out what to do about dinner. Lets see... I've bought fruit at the local market (no not a grocery store), and gave directions to ... read more

Happy Diwali! Some know it as the Festival of Lights, but it's the New Year of luck and wealth. It's celebrated by Hindus, Janis, and Sikhs; each one having their own special significance but I'm too worn out to go into it all. I was fortunate enough to be invited to celebrate Diwali with one of the instructors' family, along with 3 other students. Let me tell you it was so fun. We ate so much food that I wasn't hungry for breakfast. LOL I don't know the names of the food but it's all vegetarian and it tastes soooo good. :) The whole time people were setting off firecrackers outside (actually all over Delhi). Some of them were so loud that they sounded like bombs. Yami, one of my classmates, could hardly wait to set ... read more

I can hardly believe that I went to the Taj Mahal! How cool is that! I will say that no matter what neither words nor pictures truly convey how beautiful this place is. Let me start at the beginning.... Originally when I mentioned to some of the students that I was planning on going to the Taj Mahal there were quite a bit who were interested. So I went ahead and planned a trip, but a few backed out. That wasn't going to stop me from going. There was no way that I would travel this far and not go to the Taj. Hello!!!! Anyway, it worked out that the day before the trip my instructor and two other students asked if I was still going and wanted to know if they could come along. It ... read more

To answer everyone's question yes I did pass my test. Yippy! One test down and too many to count but that's ok I can handle it. I decided to bring my camera to school today so you can see what it looks like. This is the traffic in front of Koenig. I would say that it's rush hour traffic but no that's just normal for here. Here is the school, it's nice especially for here. Finally I'd like you to meet my instructor Himanshu. So now I'm working on the next section of my MCSE course, it's the managing and maintanance of server 2003 environment. I like to refer to it as "How to turn my brain into mush." After class I met up with a friend and was given a tour of the building project ... read more

I'm sitting in my class working on my practicals thinking about grilled cheese sandwiches. At this point I would give my two front teeth for one warm grilled cheese sandwich. Which makes it pretty difficult to focus on dynamic disks, IP protocols and all the other fun geek squad stuff I'm learning. Heaven forbid I start drooling! My instructor may think that I am a true computer geek like all the shoe watchers here! LOL Maybe I will head over to the Embassy tomorrow and hopefully satisfy my craving. That will be my reward for taking my first MCSE test. Wish me luck. :) I'm planning on going to the Taj Mahal on Sunday which is my only day off. I can hardly wait! Hopefully a few of the students will be able to go, but ... read more

I just wanted to show you some of the everyday things... You have to put your room key into this little wall pocket in order to have any power. Once the key is removed everything turns off, including the mini-frig. Now if that's not being energy efficient I don't know what is. Hmm...I wonder if we could come up with a modified version of that. Oh yes this is my breakfast. Every morning I have toast, black coffee, and mango juice. Yum! Here's my bathroom! See the bucket that's my toilet. I'm just kidding it's really my bathtub! Actually I'm not to sure why I have a bucket. I honestly don't have a bathtub, and the shower is just out in the open. There's nothing dividing the shower from the rest of the bathroom. So if ... read more
