My first day of school went well. It's kinda funny talking about "my first day of school" I feel like a little kid... Anyway, i head down to the lobby to wait for my ride and find that there's 4 other students waiting for the van. We didn't have to wait long for the nearly full van to pull up, and we all pile in. It's almost like a clown car, there's 9 of us stuffed into a little mini van. We arrived at the school and were ushered into the lunch room where we filled out paperwork. We did the usual "what's your name?" "what course are you taking?" "where are you from?" and so on. Once we signed on the dotted line then it was time to go to class. Interestingly enough I am ... read more

Wow, talk about worn out! I met a friend who works in New Delhi for lunch today. We decided to meet at the Imperial Hotel, let me tell you that it is a very nice hotel. It's so clean and quiet. The smell of jasmine greets you at the door. I felt a little shabby to be honest, but it didn't stop me. By the time Jim and I met up I didn't want to leave the hotel, I thought to my self "that's it I'm staying here!" But I did leave and thankfully I did the rooms are reasonably priced at around $600 a night. That's ok my motel 6 equivelant has room service! :P Ok enough with that. We went to Qutab Minar which is the tallest brick minaret in Delhi. It was built ... read more

Well I am doing much better than yesterday. Thankfully. I decided that I might as well start checking out some of the sights around New Delhi and I chose to see the India Gate. So I hired a taxi and haggled the driver down to about half the price of the fair. Yeah me I'm getting better at this. So after zipping through traffic and squeezing past busses over flowing with passengers and weaving in and out of rickshaws I made it there. Apparently the taxi driver thought that it was enough that we drove past the India Gate until I told him that I want to actually get out of the vehicle and look around. Shocking I know! India Gate is a towering arch that was built to commemorate the Indian soldiers who died in ... read more

Oh boy do I have a case of the culture shocks. Wow I knew that I would be adjusting to a lot of new things but who knew that just getting something so simple as WIFI would be such a big deal. You really do become so dependent on technology that when it doesn't work the way it normally does it can throw you for a loop. Anyway, I landed in New Delhi at 3:30 this morning and haven't slept since. By the time I got through customs, got my luggage and found my ride it was almost 5:00 before I checked into the hotel. The air was and still is quite smokey and as the driver took me through various parts of New Delhi on our way to the hotel I caught sight of men, ... read more

I learned a very important rule while flying, make sure the name on your airline tickets match what is on your visa! Fortunately the people at Qatar airways were able to fix the problem very quickly. I didn't even have to get my birth certificate out :P As I was waiting to board the plane the person who originally helped me with my ticketing just smiled and said "Glad you made it." The flight was a nice one, and I slept most of the way to Doha. Oh Mom you will like this, they handed out socks to everyone so your toes would stay warm. Luckily, the flight wasn't full so I had the row to myself (the row consisted of one extra seat). I was so happy I could have done the happy dance but ... read more

Ok, I'm nearly finished packing. I made a list, checked it twice (more like 100 times) and I am sure that there are things that I have forgotten. But isn't that part of the whole travel experience? I think so at least. Hmmm....I'm not really sure what to write. The more that I think of getting on that plane and flying to Delhi the more nervous I become. If I was a nail biter I wouldn't have any nails left. LOL I know that this is a trip of a lifetime and one that I never thought would ever happen. It doesn't seem real just yet. I'm ready to go. I'm ready to start my training and to see everything that I can see while I'm there. I want to visit the Taj Mahal, the Red ... read more
