The only time you don't hear the sound of horns honking is when there is a wedding procession. The reason for this is because the music is so loud it drowns out everything else! The hallways at the hotel here just echoed with the music. Mom, the pimped out cars with the base booming so loud that you can feel them before they drive past you have nothing on these wedding processions. I was actually studying in my room when I heard this loud music and out of curiosity I had to find out what it was all about. Hmm...I wonder where I got that from? When I looked out the window I saw this procession walking down the street following this cart, pulled by men, blasting music as they slowly moved up the street. So ... read more

It's 6:45pm Thanksgiving night.... I'm starving, which is a good thing compared to yesterday when I couldn't keep anything in. Whew! So now I am ready to have some turkey and stuffing. We can't forget the mashed potatoes n' gravy, cranberries, and green bean casserole. Yum. It's not good to be talking about food when you're hungry, it's worse than grocery shopping while you're hungry. I have to admit that I was never that big of fan of Thanksgiving. Mainly because you eat yourself silly and watch football. Hmmm, not one of my favorite things. But to get into the whole festive mood of things here's my list of what I am thankful for... My family and friends Taking that risk and answering the email...I'm glad I did Hot showers This roller coaster of a trip ... read more

Just to let you guys know I am perfectly fine. Mumbia is 700miles south of Delhi and I am over 100 miles north of Delhi. So we are no where close to where the attacks happened. I'm in class now and will call you as soon as I get a chance. No worries.... read more

A group of us had planned to trek up to Mussoorie for over a week. I have to say that I had a great time even though my lungs were trying to jump out of my chest and head home. Yes, I wasn’t physically ready for this trek, but that’s ok neither was anyone else. We met up at around 6:30am and started our adventure through/over the mountain to Mussoorie. It took us about 4 hours to get there. I’m not exactly sure how many miles/kilometers we walked but my best guess would be somewhere close to 20 kilometers, but sometimes it felt like 200 kilometers. There were parts that were so steep you could only walk a short distance before you just had to stop and catch your breath. It was actually funny, in a ... read more

GREAT! I'm out of money. That wouldn't be a problem except I lost my ATM card so now I'm broke. So what do you do when you're in a foreign country and penniless? Easy, take a deep breath and get a job at a local restaurant. Unfortunately, when you can't pay your expenses the hotel can keep your bags. That just stinks! The restaurant that I'm working at wont allow you to work in jeans, so I had to trade a local shop owner my jeans for some more appropriate work clothes. Here is a picture of my new attire. What do you think? It's pretty comfy but not very warm. BTW- I'm so kidding! I am doing ok. This picture was just perfect for a story like this, that's all. ... read more

I figured that it was time to show you what I am actually doing over here in Dehradun, besides playing tourist. I'm getting my learning on!!!!!!! See here's the proof. :P So far I've learned about DNS and DHCP servers, OU's (organizational units are like filing cabinets or trash cans), GPO's (group policy objects tell you what you can or can't do), Active Directory, Domain Controller, and 9 million other things that sound just as mysteriously boring. I'm surprised at how much I have retained, but to be honest there's so much more to learn. I don't think it will ever end. That's actually OK. The normal routine is this.... We are picked up in the morning and by about 9ish, after we have a cup or 3 of tea/coffee we begin class. Then we go ... read more

I passed my exam! Now I know that I say that I was nervous about whatever exam I was about to take but this one nearly kicked my butt. I was so tempted to walk in to the exam and tell the lady forget it I will take the exam on Monday. Well I changed my mind, and now I get to relax. Where is my umbrella drink? LOL 2 book, 2 exams, 2 weeks. That’s all I have left in my course. I’m relieved and yet…naw I’m relieved. Let’s face it, trying to cram so much information into your brain in such a short time is far from fun. But it is worth it in the end, especially when I get my certificate. So now I’m going to meet up with some of the students, ... read more

When I first arrived in Delhi I had no concept of how much things cost compared to back home. I wasn't sure if R100 was the normal rate for a rickshaw or if I was being taken advantage of. I learned that it all depends on what you are willing to pay and where you want to go. LOL Honestly I am only half kidding on that. But you talk to other people and you quickly learn what the going rate for things actually is. Just to give you an idea of the actual cost of things I made a little list for you. Here is the low down on how much some of the everyday items cost. Shampoo Packet R1.50 $0.03 (trial size) Metro Fare R16 $0.37 Latte R65 $0.88 Beer: King Fisher R80 $1.70 ... read more
