We awoke at 6am and went down to the lobby for the breakfast buffet. It was pretty good. At about 7am, we got the shuttle to the airport. The security line was not too bad, and we were through in about 20 minutes. We headed down to gate E29 where our flight was departing from. The flight was not leaving until 10:15am, so we went into the Delta Sky Club for a couple of hours. We just relaxed and had some snacks, before heading back to the gate at about 9:30am. Soon we were on board Delta 5607, a CRJ-700 aircraft to Georgetown, Bahamas. We were seated in business class and I was in seat 2C. The man next to me was really cool to talk to and it made the flight go quickly. I had ... read more

Normally the girls have two days off and the weekend for fall break, but this year they changed the calendar so that they have two weeks off! We had looked into going to Japan. My wife lived in Japan for a couple of years and really wanted to go back. As the date got closer, it became clear that Japan would not work for stand-by travel. The flights were very full! We then looked at South America, including Santiago and Buenos Aires. They were not full, but they did not look great either. Besides that, the reciprocity fee down there turns me off. Finally, we decided to fly into Europe and visit a couple of places, specifically Vienna. My wife really wanted to go to a beach, and with winter coming soon, that did not sound ... read more

I have always wanted to see Istanbul. I think the city looks so pretty on the water and with all the minarets that tower from the different mosques. After our trip to Budapest a few weeks ago, I had caught the travel bug again big time! My wife and I discussed places for future trips and I suggested Istanbul. She did not like that choice. She did not want to visit Turkey due to her Armenian heritage from her Mothers side. I asked if I could go alone, and she gave me the ok. Our flight to Istanbul is very tough to get on as a stand-by passenger, and even tougher to get on in business class, which is why I had not done the trip before. I scouted our flight schedules and saw that the ... read more

We awoke at 5am, got ready, and checked out of the Mercure. It was Easter morning and we were pleasantly surprised to find 3 large chocolate bunnies outside our room when we left. All down the halls of the hotel you could see different amounts of chocolate bunnies outside rooms, depending on the number of guests. How cool that the Mercure "Easter Bunny" visited us and was so kind to leave chocolates! We took the shuttle at 6:30am to FRA airport and checked in for our flight. We went to the gate and waited, while having some breakfast snacks. At 9:40am, we were on board Delta flight 143, a 767-400 aircraft to Detroit. Once in the air a lunch was served. I had the rigatoni pasta, which was ok. The appetizers of Thai curry shrimp and ... read more

It is never fun to return from a fun trip, but that is what we had to start doing this day. We had decided to split up the return trip and spend a day in Frankfurt. We awoke at 6am and prepared our luggage. After checking out of the hotel, we caught a taxi to Budapest airport. It took about 20 minutes to get there. We checked in for Lufthansa 1335 to Frankfurt and went to the gate to wait. We had a quick breakfast snack in order to burn our last Hungarian Forints. At 9:25am, we were on board the Airbus 319 and I was in seat 9F. It was a quick and smooth flight to Frankfurt, in which we were served some fresh fruit and drinks. When we arrived at Frankfurt, we ate some ... read more

Woke up early once again and this time bought our breakfast foods at the Great Market. We ate them in the square across the street again. We then purchased tickets for the "hop on/hop off bus. Normally I think these buses are a great way to see a city for a low price. However, I do not think this is so for Budapest and I do not recommend doing it. The tour was not very efficient and they screwed us out of our "free" Danube cruise that evening. Anyways, we rode the bus around the Danube to Buda Castle Hill. We stayed up there for well over an hour, admiring all the different views of the city. We snapped many photos and also got to see the changing of the guard. We walked over to Fisherman's ... read more

We awoke pretty early and got ready. We walked a few blocks to a little bakery and got some breakfast snacks, and then went to eat it in the square across from the Great Market. After our meal, we went inside the market. The choices of foods and gifts in the market are almost overwhelming. It was packed with people getting foods for the coming Easter holiday. We sampled a few things and bought some gifts. We spent a good hour in there and then went out and walked down Vaci Street. It was another great weather day! We took Vaci all the way to Vorosmarty Ter, while checking out all the shops and restaurants along the way. I visited the Hard Rock Cafe quickly, just to get my visit credited. We also checked out the ... read more

Our connection from Frankfurt to Budapest was at 12:40pm, on Lufthansa flight 1338. I was seated in seat 34C on the Airbus 321 aircraft. The flight was quick and mostly smooth until the approach to Budapest. Once on the ground, we went out to the curbside and caught a taxi to the city. It took about 20 minutes to get there. We checked in to the Mercure Korona hotel and then we showered and changed. My wife and daughter went swimming, while I went out to explore the city. I walked down to the banks of the Danube River and took some pictures, and then continued walking across the Liberty Bridge, and went halfway up Gellert Hill to get a good view. I was out for an hour or so before heading back to the hotel. ... read more

We decided to visit Budapest for our spring break trip. We left Indianapolis on Tuesday April 3 at 11:49am, on Delta flight 672, an Airbus 319 aircraft. I was seated in coach seat 10E. It was a quick and smooth flight up to Detroit. Once there, we had a good 4 hours or more, so we went and had some lunch at National Coney Island, which was a very good option for food at Detroit airport. I had a gyros sandwich, and water to drink. At about 5pm, we were onboard Delta flight 142 for our 5:35 departure. I was in business class seat 6A on this 767-400 aircraft. The flight was mostly smooth and took around 8 hours to get to Frankfurt. I watched the movie "Moneyball" and listened to some music during the flight. ... read more

To leave from a holiday is tough. To leave from this paradise is even tougher! The day had come though. It seems like you have forever when you arrive and then bam! The time is gone. We awoke early and ate some breakfast. We then decided to walk the beach one more time. At about 11am we went back to do the final packing. At about noon, we caught a taxi to Exuma airport. The ride was about 20 minutes and it was with the same driver who brought us from the airport. He was real nice and he gave us a CD of local music. Our flight was at 1:15 pm and the whole airport check in procedure was very easy. This flight was wide open for stand-by travel and they cleared us for business ... read more
