Europe » France » Île-de-France » Marne-la-Vallée October 21st 2007

I am not a Disney fan by any means, but I did want to see this, and with a 6 year old daughter, we did just that! It was a long hour ride out to Marne La Vallee, where the park is located. It was a fun day and the park was a lot more crowded than I thought it would be. We stayed until closing at 10 pm and then made the long trek back to the Ibis. I stopped for some shawarma too. We were able to use the Brochant Metro stop today, which is the closest stop to the hotel.... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris October 20th 2007

Today we awoke early and headed down to the Arc de Triomphe. We then did the leisurely stroll down the Champs, all the way down until we were at The Louvre. The Rugby World Cup Final was later this day and so there were happy fans all over, especially for England and South Africa. I fit in very well with my Springboks shirt. I had picked it up back in 1995 in Cape Town, when South Africa won the Cup. We walked from The Louvre to Notre Dame and then to the Chatelet Metro station. We took the Metro to the Richelieu Drouot stop so I could go to the Hard Rock Cafe. I just went in for a quick visit and then we went across the street and ate at a restaurant called Victoria Station. ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris October 19th 2007

We arrived around 11 am and were ready to get to the city. I was thinking it would be a horrible experience with the strike and had contemplated other ways to get to the city. We decided to at least check the RER station to see what was going on. It was good that we did because a train was about to leave and we were told it was free because of the strike. We took the RER to Gare du Nord and transferred to the Nation/Porte Dauphine line. We rode that line to Place de Clichy and attempted to transfer two stops up from there to Brochant. There were very few trains operating on that route so we walked to the hotel from Place de Clichy, which was about a half mile. Our hotel was ... read more

North America » United States » Michigan » Romulus October 18th 2007

This was my 4th visit to Paris but I had not been since August of 1996, so I was very excited! We drove up to Fort Wayne to catch our Northwest Airlink CRJ to Detroit. We had to sit in DTW for about 6 hours but at least it's a nice terminal to wait in. We happened to see on the news that a transit strike was occurring in Paris. Oh great, we thought! At 9:20 pm, Northwest 50 to Paris departed. The flight was smooth and routine.... read more

Central America Caribbean » Jamaica » Ocho Rios August 25th 2007

Wow, what a great place! Such friendly people the Jamaicans are! We flew down to Fort Lauderdale on a Northwest Airlink CRJ-200 and then caught a Spirit Airlines A-319 to Montego Bay. It was about 2 hours and $40 return by bus to Ocho Rios from there. One thing that I noticed right away is that the north side of the island was spared from Hurricane Dean. There was almost zero visible damage. After arriving into Ocho Rios and checking into The Silver Seas Hotel, we went to Dunn's River Falls. This was the best part of the whole trip. It costs $15 to enter and is well worth it. They have free changing rooms and a locker will cost you $5. There is also a nice beach at the base of the Falls. Climbing the ... read more

North America » Mexico » Jalisco » Puerto Vallarta May 31st 2007

This was my second time in Puerto Vallarta, with the first being back in August of 1996. I did enjoy that trip very much and so I was glad to come back. I flew from Indianapolis to Atlanta on a Delta Connection EMB-170 and connected to Puerto Vallarta(PVR) on a Delta 737-800, getting first class on that flight!! I enjoyed a nice little lunch and a few gin and tonics before touching down in Mexico 3 1/2 hours later. I took a taxi to the Hotel Emperador, which is where I stayed last time I was in PVR. I find the hotel very relaxing, with a good beach. I just spent the day lounging at the beach and I also visited the local Hard Rock Cafe. I was going to go and visit family in Las ... read more

Europe » Poland » Masovia » Warsaw March 16th 2007

I was planning on flying to Warsaw on Thursday March 1 but there were severe thunderstorms in the Midwest that day. Besides that, my friends flight from Seattle to Chicago was delayed beyond making the connection to the LOT flight bound for Warsaw. I was going to Warsaw for the grand opening of the Hard Rock Cafe. I changed the date to Thursday March 16 and even though my friend could not make it this time, I went anyway. The flights to Chicago that day were all looking kind of "iffy" so I decided to drive up to O'Hare airport. The LOT airlines 767-300 was booked near capacity and I did not know for sure if I would make the flight so I waited patiently by the gate for them to call my name. I did ... read more

Middle East » Kuwait » Al Kuwait June 1st 2006

I had always wanted to see the Kuwait Towers in person. The architecture of them is amazing to me! I finally set out to do just that on May 31, 2006. I would also visit the Kuwait Hard Rock Cafe while there. I departed Indy to Philadelphia in the early afternoon on a Northwest Airlink CRJ-200 aircraft. After a few hours at PHL, I caught British Airways flight 66, a 777 to London and they upgraded me to business class! I arrived early the next morning into London and waited a few hours again for Kuwait Airways 104, another 777. I was really impressed with the Kuwait service! We arrived into Kuwait in the early evening and the sun was still out. The visa process was not quick but after about an hour I was out ... read more

This was one of those trips in which very little planning was involved. I had been looking at the American Airlines flights to Panama and saw that they were open and decided to go. Wednesday July 13 I left Indy at 1pm on an American Eagle EMB-145 to Miami and then took an American 757 to Panama City. I arrived in Panama that evening and took a taxi to the city. It took about 30 minutes to get there on the modern toll road. It was raining real hard with lightning and thunder. I love those kind of storms! It was about 9pm, so I just went to sleep. I stayed at the Hotel Roma Plaza for $35 a night and enjoyed the stay. It was conveniently located with a friendly staff and the rooms were ... read more

Middle East » Lebanon » Beirut January 16th 2005

I had wanted to visit Lebanon as far back as I could remember. I recall the images of destruction on television from the '70s and '80s and knew that Lebanon was more than that. I acquired a pass, through work, to anywhere in the Gulf Air network and decided to go to Beirut. My trip started out in Reno, Nevada, where I caught a Southwest 737 to San Diego, with a stop in Las Vegas. I had worked earlier that day, doing a Flight Attendant check ride from Reno to Phoenix to Los Angeles and back to Reno, so I was extremely tired and still in uniform. I met my friend in San Diego and we took the Jetblue red eye flight to New York-Kennedy. We then took the British Airways daylight flight to London-Heathrow and ... read more
