Wake up and get ready to leave for our tour of the Eagles Nest (where Hitler built a tea house on the top of a mountain to entertain and plan stuff). Eat emails and there is one from Avalon about our tour. Oh oh, low water and I have to call them straight away.... Finally get through, they have low water between their last cruise and ours (in Germany) so sounds like they might be late in re-positionimg the boat. They said we still had to meet them tomorrow for a 1400 bus transfer to Bratislava. Ok, will, see what happens then by the sound of it. Have to stay positive that they can get the boat to Bratislava. Off we go to meet the bus. Stop and get something to eat (breakfast not included with or ... read more

Chris is feeling much beer this morning after a sleep and the tablets. One of those things that happens when travelling. We leave for the train station and our trip back to Austria. Some food and work out our platform, then waiting and watching. Eventually move to the platform and our train arrives about 10 pminutes prior to departure. Our first class carriages are at the front. We get on and find a cabin of 6 seats and settle in. No one else loves us so we are happy in our space. trainndue to leave at 1018 (yes, the Germans are very efficient and prompt). Train leaves at 1018. We await the conductor to make sure we are on the right train and in fact allowed to stay in our exclusive cabin. No problems, conductor clicks ... read more

Wake up in our own time this morning. Chris is felling better after a good sleep so we head off to the hop on hop off bus, via a little diversion I found yesterday. Also, the glockenspiel clock is due to go off at 1100 so it all sort of fits into my grand plan. Walk down to the old gates I found yesterday and through some of the pretty streets. Stop for some bread items as a feed, no breakfast include now, so we are tight in feeds...... Nice croissant with ham and cheese for me and a pumpkin seed roll for Chris. On the way to the beer garden I found yesterday (and the maypole), we hear lots of men shouting, along with loud speakers. This is getting closer, and we get to a ... read more

Up reasonably early as we have a train to catch at 1030. Breakfast where we catch up with a few of the group and also John and Jane. More farewells. Eat and then go to Skype Jessica, Stephanie and the kids. Sitting at a desk sort of out of the way, we get to chat with Jessica, Pippa and Stephanie. Charlie is doing Lego with Chris and isn't interested. Eventually he comes in but has a sore ear following his swimming lesson. Not happy so we don't get much there. Pippa tells us she is doing dancing. Stephanie took som ballet slippers and leotards up for her. As we chat, the Barossa clan pass by saying their final farewell on the way to the coach and airport. We get them on Skype with the others as ... read more

Last full day of this tour. Breakfast isn't anything flash today, maybe they are taking the medieval bit too far. Had some fruit and toast and that was enough. We have to walk up to the bus. It is a beautiful crisp morning and the town is very quiet. We get a few more snaps from the top car park and then Alex arrives with the coach. We go down the road, then all of a sudden he swings in a u turn on this small country road. What he can't do with this coach hasn't been invented yet. We roll on down country roads today towards Vienna. Interesting little villages, glad I'm not in the front seat today, not much room when trucks swish past. John and Jane have this honour and already she has ... read more

What a day. A visit to the Budweiser brewery in Ceske Budejovice. This brewery is the original Budweiser. Evidently there were 2 Budweiser brothers, and one went to the USA and the other stayed in Czech Republic. They both built breweries and unfortunately the USA brother set the patents etc. first, so when the original one sends its beers overseas, it has to rename it because it doesn't have the patent in those countries. We wander around the site, learn about the brewing methods, the different strength beers (they have one that is 20% and only available in this town) and the huge amount of storage they have when brewing. We are taken into the cool rooms where the beer is finally made into the actual stuff that is then bottled. Huge vats in about 6c ... read more

Another local tour, first in the coach around the local streets with George, our local guide form last night. He is more subdued this morning, but we hang off his comments for his subtle jokes to kick in. Don't have to wait too long, as we drive around the more affluent area of Prague, he drops a few pearls of wisdom about his wife, mother in law and daughters. Thanks for thone George. We drive to the top of the castle hill and then walk around the castle and church area. Impressive place that has lots of history and is also being restored at the moment so lots of scaffolding and workers wandering around on the roof, no safety harnesses here..... Walk over and back to the coach where we are taken back to the old ... read more

Up and at em again. Bags out on time and down for breakfast Then on to the bus. Lynne gets on the bus and wisles us all well, giving an update on Peter's situation. No change from last night. we all wish her luck And then we go. Drive today is to Prague via Dresden. Rolling along when Kari Anne wanders down to see how we are all going. Oops, forgot to mention that our rotation has us in the naughty seats today, right down the back. Reckon these might be the best seats, 4 across instead of 5 and even more legroom..... Anyway, she asks if we have any questions, I say yes, she looks worried. I ask who won the trip arrival guesstimate contest. She is now happy as she had forgotten and I ... read more

Wake up to the news that Peter, man in scooter has had a bad fall during the night and is in hospital. Starts the day off with a real downer. No details yet, other than he has badly injured his back and may need an operation. Kari Anne stays back to help Lynne at the hospital, and Alex only knows that he has hurt his back somehow. Feel bad as their room was just beside ours and we didn't hear anything during the night. Hmm, the tour of Berlin goes on, quietly. Drive around the streets getting info on how Berlin was rebuilt after the war. Some amazing architecture been introduced here. Lots of people lining up to walk up the dome of the parliament or one of those buildings, guide advises us not to bother ... read more

Big day on the bus. We head off for Berlin this morning. Pretty much all day sitting. We do morning stop, lunch and afternoon stop in Poland so we still need zloty for any purchases. This is tough as I spent all mine last night when we were trying to arrange change, tips, etc. for the table. Have been offered an interest free loan from the bank of Wozniak (Barossa couple who withdrew too much in Poland). Start the trip with a game of guess what time we will arrive at our hotel. Everyone pours over maps, driving breaks, etc. All enter our times and then I realise, stupidly that google maps could have given me the driving time, then just add breaks - doh..... Never mind, day goes by relatively smoothly, only have to borrow ... read more
