This time I'm not talking about the crunchy critters I've been munchin' on but rather the beautiful butterflies I've been seeing on a daily basis mixed with some creepy crawlies and who knows what else. If anyone can ID any of these guys from their random vast knowledge of insects of Thailand it would be greatly appreciated. Having some issues finding some of these guys online and without a book this could take awhile. Greatly appreciated! ... read more

Alright guys so here is the scoop on my first trip to a National Park in Thailand. My friends and I decided to go big and hit up the number one national park in the area, so Saturday morning we all took off from our respected areas and headed to Khao Yai National Park. We were staying at a little place called the Greenhouse Guesthouse, and if you are ever in the area I totally recommend it. They pick you up from the bus stop, the rooms are clean and adorable, attached is a restaurant with AMAZING food and they offer tours as well. Throughout the day people from our group showed up and by the late afternoon the whole crew was there. Due to some delays a tour was not to be had on this ... read more

So as the title implies all I do is bpii tiao, but perhaps that doesn't imply much if you don't know what bpii tiao(ing) is. (Yes I just made a transliterated Thai word into a somewhat English word). Anyway bpii tiao(ing) is basically going on field trips and it seems as though every weekend that is exactly what I am doing. It has been a great experience and has brought me to several places around Thailand already. This weekend was spend in Lopburi, Central Thailand, 6 hours away from home. My sister and I headed out with Nung Heart and spent the next six hours on the bus. Now a magical thing happened on this bus, there was a movie playing, but not just any movie it was SHARKTAPUS. Yes aren't you impressed, I sure was. ... read more

I apologize for the month and a half long silence I haven't forgotten about you. I'd like to pretend I was just to busy to write, but the truth is I'm not. I spend my days working hard at the office which included stalking friends on facebook, chatting with the lovely ladies of my tesseban, and downloading movies. That is not to say I do nothing. There are days spend serving food to folks, walking here and there to listen to meetings I don't understand and of course studying Thai which I wish I could report has improved enough to have in depth conversations, but still my main topics of convo is food, weather, and my lack of boyfriend. Despite the boring days stuck in the office, I have been having a blast. After Songkran came ... read more

It has been three months on my adventure in Thailand and I really can't believe how the time really does fly by. I'm glad to report that I am not sick of Thailand in the slightest and instead have come to love it even more with every passing day. There are those days that I would just crave a sandwich or soup or CHEESE, cheese sandwich, cheese flavored snacks, basically anything that even slightly resembles cheese flavoring would be a delight but besides the food issue and the occasional (haha) mis communication my time here has been fantastic. I've been at my site for a month now and what I have come to learn is that don't ever expect well pretty much anything. My days have yet to be routine and I love that. On the ... read more

So its official, I am a Peace Corps Volunteer and I am at the site that I will call home for the next two years. I got to say I am both nervous and excited to be here. Currently I am just hanging out in my room relaxing, but it has been a non stop whirlwind of attempting to speak Thai and learning about my new home. For the next month I will be staying with my second host family. Nothing can replace my host family from Ayutteya, but these folks seem just as lovely. Meme, my sister, also works at the Tesseban with me and the two of us have been taking our bikes there daily. I can hear the laughs as we drive by and I can't tell who its directed at. Site Visit Alright folks so I know where I will be spending the next two years of my life and the winner is Jangwat Roi-Et. Yes go and google it right now and find out where I am going! I'm headed to Isan which is in the North East of Thailand and is exactly where I thought I would be going. I was exctied to hear that I would be headed to Isan, and even more excited to find out nearly half of our group was headed in that direction as well. I'll be moving up to Roi-Et in a few days, but I have had the opportunity to visit it so this is what I learned. 1.) I've spent months learning Thai only to go to an area that speaks Isan. It's alright though ... read more

Wildlife of Ayutthaya Although I have yet to go out an truely bird or herp around the area I have seen plenty of creatures just walking around or biking to and from school. The birds here have been fantastic. Every day I seem to see a new species, but without a bird book I've been very limited in my identification of many of the species. Don't worry a book is on its way and I've been lucky enough to borrow a book from one of my fellow Peace Corps Volunteers. Here is a quick list of the birds I have been able to ID: Rock Pigeon Red Collard Dove Peaceful Pigeon Black Drongo Pied Fantail White Vented Myna Asian Openbill - these guys are all over the place at the moment but they'll be leaving ... read more

Hey everyone. So it has been an entire month that I have been in Thailand. I can't believe it, it seems that just a little bit ago I was longingly awaiting just to be accepted and now here I am! Some days I wake up in the middle of the night due to the dogs barking or the roosters going crazy, I stretch out on my cot on the floor which is well as hard as the floor and think wow I'm really here. Then I wake up grab myself some instant coffee and eat some random meat that I have no idea what it is, hope on my bike with my awesome neon green helment and bike off to school. At any one of these periods I can think WTF am I doing here, but ... read more
