Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice May 15th 2007

Sophomore year I signed up for a May term in Europe and what an experience it was! I spent almost three weeks traveling to four different countries and being a total tourist, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. My professor took us around going to many museums, churches and a handful of other extremely interesting places. We prepared ourselves for a few months and then in May it was time to head out. From New Jersey the flight was nearly seven hours long and not very enjoyable, but besides that the trip is certainly worth it. We landed in Frankfurt and then took another hour long flight to Venice. Since there are no streets in Venice, the Grand Canal takes you throughout the city. It is the major water traffic corridor in the city ... read more

My second trip to the Dominican Republic lead me Puerto Cana. The all inclusive hotel, Iberostar, is one I would certainly recommend! The hotel is right on the beach and is actually three hotels combined, Iberostar Punta Cana, Dominicana, and Bravado. The three hotels share a beach and you can dine at any of the restaurants. For our five day trip we were able to pick two special restaurants. We picked a steak house and a Mexican restaurant, but if those aren’t your preference you can choose from several others. ( I preferred the buffet over any of the restaurants, the buffet had so much amazing food.) The Iberostar is really a fantastic resort. Besides for all the choices in food (and beverages) there are so many choices in activities. There were tennis courts, massage areas, ... read more

I attended a Christian school from kindergarten to senior year. The school had both pros and cons, but the biggest pro to me was that my senior class trip was going to be an amazing opportunity to travel down to the Dominican Republic on a missions trip. Now, a missions trip may put some of you off, but it is truely one of the most amazing experiences ever. I myself am not the most religious of people but going down to another country to help out is really quite fantastic. My trip lead me to the village of La Vega. The plane landed in Santiago, the capital of the DR and from there a missionary brought us to the small village an hour away. The streets we were on, I don’t believe it had a name, ... read more

Right before senior year of high school my family decided to take a vacation in paradise. We flew on down to Grand Cayman and stayed at the Hyatt Villa which was absolutely gorgeous, not to mention that it was right by a pool and just a short walk to the beach and the backyard being a golf course. A walk to the beach proved to me that the ocean really is as turquoise as it is in pictures and that isn't photo editing at its best. Snorkeling is a must at any Caribbean island and Cayman is one of the best. Some may not realize how easy it really is. All you have to do is jump into the ocean and head on out. Fish of every color will swim by you and the closer you ... read more

North America » Canada » Nova Scotia » Halifax July 23rd 2000

My first international adventure wasn’t much of an adventure rather than a relaxing cruise spent on a Carnival ship. My family and I took a five day cruise to the modern port city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The cruise itself was a blast. There were several pools and hot tubes, great food, and something to keep everyone entertained including comedy shows. Heading out of our port in New York City I was extremely excited for this Canadian adventure. As a young traveler and without much knowledge of Nova Scotia, I envisioned a lush forest expanding as far as my eyes could see, filled with a variety of wildlife, especially moose (for some reason I have a huge obsession with moose). I was rather shocked, and slightly disappointed to see that Halifax was a very modern city. ... read more
