After an amazing, but very intense month in Bangalore, Kerala has been a breath of fresh air. On arriving to Varkala, I felt at peace. Although i have been mostly beaching it, as town is an Auto away and in this heat the furthest anyone can walk is to the sea, I can defiantly see a big difference in the people here. When i first arrived the site of a woman in a strap top, shocked me! I stayed covered up until the forth day, when i popped out in short shorts and a strappy. Only once, as shorts are too hot, the only thing cool enough to wear is trousers. Its strange as in London i never wear trousers that here i wear them everyday. On the 24th i went to an Elephant Festival in ... read more

After a 12hour bus journey... feet on our knee's, we finally arrived in Emnakulum... Shook the pins and needels out of my feet and found an Auto, 150ruppees later... Princess St Fort Cochin... Finding somewhere to stay was a little diffrent, all hotels on that street expensive and full!! A man approached us on his bike asking if we were looking for somewhere to stay, he seemed kind and harmless so we followed him two streets away to a beautiful homestay! Living room, courtyard, a small outside living area and a double bed with a bathroom a bargin at 400ruppees! A stroll around the town, i brought a handmade leather book, we dicovered the wonders of Chineese fishing nets and were almost riled in ourselfs by the stalls of fresh fish By 7 i was knocked ... read more

Success shone from Lokish on Thursday as i entered to a bubbly, very happy young boy. Jokely and playfully he explained that he was LEAVING! I had seen his mum outside that morning and she had shown me her youngest, a little boy born on 1st of December. The last court date is pushing though and he should be out within three days. After a month, entail shock, forceful change, silent exception a roller coaster of emotions which have now been rounded off with hope and happiness! I feel as though i have had a full experience, Veena (An American woman who works for Peacechild full time) says how far too often interns who only come for a month don't receive the full experience because success story's are few and far between. Not being able to ... read more

Its the final count down and as i reflect on my time in Bangalore i start to dream of the rest of India... In my first week everything was very, exciting, overwhelming and a little scary! During my time spent at the schools i have seen a kind of revolution. Although the children in the schools have hardly anything conpeared to England, they are so egar to learn and better themsleves. With one pencil and one pen these children are striving to do there best, at every obsical there finding new ways to defeat it! Although i feel India is a long way from the abolishment of class, or the social hyirque, i can see these village children dreaming of becoming Doctors and Lawyers. Their drive and determination inspires me. Such simple lessons on hygiene and ... read more

Its been over a week since i last wrote, have been very busy and sleepy. So... on Tuesday the 19th i went to the Children's home for the first time, its an hour and a half on two different buses... But because we were going to bathe the boys that morning Manju (the man who picked me up from the airport) took James, Veena and I in the jeep. When we arrived i looked up at this tall, cold building. It felt like a prison. As we approached the building i was unsure of how i would be received! And also if the all the stories i'd heard about the homes were true and if so how would i cope...? After packing our bags into a locked cuboard i served the area... A large courtyard with ... read more

After a very tearful goodbye at the airport, customs and boarding is a bit of a blur... My flight was delayed by about 30mins I somehow managed to get myself 3seats, which was such a bonus, and good for others as no one wants to sit next to a blabbing mess!! As i ascended into the air fear overtook me ... Then curry arrived and everything seemed smiley.. For a while. I became filled with thought as i snacked on Masla Dosa while flying over Baghdad... contemplating the world below me and how far from reality i have lived in sheltered England When i finally arrived in Mumbai, jet lag and heat filled my body. What hassle it was to find my connecting flight, you would think the need for signs would be reconisgise globally but ... read more
