Crossing the border from Mexico to Guatemala was an experience! The plan on arriving in San Cristobal was book a bus to the border and work it out from there. After the ease of traveling around Mexico I guess I didn't figure that the border town in Guatemala wouldn't have a ticket office or information at the bus station, luckily a chicken bus was about to leave when we arrived, without a clear destination or even a clear understanding of the destination of the bus we embarked on a journey that would cover 160km in 6hrs on two buses to arrive at 10pm at a bus 'station' (i.e just a bunch of buses parked just outside town) as we disembarked the bus one of the four schechy men turned the overhead lights off, we asked ... read more

North America May 26th 2015

Realising the direct route had started at 7am that morning and it was taking the same two hour bumpy boat journey back to Chetamal we had two options, stay another night or find another route. After drinking our body weight in rum punch the pervious afternoon and passing out at 6pm we felt pretty ready for a random adventure, so after packing we wandered to the jetty to get a boat to Belize City, with a destination in mind but a path yet to be forged. After an expensive few days we decided to walk the 15 minutes though Belize City to the bus station, nearly everyone we had met had warned us that Belize City was dangerous and to be careful, I stayed aware and observanted but it just seemed like a busilying beach front ... read more

Daniela our little Mexican friend

When in Mexico, you do as the Mexican's do, that's tequila shots, when in Belize do as the Beliazian's do, that's beer thirty and rum o'clock. After a short taxi ride from our lake paradise we arrived in Chetemal, Mexico's border town with Belize, we brought a very expensive ferry ticket over to Caye Caulker 65US, then hung around as you do at borders joining different queues and answering funny questions. Luckily we had emails with our flight break down showing Mexican taxes paid, many people who book though and agent don't have this and then have to pay £15 to exit Mexico, top tip keep that breakdown safe! The crossing to San Pedro is two hours of probably the bumpiest boat journey I have ever been on, it's a small boat and we were riding ... read more

Today I cried, in a cafe, at a children's book, I'll explain but yes it was as crazy as it sounds; we finally found a wonderful organic cafe it's in Bacalar the owners are just so kind and gentle and the food is amazing. They sell a few products, local oils, creams, tshirts and children's poetry books written by a local author. Today I flicked though the pages, smiling at the beautiful illustrations, then bam it hit me, buy this book for Nye, I could read it to him once I learn Spanish, or I could read it to my children, half English and half Spanish, a tear rolled down my cheek... "Not all those who wander are lost" After around 15 days Kate has just waved us a final goodbye at Tulum bus station, she flys home to London tomorrow & we're on our way south, first stop Bacalar. Although we've been away for over two weeks it somehow feels like this is where it begins. Our second class non AC bus is way more what I'm used to, I can't help thinking about Tessa's story, the fear on the bus drivers face. A lot of travellers are discussing the tension in Mexico at the moment. It's crazy but I feel safe, the gangs don't want to damage tourism so it sort of makes us safe. I sometimes can't believe how lucky I am to have been born in England, I mean we have opportunity, education, jobs ... read more

“But if you do not find an intelligent companion, a wise and well-behaved person going the same way as yourself, then go on your way alone, like a king abandoning a conquered kingdom, or like a great elephant in the deep forest– The Buddha.” About 4am April 30th I woke up on the bottom bunk, in my blue silk sleep sack, that's when it hit me, I had arrived. The last few weeks have been a bit of a blur, leaving my job, moving home, seeing friends, it's all kind of been building up to that moment at 4am, the sense that a new beginning was happening, here I am, in a 6 bed dorm in Cancun. The journey was long but comfortable, as I people watched on the flight over I was judging these 20 ... read more

I woke up on my 25th birthday and cried, hard wet tears. I cried because I miss him, I cried because I’m lost, and I cried because my heart and soul are in pain. I woke up on the 2nd of January and after promising myself after the 31st morning cry then the afternoon cry I would not cry again, I cried, because a new year does not heal pain. Only you can heal pain. I began to search for something, I need to make a change, work is suffocating me and love is breaking my world in two… what I found was a ticket to Mexico, could I finally do the central America trip I’d always wanted to? After returning from my last trip, I knew there were many places I still wanted to ... read more

Alleppy, I’ve found and lost my heart here, I’ve experienced extreme pleasure and extreme pain, yet unlike returning to paradice which I learnt a few years ago was not a good idea, returning home is. Sujit was waiting at the train station to collect us and take us to Mandala, they had kept aside my favourite room for me, the bamboo hut, that first night, I had a beer on the beautiful lonely beach and slept on the comphyest mattress i'd experienced in India. Absolute bliss. So I first rocked up here in 2010 when a really kind smiling boy approached Daniela and I at the train station, I then returned a few days later with Matthias, then after my first stay in the Ashram I took Fiona and her 3 American girlfriends, I then met ... read more

13th jan 2013 It's such an amazing feeling. To be excited. To be really looking forward to the year ahead, to your life ahead. This is probably the only time I've been away and felt happy that I was going home, I mean I have 2 more weeks the time in the ashram, something I've been looking forward to since I last visited in 2010 but after that I will be back in London. Back to start my new full time contacted job, to start looking for my own place, to find a good salsa and yoga class, to appreciate the insane opportunities London has to offer. Since I last wrote I've been distressing! I woke up on New Year's Eve to a lovely morning birthday breakfast from Tamzin Demant! :) I then surreally went to ... read more

Once I had arrived again and spent a day alone in the office, It began to sink in how much has happen the past 4 years... Peace Child was my first step into the world alone, my first adventure, the time when I first realised what was possible. I think sometimes in England we lose what is possible and just do what is expected. I'm not sure if by escaping every January, I am running away, recharging my battery’s or discovering something new, I guess its a mixture of all three. Sometimes I wonder what it all means, deep I know but with the Ego and the voice inside our heads it so difficult to just be, be present be in the moment, I think sometimes when I’m lost in my thoughts, tight chested and anxious ... read more
