Geo: 33.7664, -118.192We slept in (for me until 7am and for Naomi until 10:30 am). Got some laundry done and then we headed out to Long Beach to do some errands. After I got a TB test for school done at the doctors office, we went to eat at one of my favorite pizza places, Big E Pizza. We both had the pizza sandwiches and shared a salad. The off to next door to my nail salon. I paid for Naomi to have a manicure and pedicure while I had the works. When we finished 2 hours later, I drove us to Huntington Beach for some Dairy Queen ice cream. We then headed home where Naomi made from scratch bread and a spinach and artichoke dip! Yum! We spent the rest of the night working on ... read more

Geo: 33.8886, -118.219We made good time traveling back to my house. We actually got to travel on the 405 South freeway in the location that was closed for 2 days due to the removal of an overcrossing bridge near the Getty Center. The freeway wasnt supposed to open until Monday morning, but they finished early. We were on the freeway about 30 minutes after it opened. It had very little traffic. We arrived at my place about 1 p.m. The trip spedometer on the car read 3,774 miles! We relaxed and unpacked. Later Naomi and I went to Target to get her some pants for her costume and I got an air mattress and some groceries. We had frozen pizza for dinner and then off to bed.... read more

Geo: 37.6769, -122.459We took a little detour back to Colma since it was dusk and the fog was thicker. We got lucky when I noticed one of the cemeteries still had its gate open. We quickly cruised it and then went across the street to another one. The rent-a-cop stopped us as we went up the drive. I asked if we could spend 5 minutes so that Naomi could finish a photography project. The young kid let us. Naomi was so excited. We then went to check on some of the other cemeteries. We got into one of the larger ones. We stayed up in there until it was too dark for pictures. We stopped also along one of the streets so that she could take more shots of the neighborhood at night. Finally, we drove ... read more

Geo: 37.7792, -122.42Once again the morning was very foggy and cool. We headed into the city and located the City Sight Seeing Company pick up location near Fisherman's Wharf. We parked the car in a parking structure and bought tickets for the downtown tour. We boarded the double decker bus and took the 1 hour 20 minute tour. When we got to see everything, we stayed on and rode the tour again to get to the Yerba Buena museum area. We hopped off the tour bus and walked a block to visit the Cartoon Art Museum. Interesting place thats about various kinds of cartoon work. It was featuring art work from the Archie Comics and Green Lantern. We then headed back to the tour stop and got back on the tour bus. We then rode it ... read more

Geo: 37.6244, -122.414As we headed back into SF, we tried to fine a pizza place on the way back to San Bruno. We checked a couple of streets and most of the restuarants were of Asian faire. (Ick for me and Yum for Naomi!). Then Naomi say a store that had something of interest. So after looking around inside the store, I bought her a pair of cartoon slippers based on some Japanese cartoon. We then headed to San Bruno to look at a recommended pizza place. After finding the pizza place, Toto's, we parked and ordered a large pizza, salad, and cheesy garlic bread ($31). Unfortunately, Naomi soon lost her appetite due to learning from her father, Dan, that she may have to re-enroll for her winter classes for college. We left with the pizza ... read more

Geo: 37.896, -122.58After an hour trip through San Francisco, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, and a very very winding road, we arrived at Muir Woods National Monument. On Jan. 9, 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt signed legislation establishing Muir Woods National Monument. William and Elizabeth Kent had donated the woods to save the trees, and asked that it be named after John Muir. We had a very nice liesurely walk for about an hour or so. We bought some trinkets in the gift shop and fed some bagel to a chipmunk before heading back to San Bruno to eat and then catch the Harry Potter movie.... read more

Geo: 37.6769, -122.459After sleeping in until 7:30 a.m. we grabbed some breakfast that was served on our floor just a few rooms down from our room. After checking the weather, (extremely foggy and cold), we then headed for Colma's city hall. After speaking with one of the clerks, Laura Allen, the city manager came out and greeted us. After I introduced myself and Naomi, I let the two of them chit chat and discuss the finer points of Colma. Naomi's book is set in Colma, which is a necropolis (a town set aside specifically to bury people) for San Francisco. Ms. Allen showed old photographs that lined her wall in her office, the chamber room, and then took us across the street to the police station. Once there, she took us behind a locked door to ... read more

Geo: 37.6244, -122.414After driving for 1 1/2 hours but at a good speed with minimal traffic jams, we crossed through Berkley, Oakland, and San Francisco to get to San Bruno. The hotel is at the edge of an old downtown distric of San Bruno. The area around the place is a little run down, but the hotel itself ois very clean and safe. Even though we face the street, we hear no noise. After settling in on the the 2nd floor, I went across the street to the liquor store to get Naomi some tea and me some orange juice. The older Hindu man behind the counter chatted with me a bit. Then I met a family from Potland in the hotel lobby while grabbing all the brochures on places to see in SF. Naomi worked ... read more

Geo: 38.579, -121.491After getting a little turned around in Sacramento, we finally found Sutter's Fort. We paid the $6 admission fee, and took the self guided tour. Then we went to see the California Indian Museum on the same site. No pictures were allowed in the Indian museum. Then, we headed to eat at Olive Garden since I had some gift cards for that place. While waiting for our meal, I tried to get rooms for us in the southern part of San Francisco. My God! I thought the Super 8 in Gardiner was expensive. Most of the hotels I called (Travelodge, Super 8, Howard Johnson) all wanted $150-$180 per night! So after much frustration (which ruined my appetite for the chicken alfredo I had ordered), I was able to get a room with 2 queen ... read more

Geo: 38.579, -121.491After getting up at 6:00 a.m., we headed out for the long 5 1/2 hours trip across Nevada. How I hate desert driving. One frickin' rock after another! I got so bored along the way, that I checked my email and played some solitaire on my iphone. And yes, I kept my eyes on the road. Once we got into Winnemucca (I stayed there last year), we stopped for some materials for Naomi's costume at the local Walmart. Then back on the road. When we finally got past Reno, the landscape became much better. There was so much snow still on the mountains and it got very cool outside. ... read more
