July 10 Monday Tossed and turned all night due to the warmth of my room. My little USB port fan it's just not working. I called at 5:30 in the morning down to front desk to see if someone could come up and take a look at it. And that's just what he did, he looked at it and said it's normal. And they wouldn't change my room either. So I have got to find a fan. Breakfast was buffet with a huge amount of selections. But then again I'm so used of my American meals so I didn't eat too much again. They did have some sort of flaky pastry cheese cake that I liked a lot. We went past a few former homes of wealthy people from before Communist rule. Now they are office ... read more

July 9 Sunday Woke up at 5 AM so I decided to get some work done before heading down to breakfast. We left the hotel at 8 o'clock in the morning. The tour director talked about the Hungarian language and alphabet, which originally was not using Latin script. He passed around a copy of the original Hungarian script which I thought was similar to ancient script of other countries. He even stated that the ancient Hungarian script was found in some places in North America. As we drove through the Austrian countryside heading toward the Bulgarian border, how many farms growing crops of wheat, corn, and sunflower. The wheat crop was in the process of being harvested. About an hour and a half along the highway we passed a military caravan of vehicles. The last one ... read more

July 8 Saturday Another morning in Europe. Went down to have breakfast right before we left for the parliament building. We can see the parliament building from our hotel so it was a very short trip. We are able to get the first tour of the morning. We didn't use our local tour guide but instead used a tour guide from the actual parliament building. He was very good-looking and even had a scar going down the side of his left eye. Reminds me of the romance novels heroes I used to read as a kid. The building was pretty impressive. The grand staircase was really spectacular. We were allowed to take photographs throughout the whole building except for where the crown is located. Just as we were about to leave the crown area, we were ... read more

July 7 Friday I was able to get up earlier and be at breakfast right when they open. We boarded the bus at 8 o'clock to head to Budapest Hungary. We crossed the border about 30 minutes into our trip. You could still see the old Communist border crossing buildings now covered up in the weeds. Even though Austria and Hungary are part of the European Union, which allows open border crossings, sometimes there are still border checks. We had our lunch break of 1 1/2 hours in Gyor, Hungary. Old Gyor was very nice. Lots of small shops and restaurants. Unfortunately I couldn't find any clothes for my size nor did I want any heavy meals for lunch since it was 80° already. So I just had a gelato and water. As we travel to ... read more

Europe » Austria » Vienna July 6th 2017

So it has been exactly one week since we started our tour. I have been to England, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Austria. So far it has been a great trip. The different cities we stopped and have been wonderful, the food has been great, the atmosphere has been perfect. So today after a wonderful breakfast that would've cost me €38 on my own at the Hilton Vienna, we headed to the Schonbrunn Palace. Schönbrunn Palace is a former imperial summer residence located in Vienna, Austria. The 1,441-room Baroque palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural, and historical monuments in the country. Since the mid-1950s it has been a major tourist attraction. The history of the palace and its vast gardens spans over 300 years, reflecting the changing tastes, interests, and aspirations ... read more

After a very restful night sleep I was able to get up and do some more packing. In this hotel bathroom they had a bidet next to the toilet. The bidet uses a stream of water in a low washbasin that to clean your genitals and anal area after using the toilet. I tried it. It's not unpleasant just different. After playing around with the bidet, I went down for breakfast and then we were off to Vienna. As we travel through Italy toward the Austrian border we passed many fields of sunflowers. Also, Ann and I started noticing that some of the grove of trees were perfectly lined up as if they were planted. Some of the tree crops had old trees next to middle-age trees next to young trees, all perfectly aligned in rows ... read more

uly 4. Murano, Venice, and Burano So I forgot to set my alarm clock this morning. So luckily we get a phone call wake up call but it didn't leave me much time to get ready for breakfast and then to the bus. We headed out to a part of Venice called Isola Della Giidecca and went to see a Murano glassblowing demonstration. I've been to some before but those lasted a good 20 to 30 minutes. This one was no more than five to ten minutes before they took us to the show room area to have sit down and look at sets that we could buy at a discounted rate. The show room itself was gigantic with lots of overpriced items. I found a small blue leaf about the size of a half-dollar and ... read more

Europe » Austria » Tyrol July 3rd 2017

After a good nights sleep and waking up at 7:15, I was able to grab breakfast before heading out. The breakfast was okay. The scrambled eggs were a little wet for my taste. I tried the bacon which looked different. It was VERY salty. The little sausages weren’t very tasty. So I ate lightly. I left to go to Ulla Popken, the plus size clothing store. I did stop on the way at a bakery to see if I could find a cake called Socher torte. They didn’t have it. I got to Ulla Popken a little early, but after they opened the doors I got right down to shopping. Their prices were a little higher than in America. I found 2 tops and 1 top/capri set (I think it’s pajamas, but I really liked the ... read more

Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Munich July 2nd 2017

Sunday morning, we left at 8 after a nice buffet breakfast. We headed through Germany to reach Munich for a short stop. It rained all the way there. We did get some fog, but it made the green countryside really beautiful. One of the striking things I saw was a large parking structure built over the highway for the airport near Stuttgart. Good idea for saving space. I have noticed in Germany that their are more American stores and services. We’ve passed Shell Gas Stations, Burger Kings, McDonald’s, Starbucks, and even a John Deere factory and showroom. So far every shop I’ve been in they have been able to speak English, very well at times. Munich, Bavaria’s capital, is home to centuries-old buildings and numerous museums. The city is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and ... read more

Europe » Germany » Rhineland-Palatinate » Boppard July 1st 2017

Saturday morning, we had to be on the bus at 8, so breakfast was at 7, but I was up and ready by 6:30. So I ate early and then sat in the lobby to work on my blog. They wifi on the bus was finally working. However, as we got away from the city, it was sporadic. As we drove along the interstate highways, I noticed a lack of billboards and advertisement like we have in America. Even the exit signs only indicate food (crossed spoon and fork) and lodging (a bed). No company names. As we crossed into Germany, there is no large sign to indicate that you are crossing into another country. A couple of small signs indicated that you were now in Germany. We traveled along the Autobahn for a while. According ... read more
