Man did I sleep well. Its 7:30 and I’m up rolling out of bed and heading for the bathroom. Everyone’s asleep and I’m going to get up shower and have a nice quite breakfast. Woo, Hoo I love these Germany baths there the size of a phone both for midgets. I’m finishing my shower when the door flies open; Hey I’m in here, as Heady walks into the bathroom. She screams, I’m hollering STOP!!!!!!!. Well my quite morning just went south. I’m out of the bath and downstairs trying to not make eye contact with either Bill or Hedi. The Inn Keeper meets at the bottom of the steps asking in his broken English “VIS EWERYSHING OK”? I respond Ya Ya Ya…. As I make my way to the breakfast table he’s following me “VHATS DER ... read more

Aren’t we booked on the 7:30 flight, yes but I want to try for the 6:30 because it has more seats. I thought the 7:30 had enough seats did something change. No I just want to get to Atlanta. So I rolled out of bed and looked at the clock, its 4:30 AM. So it begins Kirsten and I are heading to Germany, Bill and Hedi are already there and waiting for us to pick them up in Wangan. I know this last update is late, but to my defense every time I start working on it I just choke up and can’t finish. I just didn’t want it to end. Lori wakes up before me and wakes me up. Get up and let’s get going, I want to get to the airport before anyone else does. You know first come first serve, right! Oh yeah… I said, we’ll get to the gate and wait until they call our names. I immediately run for the bathroom to avoid any question about if we’re going to get on the plane. I finished shaving and getting my stuff together; I’m heading out the door and yelled I’ll be down stairs having breakfast. Lori shows up in about 20 minutes, I had just finished checking the counts on ... read more

I woke up early, logged on and checked the seat counts; so far, things are looking pretty good. I cleaned up and headed down stairs, then checked my e-mail. Of all the messages I received, I enjoyed hearing from Kirsten the most. She and everyone were winding down their trip at the beach house at Anna Maria Island and were ready for me to come home. I think she’s missing me. I’m definitely missing her. Lori came down and said, “Hey pops, let me buy you breakfast.” That’s a tough offer to refuse; moments later, we’re sitting inside the McDonald’s next door, enjoying our Egg McMuffins. They tasted great, just like the ones I shared with momma in Radcliff. After breakfast, we walked over to the Bahnhof and found the information office, where we asked the ... read more

We woke up, got ready and checked out of the hotel. We headed back to the downtown area. Lori was hoping shops might be open. We found a café and had a light breakfast because we were still stuffed from last night. Most shops were not open so Lori and I walked around just window shopping. When we went by the cathedral, mass was going. We went in and I sat down and enjoyed listening to the service and the choir. Their singing was unbelievable angelic. After the service we walked back to the car and took off for Riquewihr. This is a little town close to Colmar that Kirsten and I visited. Kirsten recommended I take Lori here. Well Kirsten was correct, Lori loved it. All the cute little shops were open so after walking ... read more

Europe » France » Burgundy » Dijon August 1st 2009

We woke up early; Lori and I have perfected the bathroom schedule. I’m first while Lori is still waking up. Once I’m out she’s in. I finish dressing then head down stairs with my stuff, load it into the car and go have breakfast. In about 30-45 minutes Lori shows up and has breakfast. I’ve finished looking at the maps and books; Lori asks where we going today Pops? And I tell her. It’s not the fastest but it works. So today we are going to visit Dijon, you know the place that makes mustard. We start with the cathedral, then the crypt and wrap it up with finding the owl. If we rub it we’ll get good luck. Lori agrees and we’re off. We park in the same area as last night and start walking ... read more

Today was set to be a long driving day. We first got up from the cool hotel and had breakfast, it wasn’t the best we’ve had but it was pretty good. We loaded up and headed into Orleans, the main attraction for Orleans was their cathedral. We found it, and walked through the cathedral. Lori is starting to think the same guy built all the cathedrals in Europe. Dad, they all look the same, yeah but it’s fun to walk through them and light a candle for someone you love. Once we took some pictures, lighted candles and prayed for everyone we love we headed toward Vezelay. To gain some time, Lori asked if we could get on the Auto Strata. Yeah I should have known better when she asked, what’s the speed limit? Well in ... read more

We started our day by visiting Leonard De Vinci’s house. The house located in Amboise, is where he passed away. The house has been turned into a museum; IBM funds the house and also created models of all of his inventions from his drawings. From Amboise we headed toward Chateau De Chenonceau. Lori read all about this chateau and recalls it from her French classes at UCF. It was a short drive, we were there in 15-20 minutes. Lori was surprised it was such a short drive. I told her Francis I didn’t want to be too far from Amboise because this is where his mistress lived. It’s always good to be King. We thought we’d eat lunch but it was early and we decided to head on over to France’s hunting lodge Chateau de Chambord. ... read more

We left Paris; drove around the Arch of Triumph, Lori says she was living the movie European Vacation. We finally made it to the other side and continued up the road toward Versailles along with 20 plus other tour buses. Once we arrived at the Versailles Chateau we parked and walked up to the chateau, as we came through the gate Lori was ready. She asked where the entrance is, and then I pointed to the end of the line. WHAT that’s the line, you remember I told you there might be a long line. Long line that’s massive, I’m not waiting in that line can we just walk around. Yes we can, follow me. From Versailles we drove to Chartres to visit their Cathedral. This cathedral is greatest Gothic cathedral in Europe. As we were ... read more
