Geo: 43.6602, -79.4164Today was CN tower day! However, the walk down there was a very misty one, because of which I was very doubtful of us being able to see much from the top! As we got closer, the humid mist lifted slightly so you could see the spinnaker of the tower! Up we went, through various safety scanners etc and into the lift to the top. The elevatorhad a glass floor, so when you are climbing at 15mph it is quite disconcerting to look down. The view from the top was incredible, impossible to describe in words. There was also a glass floor which some people (including Nath and Nunny) were terrified of! I however jumped up and down on it! No problem! After a million photos, we decided to have a cuppa with a ... read more

Geo: 43.6602, -79.4164As per usual before an adventure, a goods night sleep was not to be had and I was well awake before the alarm tootled its merry tune at 7am. Breakfast was a buffet, with sooooo much on offer it was hard to decide. A healthy option I attempted to persuade myself to pick up, and that I did, a bowl full of melon and pineapple.... However there was a ginormous table full of breads and pastries!! Now those of you that know me well, also know full well that this could not be ignored! Cases packed and locked, out taxi arrived on time (which after our luck in Iceland was a huge relief!!) and off to Gatwick south we ventured! As we had checked in on line it was just a case of dumping ... read more

Geo: 51.1354, -0.12709We made it down to our Gatwick hotel (with parking for our Canadian adventure) in remarkably good time, considering the A11 and M25 were involved!! The hotel is HUGE! It's like a rabbit warren... Def no wine for dinner tonight as I will never find our room again!! Dinner consisted of an omelette for James and a steak sandwich for me! However, after waiting for them to find a cow to make my sandwich, 30 mins after ordering, the omelette came out wrong. A very apologetic waiter offered a free round of drinks, which with southern prices were I presume more than the omelette itself! Both meals were scrumptious though!! Whist James settled up, I went on a hunt to find some more milk as our ration in our room was exhausted within the ... read more

Geo: 64.147, -21.9395After our sit, I wanted to get some Xmas decs from a shop we had seen on Sunday evening before dinner so I knew what I could spend!! The shop was spectacular, I def could have spent a fortune, but restrained myself to abt £12!!! We found ourself in a restaurant called the 'fish company'. Posh nosh and plenty of it. We had complementary bread with basil butter and beetroot salt and to our surprise complementary appetisers of salmon and roe. Scrummy!!! For main I had Arctic char with lots of yummy accompaniments and James had lamb various ways. For pudding we shared a white choc cake with caramel, buttermilk icecream and red berry sauce. One of the best puddings I've ever had! We meandered back to the hotel via the real ale pub ... read more

Geo: 64.145, -21.936Back in Reykjavik after a bumpy descent into the domestic airport!! The taxi driver was not as nice as the first one and liked to honk his horn! But we made it! In the older bit of the hotel this time, lovely room with still a view of the square. Hot choc a cookies and a sit!!!... read more

Geo: 65.6793, -18.0921Still in Akureyri .... Our 9am flight out has been pushed back until 3pm so we are not making it back to England today. Luckily the night in the posh hotel in Reykjavik that we should have had last night has been pushed back to tonight and the flight home changed to 8.30am tomorrow. Fingers crossed this all works out otherwise its going to start costing!! Keep telling ourselves we saw the northern lights and are drinking more hot choc in our little cafe!!... read more

Geo: 65.6838, -18.0909It seems snow can even shut this place down too!! The streets are dead and we seemed to be the only crazy ones to venture out for food! Tonight was supposed to be our posh meal in Reykjavik so instead we ventured to one of the posher restaurants here.... Dressed in thermals and jeans!!! It was on the 5th floor, boasting some of the best views in the town.... Not tonight, we could barely see across the car park. To add insult to injury, half of the things on the menu had not made it through the storm, but we tried arctic goose, local langoustines, article char, salted cod, Icelandic lamb and skyr (a yoghurt like pudding!) with birch and apple sorbet! It was scrummy and very luxurious, but as I said not much ... read more

Geo: 65.687, -18.0894So with the weather being as clear as anything last night, we were surprised to look out of the window at breakfast and see a blizzard! Brilliant! Our little plane back to Reykjavik and our posh hotel are not happening today!!Numerous phone calls to airlines and travel agents we are def here for the night! Hopefully they will fly out in the morning..... Fingers crossed around the world please!!! No point crying over spilt milk, so we ventured out into town so I could buy a badge for my bag and an Icelandic wool headscarf.... It was WINDY!! the snow coming at you from every direction! We were also silly enough to go up to the church to see what we could see.... Not a lot! So back to the coffee shop from Monday ... read more

Geo: 65.7344, -18.1907The northern lights are definitely not of this world! So magical and ethereal. Mother Nature has done a damn good jobThere was a coach tonight, I guess as everyone that went last night was on it too. It was full of Americans... This did not please a tired James, ESP the lady popping gum right behind us!! Our guide found the lights though. Very whispy to start with but they sure did put on a show! After a few photos and Chinese wandering infront of your camera we just stood a watached them dance! So amazingAll the photos are photos of our camera display as this picked up nothing!!!... read more

Geo: 65.6814, -18.0902WE SAW SOME.... I will get to that at the end of the day!!!The storm last night was indeed howling, stupid wind speeds with snow involved to. I was glad to be indoors, however with that and James snoring, sleep was slow in arriving. And the alarm way too early to be going off, but with our game of thrones tour today and a retry of our northern lights tonight we needed to get going. Breakfast was a buffet, similar to Reykjavik but not quite as grand. The 15 Japanese people in the restaurant along with 3 Europeans hawking too!! Eurgh!! We filled our boots though and went to get ready. When we emerged, our guide, Alexandra was awaiting us in the reception. She was a Germanic lady, quite rotund with very short hair! The ... read more
