As per usual before an adventure, a goods night sleep was not to be had and I was well awake before the alarm tootled its merry tune at 7am. Breakfast was a buffet, with sooooo much on offer it was hard to decide. A healthy option I attempted to persuade myself to pick up, and that I did, a bowl full of melon and pineapple.... However there was a ginormous table full of breads and pastries!! Now those of you that know me well, also know full well that this could not be ignored!
Cases packed and locked, out taxi arrived on time (which after our luck in Iceland was a huge relief!!) and off to Gatwick south we ventured!
As we had checked in on line it was just a case of dumping the bags, or so we thought.... Apparently as mine was my travelling rucksack it had to go through the oversized channels so another maze conquered to find that and then through security. I obviously look like a dodgy person as my bag was pulled out, swabbed and my kindle inspected as though it was a 'device'. The lady was a grumpy moo too!
Once they
had decided I was not going to blow up the plane we found the boys in the pub of course!! I left James there to his ale whist I went shopping!!! I managed to resist the cath kidston egg cups and the giant bars of toblerone, but Lancôme got me 😊
There was a lot of people on the flight, so boarding took a while! Greeted by a slightly rotund, bespectacled Canadian chap with a sweet smile and a camp voice we took our seat for the 8hr long haul!
Three films later ... The Stephen Hawking one, Into the Woods (Disney) and Love, Rosie (writer of ps I love you!) (- none of which I would rush to see again)! And two meals later (again not overly the best!) we landed in Toronto.
As per usual on this blog the lady at passport control was grumpy, potentially not helped by James' response to the question 'how did you get 3 weeks off work?' 'We bribed them with the promise of bringing back maple syrup!' ... Not overly removed! Even though it had taken the obligatory age to get through customs our bags were only just emerging on the conveyor belt!
Steve,
the groom, had arranged a mini bus for us and his family that were in the same flight to take us 'downtown' ( got to get into the lingo now!!) alexis ( the bride) greeted us at the lodgings! Steve, Alexis, Elise (bridesmaid) and the parents, aunts and uncles are staying about 4 blocks away from us so not far at all. Our house has 3 floors, 3 double bedrooms a huge lounge, kitchen, diner and 2 bathrooms! Our room has a huge walk in wardrobe 😉
Alexis had kindly bought food to feed us all, so once changed in to clothes appropriate for 25 degree humid conditions we toddled back to theirs for a 'beat the jet lag' get together!
It was nice to meet Elise properly and have another girl around ... I'm very out numbered!! And we were going to have a BBQ, however the thunder storm and monsoon rains had other ideas! There was ALOT of water! We would be swimming at home if that much water had fallen with our drainage systems! But food cooked in the oven, a glass of vino and the battle was on to stay up as late as poss to
beat the 5hr time difference!
We didn't do too badly, abt 10pm our time, 3am yours! I am however writing this at 5.30am our time... Kinda successful battle?! Maybe?!
