Geo: -23.1414, -44.1613Today was always going to be a beach day, and after discussions last night, we decided that we would do just over half a day at Lopez mendes, one of the best beaches in the world according to trip advisor rather than push ourselves on a dawn til dusk day cruise!Breakfast, in James' words, was one of the best we've had, a mixture of British, Brazilian and European! We filled our boots so that lunch would be too much of an issue! They even had proper tea bags, however the boy was up to his old tricks of pouring coffee on it rather than water!!!We strolled into town (15mins) to stock up on water for the day and a packet of crisps, purely for the salt of course :/ ! And then to the ... read more

Geo: -23.141, -44.1613We arrived at rio airport at 7.30am rio time! Collected our bags and hoped that there was a dude with our name waiting for us! There was a dude with 'Ilha Grande. Genes ' written in some paper but no one else. After a quick look around we went up to him and said 'James??' In an inquisitive way. He responded with a 'si si' so we went along with it!We headed into rio catching a glimpse of big Jesus now and then but as it was rush hour the traffic was horrific. We met the mini bus which was full of English! Was so nice to understand what people were saying!! We then proceeded back out the way we came from the airport, even passed the airport door (bizarre organisation) towards the port. ... read more

Geo: -3.10719, -60.0261My hand was munched some what vociferously during the night. 20 on my right hand!! Doh! Oh well, we shall have to keep the bite relief handy for the day! James seems totally better this morning! He has a good constitution! This morning was swimming with pink dolphins, which, I have to say are scary bloody things! They are bigger than what one would usually think of as a dolphin, solid muscle and have bigger teeth! It was an interesting experience but not one I am all to keen to repeat! We also tried to catch some piraucu, fish that are 2m in length! Viscous things! Will upload a video of the attempt when I am home! On the way back to the lodge the heavens opened amazon style again but this time we ... read more

Geo: -3.10719, -60.0261The previous night I'm not sure how many mosi's were trapped in our net or whether my legs touched the net whilst asleep, but the back of my legs got somewhat annihilated!! Also James developed a bad belly in the night and had not slept. He stayed in bed throughout breakfast, with a visit in the middle from Gilmar, just what you want when you are feeling crappy! He laughed at him and asked him to play football!! Brilliant! I dosed him up with rehydration salts and by his orders left him on bed whilst we went on a morning hike! As soon as we left the boat to go into the jungle, the heavens opened. It was like a shower had be turned on and we were drenched in seconds. Also this meant ... read more

Geo: -3.0616, -60.0516Today was sunrise day in the jungle! However with no phones with us, we had to rely on my old Casio watch for an alarm! It worked, but maybe a little to well as could not work out which button to press to turn the damn thing off!!! We were on the boat just as it began to get light and the birds and frogs began their morning chorus. The river was ridiculously still, like a mirror for the hour we were out. The colours changed from monotone to a vibrant orange and red as the sun appeared over the bank and peaked through the clouds, all reflected back up to the heavens in the water. An Amazonian dolphin also decided to swim by, making it a perfect morning! In true, unorganised or laid ... read more

Geo: -3.0616, -60.0516The nights sleep was not spectacular! The ac unit sounded like a steam engine which by 2am was cold! Then once we had turned that off... It was the noise of the road outside! Norfolk is so quiet! We got up early as we were awake, repacked our lives so we only had what we needed for the jungle in our small bags, the rest could be locked away in the hotel. The shower had the power cable for the tv running over the top of it.... Prayers that I didn't end up fried were def said!! Breakfast consisted of bread and fruit! Can't complain at a free breakfast, although not sure the butter was actually edible! But it was then time to leave! We were joined by the Lo family from Hong Kong! ... read more

Geo: -3.0616, -60.0516The flight into Manaus was cold!!! Stupid airline refrigeration!!! On arrival, yet again, our bags were one of the last ones around the conveyor belt! Any other flight would be manageable.... But this one without our bags would be impossible!!! After thankfully retrieving our luggage, we went out of the area to find lots of people with name plaques, but none with ours.... Eeeeek! Then a dude strode up to us 'James and Laura' had held out for a firm hand shake and perfect English! Phew!!! This was Raphael!!! He is the dude that is sorting out the hospitality for the world cup oEnglish players friends and family on his patch! He is a very proud man!He drove us the 20mins to our 'hotel/hostel' via the stadium where England will be playing in the ... read more

Geo: -25.5622, -54.5725After James had cried at the arsenal result last night.... He found an Argentinian channel with it on.... And he'd had his grandad nap... We went on a forage for din dins! Down a different road this time and found what seemed to be the hub of our little town. We are at the Bambu restaurant which gave James an Argentinian sized lump of cow!! Food jealousy again as my pizza tasted like an asda base with ketchup and cheap cheese!! This was the first time that we got hassled by street children but they were harmless enough! Time for packing lives into bags again ready for the falls and flight to Manaus the following day. This morning we both woke up at about 5.15.... It sounded like someone had turned the shower on ... read more
