Geo: 38.6276, -90.199Not too much happened today.... we spent a lot of time telling Simon goodbye....the cat could care less we were leaving and so we drove to St. Louis, got to our hotel in time to walk next door and grab sandwiches from Denny's to go....watched the Cubs win the World Series! Actually, Kamie watched until it was tied at 6-6 and then he gave up on them and started snoring. I barely made it but the minute they won (almost midnight), I hit the remote and was out immediately.....our alarm was set for 3:30am for an early flight out of St. Louis.... read more

Geo: 37.209, -93.2916Summer for us was the longest 127 days you can imagine....because that's how long it took for our log home to sell. 127 days of checking on an empty house, paying two utility bills and two mortgages, and not knowing if our home would sell in 127 days or 1,027 days. We were prepared financially to be patient. We were not prepared mentally. No vacation, buyers asking strange questions, the house being empty was freaky, etc. We said our prayers daily from April through Labor Day ~ when our house was under contract, finally. We are leaving for St Louis tomorrow and I'm outta my mind excited tonight!! Yay!!! I've been working extra all year building-up my time and Kamie always has plenty of extra time so this is not just a journey to ... read more

Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364Today was a super-fun-family-filled day in Chicago! So fun, in fact, that I am writing this entry almost two months later (eeeks). I remember we had breakfast at a great little place by our hotel, went to the Chicago Planetarium, then the Shedd Aquarium (sooo fun and sooo big), saw a 5D SpongeBob movie (hubby and Finn LOVED it!), took an Uber ride to Giordano's, ate wayyyy too much excellent Giordano's food (again), and then waddled back to the hotel room. It was very cold and dark and so I semi-slept, tried to take a nap. We got back up at around 9pm and then later we walked to Navy Pier and saw an amazing New Year's Fireworks display that lasted... get this....17 or 18 FULL MINUTES!! Awesome Blossom!! It was sooo much fun ... read more

Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364Today was such a fun day! We woke-up extra early, showered, and we easily caught the 6:30am hotel airport shuttle. KC airport aka MCI is tiny. I was surprised. Security only had one slow-moving line. We were checked-in and had an hour so I got some Starbucks and they had some Starbucks Christmas ornaments that made my entire morning happy! Little glass cups that are Christmas ornaments. I. LUV. The barista at the counter was extra friendly, too.As I sat admiring my new purchase, it was time to board the plane. So, we got on the plane with lots of crying babies and families and we were all buckled-in when they announced that it was snowing in Chicago so all incoming flights were grounded. They announced the flight was not cancelled but delayed about ... read more

Geo: 39.103, -94.583We woke-up this morning to very cold weather ~ first time we've had to wear our winter coats thus far this "winter." We grabbed some OJ and a banana from the hotel breakfast and slowly started driving to KC. We stopped in Clinton for some thermal underwear for Kamie and ear muffs for me. Clinton is about the half-way point and a tiny town with a Wal-Mart. The drive today was incredibly easy. It snowed the night before in KC and the surrounding area but the highway was clear and it was actually sunny today. The drive to KC is on a flat, four-way highway and much quicker & easier than it used to be. I think I prefer KC to STL - much less traffic. Once we got to Belton we stopped for ... read more

Geo: 37.1489, -93.2614Hello! We are taking a week off work. That's the important news. The other news is questionable weather - floods, snow, ice, etc.. So, with rain flooding I-65 North so bad that our four-lane highway turned into a 2-way highway for about 1/4 a mile, and rain turning to big snow flakes and finally back to rain, we made it to Springfield easily today but carefully. No problems whatsoever. We had a nice, slow time packing and Simon allowed both of us to give him multiple goodbyes and kisses today. He followed me around as I packed and then just before we left I told him to hop on the bed so I could give him goodbye kisses... and he did! So, now that everyone is sick of reading about my dog, I'll move ... read more

Geo: 37.7792, -122.42Today we set our alarm for 5:45am. I immediately took a shower, got dressed, and got a camera. Kamie joined me and we watched our boat slowly sail under the Golden Gate Bridge and into San Francisco. I've crossed the Golden Gate Bridge before (on a bus) and I was really impressed. Today, it was foggy and for some reason, it didn't seem so big and impressive. It was still neat to see the entire wharf – including the Ghirardelli Hotel (at over $1,000 per night for some rooms) and other iconic places from our balcony as we sailed into San Francisco today. We watched the boat dock in San Francisco and threw the rest of our items together and walked down to deck 1 to leave the boat. I was the first person ... read more

Geo: 41.766, -124.217Kamie & I woke-up before 7am to foggy skies, cold weather, and a rather rocking boat. We've had beautiful weather this entire cruise and today it looks like it is going to pour rain any minute. I had just put my contacts this morning on when Kamie was out on the balcony and he yells "whale!" and I go outside and lo and behold… there is the spray again. It wasn't even 7:30am yet! What a great way to start the day. Later in the day, around 2pm, I was again on my way to the balcony and he was on the balcony and he yells “whale!” I grab the camera and we hear our neighbors get up and go look – and then we saw an entire pod – well, at least 5 ... read more

Geo: 46.1881, -123.83This morning we both slept-in a bit. It was great. I laid in bed awake but watching the ocean roll by for a long time. I finally got-up around 8:00am but Kamie refused so I left him sleeping while I went to check-out more of the ship. I decided to walk the outer deck 3 which goes all the way round the ship – 3 laps is a mile I think. There were several others walking and it was windy and cool and fantastic. It was a great way to start the day. The shops opened at 9am and I decided to see if there were any sales. I still haven't decided whether I'm going to get that "I wish I was on a dam ship" mug or not. It would be a pain ... read more

Geo: 49.2605, -123.114 Today was embarkation day for our short cruise. We are taking a Holland America cruise from Vancouver for a few days down the West Coast. We will stop in Astoria, Oregon and end in San Francisco, California. So, we woke-up in Vancouver before 8am but we always feel like we are sleeping-in here because 8am in Vancouver is 10am in Missouri. It is nice. We had our bags ready to go around 10:30am. We took a taxi to the ship and we were through customs quickly and part of the very first boarding group. Kamie & I looked around and quickly realized we are about 40 years younger than the average passenger. Kamie whispered during embarkation that we were surely the only two passengers still employed. So far, we have seen one other ... read more
