Happy Halloween from the eastern seaboard in the Atlantic! We are currently cruising in 50 mph winds and the boat is rocking & rolling and the surf is pounding outside. It’s very loud but not too bad and not scary or anything. We’ve seen and felt much worse. Though, it is eerie we were in Halifax, Novia Scotia Canada today which is where most of the Titanic bodies are buried. We wanted to visit the Titanic museum today or the cemetery but the cemetery had an emergency shutdown due to rains causing a sinkhole in the cemetery (those people can’t get a break dead or alive) and we learned there is no Titanic museum.. just a small museum with one small titanic exhibit – some pictures, a deck chair from the Titanic, etc. So, today we ... read more

Today is a Sea Day meaning we are on the ship all day as it cruises us to our next destination in Canada. It was in the mid to high 50s and sunny all day. Beautiful. I will share some “Ship Characters” with ya’ll today.... Remember Mr and Mrs Tennessee… she knew everything and he spent $96 in the bar one night? Well, they are celebrating their 50 year anniversary on this cruise. I saw him sitting in the pub again yesterday. They were chosen for the “Love & Marriage Show” onboard and let’s just say they are old superfreaks. Next, we have Mister Helper Man who is here with his wife and her family. He is a very energetic and funny man who has a sincerely nice wife and a gawd awful mother-in-law. He doesn’t ... read more

North America » Canada » New Brunswick » St John October 29th 2019

Greetings from Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. We are now 2 hours ahead of you in the time zone. It is late. I am tired. We had a long day today. We woke-up and decided we should do a little tour or something today. We were busy today. The boat docked here around 10:30am and we were in line to get off the boat by 11am. We walked to the City Market. It was cool to see but it was also located up the steepest street in Canada (for reals). Yikes what a climb that turned-out to be. After touring that area, we walked back down and decided to have a 1:30pm drink at a local lobster café/pub because we weren’t hungry. At 2pm, we caught a tour we purchased when we got off the boat. ... read more

North America » United States » Maine » Bar Harbor October 28th 2019

Happy Birthday to McKamie in Bar Harbor, Maine! Today was supposed to be a so-so day. I didn’t think there was too much in Bar Harbor and so we had nothing planned. I had read it would be raining and our coldest stop of the cruise. Today was a pleasant surprise. Bar Harbor is an enclave of small islands connected by a sand bar… when the tide is low, you can walk to one of the islands but if the tide rises, you are stuck on the island. Bar Harbor is also a small hideaway for the wealthy. We could easily see why today. This little piece of America is nothing short of glorious in the autumn and it is easy to look around and imagine the fun in the sun of summer, too. Backing up…. ... read more

This morning our ship arrived in Portland, Maine around 7:30am and it was gorgeous outside with all the beautiful autumn trees! The Maine coastline is beautiful. It was also 41 degrees and the forecast was calling for rain all day and it was already sprinkling. We were off the boat by 9:30am because we had a little fun planned today. I found a private company called Lucky Catch Cruises that offers you the chance to ride in a small lobstering boat out to the Casco Bay and help pull the lobster traps. It’s mainly a small tourist attraction however, this family-run business does pull their traps every day and they sell their lobsters to the Portland Lobster Company, a local lobster restaurant on the wharf. The reservation said rain or shine so off we went… in ... read more

North America » United States » Massachusetts » Boston October 27th 2019

Today we were in Boston, Massachusetts. I have been here before and he has not. It is a town enveloped in history. He considers it the birthplace of Boston Cream Pie. Okay, maybe it’s that too? Let’s back up… last night we went to one of the outdoor pool decks to see a movie – Yesterday. Kamie got us warmed blankets and we bundled-up. It really wasn’t that cool – in the high 50s. It was such a sweet movie.. the music, the storyline, and the comedy. The ship docked in Boston just after 5am this morning while it was still dark outside. Our TV said 52 degrees with 94% humidity. It was so foggy we could barely see the lights of Boston directly in front of us. We took an Uber to the Quincy Hall ... read more

North America » United States » New Jersey » Newark October 25th 2019

Today is the day we boarded this beautiful ship! We are only one hour ahead of Missouri and seeing that I normally am awake by 5:30am, I didn't think setting an alarm was necessary. We woke-up at 9:43am Eastern time. Check-out and our shuttle to the cruise ship were both at 11:00am. It was shocking, funny, and marvelous. I had laid-out and organized everything the evening prior so we took showers and grabbed our bags. The ride to the cruise ship was the two of us and this very large extended family of a widowed mom with her grown children (in their 50s/60s) and their spouses. The men started talking about all the seafood they planned to eat on this cruise... fried shrimp, boiled lobster, baked salmon... they all sounded like Forest Gumps. It was funny. ... read more

Start Spreading The News…. …we saw New York City from New Jersey! ? HA Today was a beautiful day with perfect weather and friendly New Jersey folks! So… let’s back-up… we (as usual) left home late and arrived in St Louis at almost 5 o’clock exactly yesterday. The traffic was crazy. Why do we do these things to ourselves? We stayed at a Hilton (Hampton) next to the airport. The receptionist at the check-in desk used to work for Lisa and she lived in Thayer. It’s a small world folks. We started watching the Nationals beat the Astros in Game 1 of the World Series and fell asleep during the end. We left our hotel room at 3am this morning. It was cold and windy in St Louis when we left. We slept on our flight ... read more

Where do I start? It's been a tough year... we lost our beloved Scaredy cat in March.... then Keith passed suddenly which threw us for a loop….and then the sweetest dog on Earth, my Simon, passed away just last month. September was the saddest month of my life thus far. I can still barely talk about losing Simon. I miss him almost every day. It's like a suffocating lump in your throat that doesn't go away. In other news, the St Louis Cardinals had a great year. I've always loved baseball and at some point in my life I switched from backing the KC Royals to the STL Cardinals. This year, with Simon being sick and blind, he couldn't do much.. he would whine if I didn't stay near him....so I would sit with him after ... read more

We are in the Miami Airport waiting for our plane. Kamie is literally snoring next to me. I’m drinking Starbucks so I’m wide awake. We were up at 5:30am this morning which is 4:30am Missouri time. We were in the first group off the ship. We Ubered to the Miami airport. We have a very long layover in Atlanta airport today so we won’t be in Memphis until around 5:30pm tonight. I suspect I will be driving home and all will go well. Kamie’s new car is the smoothest ride I’ve ever experienced…. makes driving in out of Memphis traffic seem like a trip to Ramey’s…. it feels like it glides. Update: Kamie took over in Jonesboro and we didn’t get home until around 11pm and let’s just say his driving made me yell at him ... read more
