Although the taxi ride to the airport in Hong Kong, China was an hour or so, the check-in process was smooth as silk, and, while I was enjoying a cup of coffee, I was entertained by a robot that delivered cocktails from the bar to the servers at a lounge across from the bar. The flight from Hong Kong to Seoul, South Korea was uneventful, and the seats between my aisle seat and the "window" seat were unoccupied. The passenger across the aisle from me, a man from Northern Ireland who had now been living in Hong Kong for eight years, also had two empty seats between him and the window. This was not unusual for many flights, but this flight seemed to be about 95% of capacity. I suppose most of the passengers were travelling ... read more

After the great experiences of South Korea and Taiwan, it was time to head for our main destination when we first started planning our voyage…..Japan. There are so many considerations when you have the luxury of some three and a half weeks in a single nation, so where do you begin? A country with some 150 million inhabitants crammed on an island where roughly three-quarters of the terrain is mountainous, this is one populous country. With a little research, we ended up on the island of Okinawa, the southernmost and westernmost part of Japan. Part of the strategy was that it was technically still winter and perhaps we would find more forgiving climes here….and we were right. We are always happy when we get off the plane and see palm trees. We flew on Peach Airlines ... read more

Today, so far, didn’t go quite go as I had planned! My plan was… to get up, get showered and sorted, then go off the beautiful roof top to enjoy my first breakfast at the new hotel. Well… that didn’t happen! I woke up at about 1am this morning, and I was struggling to get back to sleep, but eventually I did. I finally woke up very comfortable, totally relaxed in my huge, and very empty feeling, bed! Due to the sheer size of it! Then I slowly turned over, got up. The first thing I did was to unplug my phone, as it’s been on charge overnight. OMG!!! Shock! It’s 11am! I have slept through the whole of the morning plan! WOW! I dropped back the non- prepared plan b!! I notched up my speed! ... read more

Xin Chao Ho Chi Minh!

Another restful night! Although, I had lots of issues with both Facebook and Instagram. I actually thought that I’d been hacked, after lots of hassle trying to log in, change passwords etc….. I gave up, and deleted it all! I sent a message through WhatsApp, asking my family what had happened, and to put a message on for me explaining….. Ella responded back,.. Mum, Facebook is down! Grrrrr.. now I have none of them, and I have no idea what the passwords are because I don’t know at which point, or what my 20th attempt as password changes I had got to. I decided to go to sleep, and leave it until the morning! I woke up at about 8am. It’s moving day today, after my shower, I finished packing my case, then went down for ... read more

Un photographe français ... read more

Tour Day 145 – SA 02 MAR 2024 – Hong Kong, China – The ship arrived on time and disembarkation began as scheduled. I retrieved my luggage, proceeded to the Uber pick-up location and began to summon an Uber. I began by calling up the IHG app to get the address of the “Holiday Inn Express Causeway Bay Hong Kong, an IHG Hotel” where (I thought) I had made a reservation. I was told I had “No Future Stays,” so I booked my room online without any problems. I went to the Uber app and summoned my ride (apparently) selecting my drop-off location as “Holiday Inn Express, 33 Sharp St E, Bowrington” from the dropdown provided. The Uber driver, who spoke virtually no English, arrived and took me to the point Google Maps and the Uber ... read more
