In den Norden – über Dong Hoi und Ninh Binh nach Hanoi Der Weg von Hoi An in Richtung Hauptstadt ist lang und die Gegenden bis dorthin sind nicht gerade von vielen Attraktionen überschüttet. Trotzdem haben wir uns entschlossen noch zwei kurze Zwischenstopps einzulegen. Unser nächster Stopp ist also Dong Hoi. Für den Weg dahin haben wir uns spontan für den Zug entschieden. Definitiv ist Zug fahren das wohl sicherste Fortbewegungsmittel in Vietnam. In irgend einem Reiseführer habe ich mal gelesen, dass Vietnam in der Weltrangliste der Verkehrstoten ganz weit vorne rangiert. I was very fortunate to have my friend Anisa travel all the way from Montana to Hanoi for Christmas. She stayed past when I had to return to Dhaka for work, but we managed to see and do a lot during our travels together. We started with a rough itinerary: Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi on Christmas. Eat a giant Christmas dinner. Day 2: Recover from jetlag (Anisa had to get used to a 14 hour difference) and eat phở. Day 3: Eat phở and take night train north to Sapa. Day 4: Explore the town of Sapa and see if the locals eat phở. Day 5: Hike the mountains above Sapa and check hill villages for phở. Geo: 20.9063, 107.082I timed my journey to Hanoi so I could arrange a trip out to Halong Bay for my birthday and what an adventure it turned out to be. I met a lovely girl Maria while booking up and a young guy Adrian so we all booked the same trip together. I had already done some checking and we were getting a good deal on the two night tour which meant one night on board a junk out in Halong Bay (on my birthday) and one night on Cat Ba island the following day. 9 November to 15 November 2012 – This was my last trip with the photographer. Although we sometimes had different points of view and disagreements because of our personalities, I would still like to thank my traveling companion for sharing the costs and experiences with me on the long road. From now on, we will go our different ways and meet new people. It’s not easy to say goodbye to someone, but that is the way travel is. Back to the last trip.
