Woke up and packed. Today I separate from the group and head out on my own. I left both pairs of sandals and my cowboy hat in the hotel room. The shoes have torn my feet up with blisters and I don't think I need the hat in Nepal. All I have left to wear is my Levi tennis shoes that require socks and it is too hot for socks! Plus I have too much to carry and need to keep it simple! We all met for breakfast then took the boat across to Abnang. The girls got in a cab to the airport and I took a truck cab back into Krabi (a taxi that is set up on a small pick up truck. There are benches lining the back of the pickup and a ... read more

March 12, 2015 Today we woke up and went across the street to the street market for breakfast. There was a variety of shops open there as well as many street vendors preparing food. The breakfast was good! We had a rice soup with pork in it and waffles, and some other things that I am not sure of the name but were good. Later we rode in the back of a pickup truck up into the mountains were we hiked in to a great waterfall and swimming pond. We brought with us a drink that Nichole had prepared that translates literally into the words Vagina Juice. I am not sure of the ingredients but it is suppose to be good for a woman's inner parts and thus the name. Before we left Nichole warned us ... read more

Had booked a tour for today to go and do a spot of kayaking. Its a popular way to see some of Krabi's history on its many waterways. Got picked up at 07.30 and had a nice chat with a couple from Bristol en route. After an hours drive we had arrived and after 1st stopping for a cup of tea - what else!? We met with the tour guide. Sharing the kayak with the guide this was gonna be an easy days kayaking! Heading off up the large river we made it to our first stop which was to see a huge collection of stalagmites and stalactites as we paddled our way through the caves. As we carried on we saw a kingfisher and some unusual fish that live on the mud banks. They're about ... read more

With not a huge amount to do on KO phi phi and not being one of those people that can sit on a beach and do nothing for days I decided to head back to Krabi. With Krabi being on the mainland its more of a central spot in which to visit other places from. Staying back in the same hostel I headed out for a fruit shake and some lunch before deciding my next move. Really being in two minds whether to book another boat tour for tomorrow or not I decided to - being highly recommended by the nice lady at the tour agency. Relaxing for the rest of the evening and walking the short distance to the food night market for some dinner I headed back to the hostel just as a heavy ... read more

This morning I got picked up at 8.00 with a girl from Scotland and a girl from Birmingham also going on the same trip. After a 2hr ride we pulled up alongside 4 other minibuses full of tourists and climbed into 2 waiting longboats. As it powered its way out from the small jetty we passed many beautiful islands and made it to what they call 'james bond island'. Not ever being a fan I wasn't sure how id feel about seeing it, but it was actually quite stunning. The island features in The Man With The Golden Gun and was once part of a bigger island but through tidal corrosion has broken away. So the smaller part sits just 50 metres away from the main island. The main island is very small and full of ... read more

Today started with finding a nice place for breakfast followed by a bus ride to the Tiger Temple - which was kindly suggested by a friendly tour agency ( next door to the hostel). The temple is housed in a cave so after having a wander round I geared myself up for the 1230 steps up to the next temple! A steep staircase leading its way up the side of a sheer limestone cliff face brought you a lovely view with a large golden Buddha also looking out at it. As well as carrying my rucksack to the top i also carried a macaque for some of the way - who was trying but failed to get my water out my bag! Heading back down and back to the main road to flag down a return ... read more

Trying to have had a early night last night I found it easier to doze off while watching 4 weddings and a funeral! Setting my alarm for 02.45 and having a pre booked taxi come for me at 03.30 for my first flight at 6am - it was an early start to the day. Pleased that the first flight for that route left on time ( I had 4 1/2 hrs between international flights - hoping that I would have enough time!) we actually landed at Kuala Lumpur half an hr early - so far so good. Not wanting to hang about I made it through the airport in half an hour - with for some reason 2 security checks to get through! As for Malaysia one isn't quite enough! Being reunited with my bag I ... read more

My journey begins in 7 days and I am now tying lose ends together. Called my banks and found out cheapest ATM rates,...there aren't any! Chase charges 3% of any transaction and $5 cash out of the ATM machine and so does Wells Fargo. I believe I will carry money this time when I leave, which is not a normal practice for me! I always use the ATM's and never paid much attention to rates. Trying to go cheap this time so I can do more and travel more on the money I am putting aside for travel. Anyway, I found out Discover doesn't charge anything on International purchases but it is not accepted everywhere. So for a backup, my USAA master card only charges 1% on purchases. I also checked with my phone company, SPRINT. ... read more

Arriving at our villa in Krabi was a very welcome feeling after a week on board ship with hardly any space. It had lovely big beds and toilets without generator vibrations, but it was a bit strange adjusting to dry land again.Stuart and I had a couple of hours feeling seriously disorientated with swaying heads the first evening, but we soon acclimatised. Feeling a lot more tired than we had realised, we did very little for a few days apart from sleeping a lot, making the most of great wi fi for school work and catching up on laundry. Our saviour throughout the week was our lovely driver Pong who ferried us around, always arriving to collect us as arranged and making sure we had everything we needed. One morning he even went out to source ... read more
