Beaching is always my favourite thing to do on the vacation. I just got back from a friends-and-family trip to Krabi, Thailand. It turns out that spending time with loved ones, in an affordable paradise, is one of the better ways to pass three days. So without further ado, let me tell you about our getaway and hopefully give you some solid ideas about what to do in Krabi Thailand. Krabi, Thailand Trip Day One: An Airport Reunion As is the case with any trip, the first hurdle was getting there. Luckily, Krabi is a hospitality hub, so finding flights is fairly easy. My husband Archie and I flew into Krabi directly from our current home base in Chiang Mai. Our friends hopped a flight from Bangkok. My parents, who already live down sou... read more

The sun finally arrived on our honeymoon! We hurried out of bed to take advantage of the clear morning, unknowing if the storm clouds would move back in. Kristy got a banana and chocolate pancake breakfast while we walked between two beaches. We settled into a spot on url=https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g1507054-d7155397-Reviews-Ao_Nang_Beach-Ao_Nang_Krabi_Town_Krabi_Province.htmlAo Nang beach. It was hot, sunny, and breezy; a perfect day for the beach. We laid out for a while then tested the surf. The water was warm but still refreshing. After soaking up as many rays as we could, we ascended some beachside stairs to the url=https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g1507054-d8869847-Reviews-The_Crab_Company_Restaurant_Bar-Ao_Nang_Krabi_Town_Krabi_Province.htmlCrab Company restaurant. What would you do on your last day in Thailand? Visit a temple of course! Tiger Cave Temple sits high up on a tall lime karst overlooking the small town of Krabi. We jumped on a local bus right outside our guest house which took us all the way to the temple for 50 Baht each (£1). As we were dropped off the driver pointed to a sheet with times written on and indicated he would pick us up at the time we pointed to. We chose 12.30. Three hours later. Service!! We walked around the temples at the bottom before tackling the 1267 or so steps to the top. Within minutes we were pouring with sweat stopping frequently to catch our breath and take in the fantastic views. Finally, at the top we walked around ... read more

We left Bangkok in a tropical storm and flew the 1 hr south west to Krabi. As Bangkok, warm and humid on arrival. The only way to get to our hotel the Centara Grand is by 15 minute ferry (no charge for residents). This does of course mean you are a bit cut off. There is a steep up and down 10 minute walk ‘The Monkey Trail’ to the next bay Ao Nang, to escape, snorkeling trips to Phi Phi and other places can be organized and you can summon a long tail to take you to next beach at Rail Key. But what does Ao Nang have to offer; not much. Lots of bars, restaurants and massage parlours (all quite respectable I hasten to add). Some will be delighted to hear that Frin persuaded me ... read more

After a month in India we were looking forward to the change that Thailand would offer for a couple of weeks! We were also looking forward to seeing some familiar faces in the shape of The Perham’s who we were meeting in Bangkok before heading south to the islands. Before that though we had to negotiate the small matter of a country mourning the anniversary of their King’s death and a five day funeral ceremony which led to most of the city being shut down when we arrived - not helped by the fact that I felt like I was pretty close to my own death bed by the time we had arrived still feeling the effects of a nasty souvenir from our last few days in India! I’d like to say that being the well ... read more

The next few days, I came to know our little group of travelers. There's Danute from Lithuania, Abby and James, from Nashville Tennessee, shimmy and devon, a couple travelling from Canada, Nayab and Iba from India, 2 separate guys from Germany, Jonas and... I didn't get his name :/, and another James, from England. Mostly together, we did the next couple of activities: A snorkeling trip at the Hong Islands. I liked this one a lot more than the one in koh Lanta. Less boating, more snorkeling and beaching. There's also a couple of people living on the island, in caves. They're supplied by the mainland and make sure the birds nests here aren't disturbed until the end of the season. After that, they harvest them, to be sold on the Chinese market. Apparently, the saliva ... read more

A sunny beach and mangrove forest hide one of the nicest hostels I stayed at. 'The Bananas' was the perfect place to end my stay in Southern Thailand. At the time I'm writing this, there's only one more day to go before I leave the land of smiles. And incidentally, about an hour, before I hop on my scooter, drive back to Ao Nang and get a shared taxi to the airport. I felt a bit.. Apprehensive before coming here. Locked in, a victim of my own planning (or lack thereof). I booked the plane ticket from krabi earlier, because I expected to go to koh Lipe (but didn't, because of the weather. People that actually went told me this was a good decision, but still..) it caused me to have to stay in the krabi ... read more

Arriving just after darkness fell, we found the bus station in Krabi in darkness. It seemed that our bus was the last one of the day to arrive. It was a little disconcerting but we were able to find transport to our guest house. It seems that the bus station is usually a lively place with places to grab a snack and plenty of tuk tuks and taxis to help you move on. Rooms@Krabi Guesthouse turned out to be an excellent choice. It's not luxury accommodation but it has everything you need and the staff are super friendly. They were always willing to help and if their English wasn't good enough to answer your query, they could always find someone else. It was such a refreshing change. We enjoyed it so much that we stayed one ... read more

Geo: 8.05, 98.91Barbara had pre-booked an early pickup for us all to take an all-day boat and beach excursion. What a day it was!! It started after breakfast, when the four of us loaded into a truck with only benches on which to sit. I was not sure I would have wanted to have an accident in that. We were taken to the outdoor office of the boat company, where we were asked to pay our deposit. I thought I had 1,000 Baht bill with me (about $28), but I had really only picked up 100 Baht note – more than a little embarrassing. Luckily the tour company must had decided I looked trustworthy and let me pay later, and I was glad that did not stop us as this was the best day! We walked ... read more

Geo: 8.05, 98.91After a western breakfast in the hotel with many fruits I loved (not always sure what they were), we headed to the front of the hotel where I had arranged a driver to take us back into town to a beach area, from where we would take a long boat (famous Thai boat) to the most beautiful beach in the area, Phra Nang Beach. It was the beach itself but also the ride over which was breathtaking -- beautiful beach resorts and many huge monolithic karsts -- the limestone formations famous in Thai beach pictures. Of course getting on the boat was a show unto itself, as you have to go out into the water and then haul yourself up on to the two step ladder into the boat, which was pretty primitive. The ... read more
