Hello again! So we have left Ko Lanta and travelled for 12 hours today to find ourselves in Kanchanaburi, 150 kms east of Bangkok - home to The River Kwai, Hellfire Pass and The Tiger Temple. We have 2 nights / 2 days here before heading off for Cambodia so I thought I would give a rundown on our time in Lanta. The good and the NOT so good!! Originally this blog was titled Ko Lanta - From the Pits of Hell to a Slice of Paradise (and you will soon work out why!) however I found a better title! Hehehe! However lets start where I left off with one of the previous blogs and we had just gotten off the ferry from hell and were on our way to the perfect resort where nothing could ... read more

An extremely slow laid back chilled out place, the beach seemed to be huge and stretch for miles but there was no one about anywhere, we'd walk along it and just come to the odd 'bar' every now and again, all very basic a few bits of bamboo tied together makes for a good beach front drinking establishment! There was often nobody at them other than a couple of locals who worked there sitting back getting stoned. We hired mopeds and biked around the island, but we didn't find too much more so there's not much more to say about this place really, you can just enjoy the photo's instead. ... read more

HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE!!!! I hope everyone had a safe & fun New Years Eve.... while we missed our close friends and family we had a ball and wish we could of shared it with those we love! You have to do a New Years overseas at least once in your lifetime!! But where to start?! Finding Nemo - A day of snorkelling fun We started our day off with a day trip to the islands surrounding Ko Lanta with our new friends that we met in Phuket - Pat and Alison from England. I had originally booked a private day trip with Lanta Long Tail and when we found out that Pat and Alison would be on Lanta at the same time we invited them along... we are so glad we did! We all ... read more

A 32 hour journey with bus, plane, boat and bus again took us from the far north to the deep south onto the tropical island of Ko Lanta. We passed through the popular tourist resort of Ko Phi Phi, where the beach was filmed; this once idyllic island has all but been ruined by the Thais enthusiasm and greediness for visitors and lack of sustainable tourism enforced to control foreign visitors. Now you could be mistaken for thinking you were in the Costa del Sol without the high rises, every second shop sells cheap tourist goods and the tourists swarm through the narrow streets looking for traditional British and German restaurants, if you want a fry up in Thailand this is the place. We hoped to find more tranquil surroundings as I had 5 years ago ... read more

Another year gone by so quickly but its definitely one of the best years I've ever had. I've challenged myself in so many ways and I'm really happy where I am now. It was a bit odd not celebrating Christmas and New Years at home but I guess it makes you appreciate what you have at home, your friends and family. We celebrated Christmas on an Island in Malaysia called Penang. You wouldnt think it was Christmas walking around in 30 degree heat, blue skies and hardly a Christmas decoration to swing out of, but we did manage to get a nice Christmas dinner buffet in a posh hotel for 10 euro. They even had pudding and custard but it wasnt the best I've ever had. From Penang we took a ferry to the beautiful tropical ... read more

happy christmas and a smashing new year! hannah and i have just unwillingly reaquainted ourselves with bangkok after a few weeks on the beautiful island of koh lanta... we had intended to be sensible and head to ko chang for our well - deserved holiday....what? travelling is hard work. not as hard as say, actual work mind....no, who am i trying to kid? we wanted to get a tan in time for australia. superficial are we? you're damn right we are! koh chang is only five hours travelling from bangkok, where we need to be to get our flight next thursday. so it would make more sense to do that than to travel a whole extra day out of our way, right? trust The Cockneys to go and fling a spanner in the works! we'd never ... read more

The morning we left Pai was not a good one. I awoke from a restless sleep, and immediately ran to the bathroom to eject the previous night's dinner; a touch of food poisoning seemed the most likely cause for this upchuck, and for what was to follow. The bus journey from Chiang mai to Pai had been a stomach-churning ordeal, taking us round one nauseous chicane after another, and now, I had to do the reverse of this in my tragic gastric state. Sitting by an open window, I proceeded to give the outside of the mini-bus a new lick of paint, applied evenly at 15 minute intervals. Unable to keep even water down, this nightmare continued right up until we were on our flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. Touching down in the capital's chaotic ... read more

Well, I'm on Koh Samui and I can honestly say, despite the fact the place is gorgeous, I've been happier. For starters, my money appears to have dried up somehow, so I'm waiting on that to be resolved, and today has been pretty much a nothing day, just staring at the sea (albeit not a bad thing to be staring at), trying not to spend too much money on the 'unimportant' things (ie food, water, haha) and wanting very badly to do just that. Secondly, I've not been able to access my email for two days, which is bad news because all the info for my next hotel booking is on there. Damn you Gmail, damn you right down to internet hell! On the positive side though, I spent a few gorgeous days on Koh Lanta, ... read more
