Well we've just had an eye-opening week of beaches, curry dishes and friendly people! We had 3 days in Phi phi and around 3 days in Lanta, and while this was not nearly enough for a good holiday, it was all we needed for some relaxing in the hammock, some snorkelling, a thai massage and a cocktail or two. The weather was as expected warm and humid, and at night mosquitoes came into play. After a few nasty bites we took the neccessary precuations with the mosquito net and spray! The major difference we found between the two islands was that phi phi was quite busy and compact, with lot's of dive shops and food stalls setup for tourists, where as Koh lanta was a bit more peaceful with less development. On Lanta we hired a ... read more

Koh Lanta is a small island in the Andaman Sea and we stayed here for one week in total because the place was pretty booked up with it being Christmas. We ended up staying in a hotel right on Klong Dao beach which meant it was really nice at breakfast time- sitting there having your breakfast listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the sand. We took plenty of walks here too because the beach was so long and beautiful. Ban Saladan is the main town and we went down there a few times for meals out and shopping. Generally though we just did what we came to do and that’s relax in beautiful surroundings. We did not go to the famous island of Koh Pi Pi where the beach was filmed because ... read more

So before sorting the other entries for the Tour in the north have to add these pics of Ko Lanta the island near Krabi where I meet up with Phil and the Lads after they moved from Ko Thao. The life here is definately better than in Bangkok but I think this goes without saying. Beautiful weather, some mosquitos (but we had the raquet!) and plenty of time to train the Ghecko in the dark with the laser gun. The guys r really into diving and I think one day I promise I'll give it a go cos there is like another world down there and it must be seen to be believed (Borat insegna) Special message to Christian "Riccioli" Carminati! u should have really been there with us man!we really missed u! but Im sure ... read more

Moved my way south to Koh Lanta on my way to Bali ultimately. I have to make my way about 1400 miles by December the 28th for my flight headed to Melbourne Australia. Koh Lanta was friendly and i met nice people, but again it was full of couples and very quiet otherwise. I had just left my best mates in Laos and was feeling a bit lonely not having great friends around. I wasn't quite ready to be alone yet. I took it for granted while in Koh Lanta but i still had a great time. Rented motor bikes and saw a bit of the island. Otherwise i just sat in the huts on the beach and read. It was a very relaxing time. ... read more

In bangkok, on kao san road, we managed to buy a krabi bus tickety for 180 baht (less then 4 euro) It was supposed to have taken 12 hrs, but that turned out to be 15, because first we stopped at surat thani before heading south again. From krabi port, we took the boat over to ban saladan, the main village on koh lanta. There were about 20 men waiting for us, all trying to drive us like cattle into their trucks and onto their guesthouses. We got tackled aswell, and when we decided not to stay in their resort, we were asked a very high price for the taxi trip. Competition is fierce, i guess. After much unsuccesfull searching along the beach, we decided to spend the first night in an expensive bungalow with AC. ... read more

Well its our last day on Ko Lanta. Had the most amazing time here and met the best people. Had a few beach party nights onw with a live band which was great. Had a great BBQ the other night. Some German guys bought some fsh and the bar man on the beach bar just cooked it on a BBQ. As it isnt a restaurant it was really cheap. Baracuda is very tasty! We planned to have an early night with no drinking as we had to get up at 6.30 the next day fro the 24 hour bus journey to Singapore. Few too many later at 4 o'clock i went to bed Whoops!!!... read more

Having finished our exploits in the jungle our next stop was the Adaman coast of Thailand starting in the estuary town of Krabi. Here we booked into the excellent P. Guesthouse for a couple of nights. On our only full day here we took a sea kayaking trip around Hong Island, which involves paddling your two man canoe around the mangroves and into the main lagoon. The island itself was beautiful, turquoise sea, white sand and lots of greenery covering the ever present limestone cliffs. Whilst out on our canoe we were lucky enough to spot a large group of reef sharks who flitted in and out of our canoes. High up above were also what we think were sea eagles wheeling around. Although the day itself had perfect weather on our way back to the ... read more

Our last tropical Island (in thailand) was Koh Lanta, and what a beautiful island it was, possibly rating in the top 2. Finding a room proved to be strenuous as everywhere appeared to be fully booked, after a long, hot, hilly walk we discovered a fantastic secluded spot on the beach. Koh Lanta has not yet been overdeveloped so you can still feel isolated and away from it all and have the beach all to yourself. Our last days revolved around snorkelling, lying in hammocks, drinking with locals at our private bar, having massages (a Thai Massage you should note is not a relaxing experience however, every muscle is pummeled, streched and battered, your bones almost pulled out of joint and you body streched in positions you couldnt possibly imagine!! Whereas with an oil massage although ... read more

Monday 20 November Our boat to take us to Ko Lanta was leaving the port at 11.30am. Stu woke up slightly worse for wear but we managed to drag our tired, hungover bods to the port in time. As we went to board a ticket clerk took our slip off us even though we needed it to get over to Krabi. He advised us that we could not have it back as it was unusable now. Apparently we could only do one trip out to either Ko Lanta or Krabi - not both. Kerry lost her rag at him and taking out the swear words didn’t have much to say. Its so easy to get skanked around here, you just don’t expect tour reps to do it from their cosy little office. We boarded and 1hour ... read more
