I tried to be careful with the sun but it didn’t help at all. Red as a lobster. The kids had already been to Italy and have been building up a nice defence against the sun already so they are alright. We are mostly swimming on the beach or in the pool, we also rented a motorbike which we drove for a small excursion and now the kids are screaming for their own ones We are living at the beach for the moment. In an ordinary bungalow but have been looking at an apartment a few minutes from here. Not at the beach more like in the jungle but with a lot more space and its own kitchen. It felt spacious and comfortable and would do well for our needs but we will also talk to ... read more

8.8.10 Ko Lanta - Staying with Graeme and Ae. Leaving Ko San in the early evening just as the heavens opened, we caught the first of 4 buses. (We were promised a direct bus) The first was an overnight bus to Suratanni arriving at 4:30am where we were abandoned onto the pavement to await our connection. Sun up and the 2nd bus arrived to transport us across Thailand’s southern strip to Krabi. Krabi is a small town we remember all too well (nothing good) where we were dropped at a ticket sales agent. We insisted we did not need accommodation, ferry or anything else. The next mini bus took us to an undisclosed location where again we confirmed to the pushy salesmen we did not need accommodation or anything else. Once believed, we were driven by ... read more

After a smooth trip from Frankfurt to Bangkok we arrived after another short flight to Krabi airport. Happy but a little tired and considering the food on the airplanes we really where looking forward to some proper Thai cuisine. As usual they had several taxi services and information booths to choose from and all wanted our attention pretty bad. We decided for a lush and green place on Ko Lanta directly instead of staying in Krabi the first night as we first planned and asked the people in the blue shirts for a taxi there. We ended up in a pimped VAN with a huge boom box and disco lights as well as a chilling aircon unit and a nice lcd display. That made the 2,5 hour drive and the 2 ferries it took to ... read more

After a two hour boat ride from the mainland we arrived at Ko Lanta, one of Thailand's more overlooked islands. Occupying the same general area as better known islands, Ko Phi Phi and Phuket, it slips under most tourist's radars. I had missed it on my first tour of the Andaman coast and both Becca and I were excited to see it this time. After spending four days there I can say that I loved Ko Lanta and would rank it as one of my favourite spots in Thailand. Ko Lanta is relatively flat compared to the Phi Phi sisters and only its Western coast has swimmable beaches. These are a few of the reasons why it sees far fewer tourists than either Phuket or Phi Phi. When we arrived in mid May, peak tourist season ... read more

Our trip from Langkawi to Ko Lanta was interesting to say the least. We thought the trip would be 6 to 8 hours, it turned into another all day affair. We were stamped out of Malaysia on Langkawi and boarded a boat made for midgets with assigned seating, there was zero leg room (imagine Scott, 6”2’ crammed into a window seat with no leg room) we waited until the boat got moving and found an empty row near the back where we could stretch out a bit more. The boat ride lasted about one hour and we were shuffles through Thai immigration with no problems. About a half an hour wait and we were taxied to the Bus station in Satun where we had a two hour wait mixed with confusion as to which bus we ... read more

Krabi to Koh Lanta, 26th to 29th April 2010 We were the only westerners in the mini van from Malaysia to Thailand and it was quite funny trying to interpret what the Malaysians and Thais might be saying. The border crossing went smoothly except we always seemed to join the slowest moving queue. The difference between Malaysia and Thailand was apparent as soon as we crossed the border with things looking a little less unkempt and yet more people piled onto mopeds. We arrived into Krabi at around 5.30pm and checked into our room at the Grand Tower Hotel. We ate that eve at a small food market down by the harbour. For desert I indulged in one of my favourite Thai delicacies, a Thai pancake with banana and chocolate, yum! We walked off our dinners ... read more

Ok, here we go again. Sorry for a delay - I got a bit lazy over here. So I did some more diving - went to Hin Deng/ Hin Mouang. It was fantastic as every other dive. The only hick up - the site is a bit far and I had to take a speed boat. I hate speed boats. They are small, cramped and not comfortable. I almost got sick, but didn't. Nothing is worst than getting sea sick and then diving. Anyways, after that I decided I've had enough diving for now. The weather is changing up here. It's a beginning of a slow season, or more correctly - wet season. Basically in the tropic you have 2 seasons, hot season - which is hot and dry and wet season, which is cooler but ... read more

I went to Ko Lanta by myself to have some chilled time out and to go on some adventures. I didn't get too far as within the first day I had met 2 great guys form London who were staying in the bungalow next to mine, who I joined in sitting in hammocks, smoking and drinking cocktails all day and all night for 5 days. The bar of the hostel was made out of all big lumps of drift wood and had lots of fairy lights, bits of coral, baloons and general brick brack hanging from the ceiling, and pillows, lows tables and hammocks too. So for 5 days all I did was that! It was great! Started to realise more that I was living the dream, I am in absolute paradise and soo soo soo ... read more

KOH LANTA After an interminable wait at passport control, we got whisked through and onto the boat. As we did not have a seat number we got sent to the front by the window, great for the leg room, but not great for watching the TV, which was showing Hellboy 2. We managed to get a bit of a snooze and done a bit of reading, before in no time we had arrived in Satun. Well this bit of the journey was a bit of a blur as no one seems to know how to get from Langkawi to Koh Lanta. We arrived at the terminal and Charlotte accosted as couple of sticker wearing passengers to ask them how they were doing the next bit of the journey, but they did not seem to know either ... read more

I moved from Phuket cause it seams a bit hectic and busy. I found a cool place. It's an island called Ko Lanta. I am staying right on the beach in a bamboo bungalow with a fan ( No A/C ), no TV and no hot water - not like any of that is really needed- all for $10 per night. Plus there is fantastic snorkeling right off the beach. It has a nice chill bar. The whole place is a garden, everything is built of bamboo or drift wood. Really cool. Got here last night after a 5 hour minivan ride that included 2 ferries. Went diving to Ka Haa today. It was really nice. We saw like 5 giant morrey eels, lion fish, scorpion fish, octopus, sea slugs, lobster and assortment of fish. Dove ... read more
