Hello fellow bloggers! After a 45 minute flight from Ko Samui to Krabi on Bangkok Airways, we travelled by van to the peer crossing and then over to Lanta on two short ferry rides. A few minutes drive and we arrive at Lanta Garden Hill Resort, our destination for the next three weeks. Right away we notice the climate - very hot, dry and clear. Perfect for beach living! No sign of rain here and averaging 34 - 40 degrees everyday. The pools, ocean and umbrellas on the beach keep us cool and relaxed. Within a few days, I was swimming and bathing with a gigantic elephant! Yikes, this was quite the experience never to forget. Some Thai friends that we met last time invited us to go along with them to the south of the ... read more

It’s been a long time since I last wrote and told you all how I was doing... but there has been a good reason (ish!) for my slack blogging skills – i’ve not been travelling! Let me explain. I arrived on Koh Lanta at the end of November and since then have not budged. In fact I have been on Koh Lanta now for 80 days... and I love it here. When I last wrote I had just arrived with Jason (more about Jason later) and we did a few touristy things before he left and I started my dive master training. Well I am now a PADI certified dive master and have been working as a freelance dive master on Koh Lanta for the past few weeks. I have loved every minute spent under water. ... read more

Hello from Ko Lanta! We arrived to the laid back island of Ko Lanta yesterday morning and we were pretty sure we had found paradise....well for the first 8 hours or so we had. And then I met my 1st thai cockroach....in our room....which fell out of the aircon unit when I turned it on....which I was standing right underneath. Needless to say I was a bit traumatized. This led to Geoffrey chasing it around with a flashlight only to discover it had friends. He managed (with very little help from me as I was hiding in the bathroom) to get 2 of them out of our room. The cockroach wrangling led to the discovery of many gecko's in the room as well which strangely enough I have no problem with. Any hoo, all this cockroach ... read more

Hey guys!!! Happy New Year!!! So sorry were behind weve been busy having too much fun!! OK so we bounded the taxi shuttle back to the pier for our trip to Koh Lanta, apparently the most up and coming island here. The Ferry over was lovely and warm and we made our way to the front so I could get some bathing in, Paulie was laughing at me as I threw dirty looks all around as people got in my space, dont these people know that its MY boat?? haha. 5 minutes from Koh Lanta and the dark clouds started to ascend.. noooooo!!! It would clear up, of course it would. As we docked it was absolutely throwing it down!! Wed ducked into a cafe and unfolded the map of Koh Lanta we'd just picked up. ... read more

Last blog from this trip. We have already returned home to a very cold and snowy Sweden and have returned to both work and school here. Hard to make a conclusion when it still feels like most of me is still there (and the other part can't wait to go back :)) We had a great time for sure and met a lot of wonderful people during our stay that are now part of the memories we always will carry with us. I'd like to thank each and everyone that we got to know again. You all made these months very very special for us. May you have peace and happiness in you lives. Sincerly Casparis... read more

Ok, so it’s kind of becoming a weird tradition now that whenever we are going somewhere we end up spending the night in an airport and guess what…our Christmas trip away starts with an overnighter in Bangkok’s airport! We will warn you now, this is quite a long blog as we had a very, let us say, eventfultime with transport on this Thailand trip. About the panorama...it makes the beach look like we are on a tiny, deserted island, which we weren't - for some reason it distorted as we stitched it together and looks a bit strange. Can we have an A for effort though? Our entertainment for the evening was taken care of almost immediately by some Italian tourists who didn’t speak English trying to order their sandwiches at the newly opened airport Subway. ... read more

The first island we decided to visit for 2 days was Koh Lanta. Unfortunately when we arrived it didn’t get off to the best start as the bungalow we had booked had a swarming mass of flies on the porch and a tangy smell of sewage inside, just lovely! After kicking up a fuss we managed to get swapped to another bungalow. We spent of our time here lazing on the beach (like Koh Chang again!). This was a slightly different run-up to Christmas than we were used to – don’t hate us too much! Koh Lanta was another postcard type island with long sandy beaches and it was pretty hard not to soak up the sun! On our second night we experienced rain for the first time since we had left Scotland (poor us eh). ... read more

Back to the start Another month has passed now and time has come to start to wrap up our belongings and relations here on Koh Lanta. I am back to birds again after a short break, we have moved to a new hotel and it's closer to the beaches and the north-eastern peak of Koh Lanta, that could be one reason as well :) So now we are just relaxing and enjoying the last weeks here. As before I have a lot of pictures but not so much to write about. Love and happiness ... read more

Well Koh Lanta is proving to be everything i hoped! .. well almost everything (i'll get to that in a minute!) I have got my little place which is great - good location, clean, internet, tv, fridge .. but no sink weirdly?! - typically Thai; they must have forgotten to put one in !!.. so i have a bucket instead!! The dive mster training is great. Hard work.. up at 6.30 when i'm on the boat .. 5.30 when its a Hin Daeng day (that's when we see the Manta's though, so it's worth it!) .. but i love it. Blue Planet Divers is proving to be the perfect place to do this course. I passed all my theory exams (including physics!) which was, quite frankly, a miracle! and now i'm doing all the practical stuff... ... read more

We took the speed boat from Phi Phi and got to sunbath on the top deck the whole way as we enjoyed another day of beautiful sunshine. After an hour and a half we arrived at Koh Lanta pier and jumped in our free transport to our hotel right on Klong Nin Beach, which was apparently the nicest beach on the island according to the tour operator. It didn't quite live up to its billing but was nice enough for a sunbathe. We also went in the sea briefly to jump into the surprising large waves which were crashing close to the shore. There wasn't much life around our hotel, so we literally just soaked up the sun for a few hours had some tea at the hotel and had a quiet night in. As the ... read more
