Sista dagarna i Thailand... På Koh Lanta fastnade vi på Lanta family Resort. Inget fel med det för det var ett underbart ställe, men hade inte Erics storslagna solsveda satt in parallellt med Karins repris på thailandsmagen hade v i sökt oss söderut på ön för ett lite mer öde place med Anders och Emelie.Sista dagen tog vi oss dock alla i kragen och anlitade Farouk tuk-tuk service en heldag till Lantas södra udde där vi fick både en djungelvandring med apfika (alltså fika med hungriga apor hängande över axeln, där en och annan bordsgranne blev bestulen på sin lunch av de små gynnarna). Koh Lanta We reached Koh Lanta late on Thursday January 12th. After seeing Lindsay off on our boat from Koh Yao Yai to Krabi, who was headed back to the states via Bangkok, we took a car from Krabi for 3 hours to get to Koh Lanta. We were staying at Baan Rao Bed & Breakfast, which we found through airbnb.com. It was a challenge to find the B&B in the dark, but with a little cell phone back and forth and a flashlight we soon found it. We were welcomed warmly by Aruna & Chai, and their little son Shaan, who run the B&B. To anyone visiting the island, we recommend staying at Baan Rao! They set us off with a flashlight and a hand-drawn map of recommended local restuarants. We had a great meal ... read more

Well the day had finally arrived! And no we don't mean Christmas.... The Sock had arrived in Thailand! (Mike for everyone who doesn't know him, and of course he didn't come alone, Kari too!) Mike and Kari arrived from Vancouver via LA, Bangkok, Krabi and then finally Koh Lanta on the afternoon Christmas Eve. And Christmas Eve being the bigger celebration than Christmas Day itself, preparations were in full swing at La Lanta. Still didn't really feel like Christmas but I am sure we can get into the swing of things! The resort put on a huge buffet filled with Thai specialties, alongside a couple roast turkeys, salads and probably every kind of seafood you could imagine. It was amazing. So, after crazy travel agent lady shouting at us and sitting waiting until 10:15am for our minibus to turn up, it finally did. The problem was it was pretty full when it collected the three of us and the idiot driver tried to cram us onto the back two seats which had absolutely no leg room. After we climbed over to the seats in front of us and the driver consulted his list several more times, we proceeded to drive around Krabi Town (3 times), picking more people up and ending up back at the hotel next door to ours…it was really weird! Das war ein Endspurt sondergleichen: Nachdem ich Samstag Abend fuer die Nachtschicht eingeteilt war, habe ich direkt danach auch noch gleich die Fruehschicht bis Sonntagmittag um 13.00 Uhr uebernommen. Einmal mehr ist Nachts an Schlaf nicht wirklich zu denken; neben den "normalen" Patienten sind 15 bereits sterilisierte oder noch zu sterilisierende Katzen auf Station. Da Tiere wie Menschen vor Narkosen keine Nahrung zu sich nehmen duerfen (Gefahr des Erbrechens), knurrt der Katzenmagen nach dem Aufwachen natuerlich umso lauter. Bedeutet: Mr. Handy-Man fuettert die halbe Nacht durch hungrige Busis. Zudem wurde am Abend ein aussergewoehnlicher Fall eingeliefert; einem Kater wurde vermutlich in einem Katzen-Kampf ein Auge aus dem Kopf gerissen. Das Ding haengt also da und bewegt sich immer noch. Nun gut, Morgen frueh wird Doktor Tey das Auge entfernen, der Kleine kommt auf jeden Fall durch. ... read more
