We had an early start today as we began our journey to Koh Lanta. After saying our goodbyes to the Americans, which we had grown so close to, we decided to welcome Scotty back into the group (reluctantly). What we believed to be an hour and a half trip turned into a 5 hour mission that involved every form of transport vehicle you can imagine! This only added to our already irritable moods due to be being promised white sandy beaches, blue skies and sunshine, but this was replaced with nothing short of Hurricane Katrina!! The evening was better however, as Luke, Mike and Scott found some better accomodation for the next couple of days whilst Al preferred to keep in the dry and catch up on some sleep. We purchased some budget alcohol (big mistake) ... read more

After moving rooms this morning, we did our first washing of the trip - say 'we', in reality it was the laundry service at our hostel! After deciding to hire bikes for the day we headed out to explore the full beauty of Koh Lanta and its scenery and it didn't dissapoint. We visited the old harbour town and drove through some of its more run down area's that were clearly still trying to recover from the Tsunami that hit in 2006. We managed to stop off at some stunning viewpoints and took a few pictures on a rooftop restaurant which will be uploaded very soon. All in all, it turned out to be a really good day. As we are writing this entry we have just met a german backpacker who we have invited to ... read more

For our last night in railay we moved our things to stay at cabanas, the rasta run bar and bungalows in the jungle. its definitely one of my favourite places we've stayed, basic bungalows but the vibe is so chilled out, all the travellers sit around the bonfire listening to bob marley and chilling all night! we heard that a lot of backpackers stay at tonsai beach, which you can only reach by longboat or a half hour trek through the jungle, so we decided to check it out. somehow the six of us ended up falling asleep for the afternoon (tired from elephant trekking in the morning) so when we woke it was dark! still, after some more pad thai we were pretty sure we could still make it in the dark. now if ... read more

We had a really good night tonight, it was our last night with the Americans, we opted against a night of drinking due to early starts. Instead we decided to invest in a torch and head to Tonsai beach which can only be accessed by a 30 minute trek through the surrounding jungle...one of the more scary experiences so far! It was only when we got back and sat around the campfire chilling to Bob Marley's greatest hits, that we were told about the Cobra's that marshalled the jungle. Needless to say we will not be trekking any more jungles in a hurry. This is our last night in Railay, we head for Koh Lanta in the morning, shouldn't be too much of a stressful journey. Write soon, Love D.F x... read more

Back To Koh Lanta On our way back to Lanta, I got chatting to some South African ladies who were sharing our minibus, and were heading to lanta for just one night away from their travel buddies. We chatted about Oasis Sunset and suggested they come for a drink...which they did, and so our first night back on lanta saw us drinking cocktails with our new friends, and Graeme's mum Ann. It was soon to be the grand opening party, and once again we lent a hand with preparations for bands, fire shows, music etc Graeme made it back from his job on the oil rigs with only a day to spare...just enough time to help with the outside lighting. Ae's family turned up en mass from their village up north, and we enjoyed several very ... read more

So Trevor (Me) is starting first.... So last night I couldn't sleep while my darling wife fell asleep to the movie we were watching on my iphone in 5 min as per the usual. So, I stayed up and watched the whole movie then did some reading. Then I heard some bag rustling.... then again, I am like oh no a mouse or worse a rat, if im lucky a cockroach got into something we left in one of our shopping bags. So I get my headlamp and creep towards the bag, open it up, and there is a gecko about as long as my middle finger chomping down on one of oreos (vanilla cookie with a chocolate centre), so I left one out for the little guy (he eats bugs most of the time after ... read more

Hi Everyone! Yesterday was a long travel day from Koh Phangnan to Koh Lanta. Our day started really early. We had arranged a ride to the ferry pier from Bottle Beach at 6am, but I think they kind-of forgot about us, so we had a late start. When there's no one in the back of the truck they can make really good time on the mountain roads. It had been raining all night and was still raining, so I think the roads were in even worse shape than the other day we went to town. We made it just in time for our ferry. The ocean was pretty rough, so the ride was a little bumpy until after the ferry left Koh Samui. We arrived at Suratthani on the mainland, then had to catch the next ... read more

Ko Lanta - Via Bangkok Missing the beaches terribly, we decided to leave lovely Pai and head south, back to Lanta to swim, and more importantly to help Ae with last minute restaurant missions. It was a very very long journey! With Steve along for the ride too(the girls booked their own van), we first took a minibus from Pai to Chang Mai....having it all to ourselves was both a suprise and a pleasure... normally these little vans are chock a block full with farang and rucksacks. The three hour journey back through the winding hills was great!. Next a quick change in Chiang Mai, just enough time for a bite to eat before getting the overnight bus to Bangkok. We arrived at about 5.30am the next morning, and stumbled into Ko San road looking for ... read more
