Enjoying our stay in Pattaya, we were going to get a bus from Ekkamai bus station in bangkok buy after we worked out how much it would cost for a cab from Furama Asoke Hotel to Ekkamia bus station, then 113baht each for the bus fare, then a songthaew fare from Pattaya bus station to Areca Lodge Hotel, it was more convenient to get a cab from Furama Asoke straight to Areca Lodge & easier than hauling our luggage around. It cost 1500 baht for the cab from door to door. Furama let us leave 2 suitcases at their hotel till next Saturday, even though we're not going back to them as we had already booked Grand President which is close by so will pick them up on the way back. Areca Lodge is right in ... read more

My 15th visit to Thailand was in April/May and it was very hot and very wet because of the Songkran water festival. I rented a condo in Pattaya and spent my holiday travelling between Pattaya and Bangkok. It was too hot to go up country, only an excuse, maybe I am getting lazy to take the long bus or car trips. I will save that for when I return in September and hopefully see some new waterfalls and go white water rafting in rainy season. Songkran is a fun time to be in Thailand and I experienced the festival in Khao San and Silom Roads Bangkok and also Pattaya. There were also Isaan Concerts in Pattaya and a great birthday party BBQ just before I returned home. Kop khun khrap - Thank you Sawatdee khrap - ... read more

Day Five Today we hired a scooter from the hostel where we were staying – it was a bit of a shitbox beast of a scooter, but we managed to get it going, and it was big enough to carry both of us. We grabbed a map and starting hooning all around the Pattaya and Jomtien Beach areas, for a bit of a look – it was great to have our own transport so that we could do whatever we wanted. Vaughan got the hang of the traffic rules (or lack of), and we ventured up the steepest hill we could find to King Rama IX Royal Park, for a look at the view back over Jomtien Beach and the surrounding areas. Yet another giant Buddha statue greeted us at the top of the steps, and ... read more

Je me décide enfin.

Sunday 6th February A very short blog for a change. We are gob smacked at the high quality of the departure lounge at Koh Samui. Free buffet, free internet and Satellite Tv all comes complimentary plus theres the added bonus of comfortable sofas and chairs. Now we know why the call Bangkok Airways the 'Boutique Airline'. Our flight takes us two hours over to Pattaya where we are met by our taxi driver than my cousin has kiondly arranged for us. We have a giggle at the drivers large bit of paper that he's holding up in Arrivals 'Leon Prant'... Forty minutes later after some serious traffic jams we finally arrive at Gary and Dang's apartment which is a gorgeous 6th floor flat overlooking the city. We are shattered due to the earlier start but still ... read more

I spent a couple of days in Phetburi on the way back up the coast where I went to see a little cave temple just out of town, and also went up to the top of the hill in town via cable car where you can see a couple more temples, a pagoda, and an old home. After that I went straight to Pattaya to meet up with Paul, his girlfriend Rin, and a few of his mates that I know from back home. Also I met up with Marcus and his family for dinner, an ex-workmate who now works over here. Pattaya is a very big town with the most bars I have ever seen in one place, which makes it a huge party town. The great thing about having so many tourists and ex-pats ... read more

On Dec. 5 we said farewell to Cambodia and flew into Bangkok, Thailand, then took a bus to Pattaya. We had heard a lot about it, but turns out to be great if you are into the bar scene, or you are a single old man looking for companionship. We had booked our hotel for a week, so decided to turn a blind eye and just make the best of it. We enjoyed walking along the great sea-wall, and generally exploring the area. We did the usual city tour of temples and points of interest, helps to get the lay of the land. Then, someone suggested we visit the Sanctuary of Truth, and we're glad we did. Sanctuary of Truth. The fine weather in Ko Samui was also present in Pattaya when we landed at the airport on Sunday 14th November. The temperature was a scorching 33 degrees and we were pleased to see Dad when he came to pick us up and take us for a lovely sushi lunch in Pattaya. I managed to indulge in another couple of my favourite Fuji restaurant coconut shakes and we also came a cropper of one of the stranger Thai laws. Regulations state that you cannot purchase alcohol in a shop between the hours of 2pm and 5pm. Unless of course, you are buying 10 litres or more of alcohol, in which case it's fine! Once we had unpacked, I made a guest performance for the football team Dad plays 8-a-side for on a Sunday night. The less ... read more

Following our fanatstic time in Bangkok, we were soon back in Pattaya and embarked on what I can only describe as a week of indulging in the seven deadly sins! -Sloth (lots of staying in bed very late). -Gluttony (leaving the flat to overindulge in Thai food.) -Greed (eating desserts and snacks when we were already full to the brim.) -Lust (a visit to a go go bar or two - although when I explain what we saw, you will see that it probably wasn't lust, just curiousity!) -Envy (Rachel was very jealous of how good the ladyboys looked!) -Pride (I was proud of receiving a Blogger of the Week nomination from the people of TravelBlog where I post these blogs) -Wrath (Rachel directed her wrath at herself for getting drunk one evening and feeling terible ... read more
