Ok, the day to leave Vietnam!! I think the taxi driver that I got was totally off his face when he was driving me to the airport, scary..... Firstly when I got to the taxi he wasn’t there, he was off visiting a shop nearby. When he came back he couldn’t quite work out how to get the car out from behind another one, not a very good start!! As we were driving along he must have stalled the car 5 times, everytime we stopped at the traffic lights he stalled. Not used to a manual I am sure, as we were slowing down I felt like shouting “change gears, you are going to stall” but what is the point, may as well just sit back and enjoy the view. So we stop at a set ... read more

It was my lovely friend Ciaras birthday this week and we decided to head to Pattaya to celebrate. We all only had saturday and sunday off work so we wanted somewhere not too far and as we had been to Bangkok loads we thought we could go to Pattaya, back to where it all began (we all met on orientation in pattaya!). I got the 13 hour overnight bus down on friday night and arrived feeling anything but fresh on saturday morning at 7am. we got a tuk tuk from the bus station to jomtien beach (the nice part of pattaya) and met the girls at the hotel. On the drive we saw the effects of the morning after in pattaya.. theres a reason the place is called 'the seedy underbelly' of thailand. The place was ... read more

Arrived in Pattaya on Friday (15/2) after a short flight and the fastest taxi ride I have ever taken, Ayrton senna's not dead, he has just gone into hiding and is driving a taxi from Bangkok to Pattaya in record time. The Taxi ride should take about an hour and a half, we made it in an hour, ten. Mostly at speeds of 140klms with no rear suspension. The DusitThani resort is luxury, perfect for the end of the trip. We did not even leave the resort until the second night, there's simply no need. The resort offers way to much to see in 3 days, we have managed to make it as far as the pool the last two days. The swim up bar is popular with us both, along with the table service. In ... read more

When I went to Pattaya, I went there to meet up with my Danish friend, Bo, and to celebrate NYE there. The plan was to celebrate it with Bo's brother and sister in law, who lives there, but she delievered her baby on the day, I arrived, so we wnt out on our own instead. And the Thai people really know how to party. We watched some women outside a bar getting really exited by pllaying with firework. And at midnight we saw a lot of really nice firework. their official firework is so much more beautiful than the firework, we have in Denmark. Later on we found a bar at Walkingstreet, where we had a few beers, talked to a ladyboy and watched the people celebrate NYE in the streets. One of the other nights ... read more

So this years trip has been underway for just over a week now and i still have no real idea what I'm doing. Advance planning was never my strong point but this year its stretched as far as booking a flight to Bangkok and a taxi ride down to the beach at Pattaya. I have some vague plans about heading south to through Malasia to Singapore or maybe Vietnam via Cambodia. Also gave some thought to flying to South Korea with a stop in Hong Kong. But apart from those very rough ideas its pretty much make it up as I go along. So what can I tell you about Pattaya, well not very much really its a hot, busy neon lit strip of bars, massage palours, go go clubs, food stalls, more bars and even ... read more

So after a week of anxiously waiting on Thursday afternoon they finally decided to tell us where we were to be based and which school we would be teaching in. One by one we all nervously went up to collect our school information pack and I found out I was based in a small village in Central Thailand. As everyone found out who was going to be with or near to them and I couldn’t find anyone who was based in the same town I started to get worried, my worst fears were then confirmed when I found out I was to be the only English speaking person in this little village in the middle of nowhere. After near heart failure and a few tears I decided I had to go and speak to the director, ... read more

Flying out to Thailand was without a doubt the scariest thing I have ever had to do, I hadn’t been particularly nervous or excited in the run up to it but the night before as I said bye to my best friends, sister and niece I became an emotional wreck and the nerves kicked in, what the hell was I doing?! Saying bye to my parents at the airport was hard and I was so nervous all the way there, when we finally got there and checked into our hotel close to Bangkok airport I was still a nervous wreck but after a tearful phonecall home I decided to just try and enjoy it and if I hated it then I could always go home. After a few hours bus drive, meeting loads of new people ... read more

After flying into bangkok from Udon Thani we went straight to the bus terminal at the airport to get a bus to pattaya. The trip costs around 130 baht & takes around 2 hours. The buses are air conditioned & have plenty of leg space. We stayed at Jomtien Furama at jomtien beach which is south of central Pattaya where it all happens!!! Its a lovely hotel very good amenities but a bit far out from the shops & nightlife though you can get a songthaew there with little effort & for 20 baht but its hard to get one back, especialyy at night unless you're willing to pay.The beaches at Jomtien are quieter than at Pattaya & in the evenings especially at weekends many thais have picnics on the beach away from the sun.
