Up early again for more adventure! Today we're heading to Ko Samet, an island just south of Bangkok by a few hours. We were "picked up" by a guy on a motorbike around 7:45. We could either attempt to climb on with our bags... or we could follow him to our bus. We chose the latter. Our four hour bus ride took 5, but then we were almost there with only a boat ride to go. To get on our boat we had to climb on and through two other boats (up, down, through, up, over, down, through, up and over...) and then ended up balancing on the side of the boat as it pulled away and they were still making room for us in the lower part of the boat. All of this while wearing ... read more

Upon arrival we made our way to the station with information about lodging. A nice ladyboy was as helpful as can be with our quest. Why we hadn't booked ahead I'm not sure of, but finding a place within our budget for a weekend was a bit difficult. We finally picked a place that cost a bit more than we wanted, figuring we could find a cheaper place in a few days and get a change of scenery out of the deal. Off to our guest house we rode in the typical island taxi: the back of a green pick-up truck. At the guest house we ended up not with one room, but two, because the only thing they said they had for 3 people only had one large bed in it. They were confused by ... read more

First off, I'd like to appologize for not blogging in a couple of weeks, but in my defense I've been having such an action packed time that I haven't really gotten the opportunity. I'm going to write several blogs, each about a particular location I have been at, starting with Koh Samet. The journey to Koh Samet started in the mini-bus from Bangkok. On the ride I met a girl from Ireland and a guy from Italy, who I would end up hanging out with for the majority of my time on Koh Samet. The girl had been travelling in Vietnam and Thailand, and while nice, was a bit of a downer. The guy from Italy however, was halarious and had some great travelling stories, as he had been on the road for the last 6 ... read more

We've been a little lazy with the blog lately so thought we'd take a little time on Christmas Eve to catch up... The day after the last blog was a day we'd been looking forward to the whole trip when we were to go to Angkor Wat - the largest religious site in the world. Up in time for sun rise (4.30am to be precise) was not an easy task, made worse by the fact that our driver was still asleep on the hostel floor while we were waiting outside for him. When we finally got going it was a bit of a mad dash to get there before the sun came up, thankfully we made it just in time. After brandishing our $20 passes to the site we were ushered through with the hundreds of ... read more

Ok, been a few days once again since I updated whats been going on,but as I said being on Koh Samet, there wasn't going to be much to write about. So as I left it we were going to get ourselves a bike and this we did, cost us 500 Baht, about 10 euro, which is quite expensive for Thai standards but we have to bear in mind that this is a national park island and things like this are going to be a bit more expensive. So, we set off, straight away we got an idea of how bad the roads ahead were going to be, or I should say lack of roads were going to be, there is literally no tarmac surface here, its all dirt track and big potholes, you can see in ... read more

Koh Samet, Ok, time to stop counting days, its depressing us watching the days clock on, so now its just location... So, as I said in my last blog its time for a bit of relaxation now, we got a taxi from our hotel just outside Baan Phe to the harbour in the town centre to catch the boat thats going to take us to the island of Koh Samet, its a National Park and there is not a lot there except sandy beaches so just the place for relaxation. We have read that its a place popular with the Thai's as its only 3 hours from Bangkok and they come here for long weekends so will be interesting to see how busy it gets. Anyway our taxi, which turns out to be the hotel taxi ... read more

Veiene her kan knapt kalles veier.

Lite ... read more

After spending the night on Khao San Road we got up and went down the street to get breakfast. Then we were to set off for Ko Samet (Samet Island!!) We knew to get to Koh Samet we needed to take a bus from the Eastern bus terminal (Ekkamai) and that the easiest way to get to the bus station was via the skytrain. So, our next mission was to get from Khao San Road to the skytrain. Since we had been ripped off by the taxi driver the previous day, we thought it might be cheaper to get Mr. K the tuk-tuk driver to take us. We found him on the street but he would have none of it, “too far”, and then referred us to a taxi driver who outright refused to turn on ... read more

We took a bus South of Bangkok to catch a boat to the Island of Ko Samet. We found a wooden hut next to the beach where we could see the sea. On the first evening we went for some food at a place called Jeps on the beach under some trees which was amazing! I've never eaten something so hot that my eyes as well as my nose were streaming, but it tasted so amazing that I kept going until it was all gone! I think I was also dribbling a bit. After going to a bar and playing some quite aggressive Connect 4, we met some lads from Hull and went to watch some fire dancers on the beach and had a few beers. On the beach there were some local people with paper ... read more
