Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin flew away. Kojak lost his lollypop, but he found a Milky Way - Oh, Jingle Belllllllllls……..…. Yes folks, Christmas comes to Singapore too - and its hit town big time judging by all the mega decko’s sprucing up most of the buildings round the city. Shaz was in a shop the other day and Shakin’ Stevens as belting out Merry Xmas Everyone! Totally bizarre in sweltering conditions such as we have here. ‘Snow is falling, all around me’ - eh, I don’t think So! Anyway - back to the travel diary. We caught a minky rattletastic bus from Malacca to Singapore on Thursday. While at the bus station we got chatting to an Aussie guy who was travelling back home to Perth with his wife. He’d been in Vietnam buying tyres ... read more

Hi Everyone!!! I can't belive we've only been away for a little amount of time, sooo much has happened already, where to start!! Right, the plane journey to Bali was horrific! the actual flight was ok and Singapore airlines are fantastic would highly recommend them! However, the whole journey to Bali took 19.5 hours! WE left Englan at 9.55 on 08/11 and got to Bali at 1pm on 11/11 so we hadn't h ad any sleep! Got the the hotel which was nice ith a nice pool and we had a sleep and some drinks and a swim! We then went out for tea, got completley lost walking around at night and had to get a taxi back to the hotel!!We then ended up in this bar near the hotel where there was the weirdest selection ... read more

Seasons greetings from Singapore! Yes that's right, bearly a few days into November and the christmas spirit has hit Singapore in a big way. An obtrusive Christmas Tree stands in front of Raffles City and Orchard Road is decorated with banners and other christmas junk. There is even a few peoples mobile phones spouting electronic christmas carols. Christmas seems to come earlier every year and as I pass through the Singapore streets I am reminded of that. The trip has come to an end now. We spent the last day in Singapore crusing around the harbour checking out the Merlion that we finally tracked down. We also saw the Singapore Arts Centre and SINGAPORE HOOTERS!!! We finnished off the trip with finally having a Singapore Sling in Raffles. It was a cranberry tasting thing, not very ... read more

Made it to Singapore on Sunday morning after a very long flight from London. Despite the fact that it was 7:30 am when we arrived it was already 26oC! It never seems to get cold here. It is hot late at night and when we woke up this morning there was condensation on the outside of the window! Spent the last 2 days exploring the city taking in some places we remembered from our last visit plus a few new places. One of the coolest building we visited was the Esplanade on the bay. It is this durian fruit inspired building that is all spiky on the roof. You could go up to the balcony and get lovely views across Singapore harbour. We could not stand about for too long though as it was so hot! ... read more

Hi folks, I left Bangkok on Wednesday morning (early!) and got a 2.5 hour flight to Singapore. As soon as I stepped out of the airport I could see the difference in the cities. Whilst Bangkok is bustling and noisy and quite dusty/dirty, Singapore feels the complete opposite; Calm, quiet and very very clean. I know a lot of people have said to me that Singapore is a little too clean, and it's laws on chewing gum, for example, are extreme in the least. (For those not in the know, you cannot chew gum in Singapore, and you can apparently be fined heavily for importing it in your luggage). Littering is also heavily fined, around 600 quid ($SD 2000) I think. Having said that, I really enjoyed my time here. I checked into my hostel upon ... read more

Russell - Well we have arrived safely at Singapore airport to wait for our connecting flight to Ho Chi Minh. It is 9:30am our time but as I am still on GMT it is actually 1:30am and I'm starting to feel it. We have a 5 hour wait here then a 2 hour flight to HCMC so I should be well and truely tired by the time I get there. The flight was pretty cool though what the security guard at Manchester airport was looking for between Lindsays breasts is still a mystery. Judging by her short hair cut it may have been nothing! Have watched 15 hours of movies so am ready to rest my eyes. More from me later.... read more

Woo-Hoo. Finally arrived in singapore after an eight hr flight. Arrived at 5 in the morning with severe thunderstorms and lightning on touch down. Didnt get stopped at all at customs, so Bin got through with all the banned stuff. After having no sleep at all through the flight we mastered the MRT, the singapore rail system. Took three interchanges to get to our hotel in the middle of the city. After lugging the backpacks around in the pouring rain we made it to the hotel only to find we were too early to check in. Killed time for a while then got some sleep. Had a great lunch at the hawker centre down the road, the food is really cheap. Bin had curry whilst I indulged in all the local delicacies. Cant wait for dinner, ... read more

SINGAPORE This is the final leg of our Singapore-Malacca-Singapore trip from October 30, 2005 to November 4, 2005. For the first 2 portions, please check my Singapore (part2) blog and Malacca blog. Friday 1. Having nowhere to go to except Orchard, we had a late breakfast, checked-out early and deposited our luggages again. 2. We went around Orchard from 11AM to past 2PM. Had lunch at the new food court at the 4th floor of Wisma Atria (unfortunately for me, it still wasn’t open the time I was there last June. We were staying at nearby Hilton and had little source of food.). After a little shopping at Wisma Atria and the Heeren for the 2006 collection of Havaianas (I went crazy!), we went back to YWCA, got our luggages and hailed a cab going to ... read more

November 4-7: Singapore This day we took a morning flight out to Singapore. It was quite a pleasant flight and I managed to watch three (awful) movies. We took the super clean and efficient (and air-conditioned) MRT subway from the airport to Chinatown and walked to our little budget hotel from there. Emboldened by several colleagues and friends who told us that it's safe to eat food from ANYWHERE in Singapore, we walked around Chinatown and had some dinner from food hawker stalls, consisting of friend and steamed wontons in soup or with noodles. Our first day there we went downtown and saw a movie that was basically the German interpretation of Spaceballs/Galaxy Quest, with a lot of unfunny gay jokes thrown in (well, it seemed like it might have been funny at the time). Then ... read more
