Ok, so back to Christmas Eve. We met some of Angels friends in Chinatown and had some dinner from the hawker stalls. I of course indulged in Nasi Goreng. After that Angel suggested we go to a gay club. The guys pretty much refused straight away, but Angel had some friends who were going to be there, so we went along anyways. The music there was awesome, the dj was damn sexy, and the guys working behind the bar were pretty cute too. Not to mention the half naked guys on the dance floor. Speaking of the dance floor, it was cover in 'snow', and bubbles were everywhere! We ended up meeting Angels friends, and made a heap of new ones while we were there. Everyone had a great time, and partied on until the club ... read more

Celebrated the New Year with Nick and his friends who we'd met in Krabi. He'd invited us to join them at their party where we paid just 10quid for free flowing alcohol & food all night...bargain! Had a brilliant night attempting Kareoke and paying for it all the next few days!! Once we'd recovered from New Year we took a day trip over to Singapore Zoo and night Safari...we got to see loads of different animals including urangutans which Sean was well chuffed about as he finally felt at home! As soon as it got dark we hopped onto the night safari bus which made us feel like we were part of Jurassic park...it took us around the lion & tiger enclosures and we got to see alot of the animals that only come out at ... read more

Got up early ready for a another big day of sightseeing. Made my way to Suntec City to catch the sightseeing bus. First stop was the Victoria Theatre and from there walked around to Raffles Landing (where Sir Raffles - the founder of Singapore) first landed, and past the Fullerton Hotel. Found a really nice irish cafe where i picked up breakfast on the go. Made my way to Boat Quay past all the brightly coloured restored shophouses, which is set against the dramatic backdrop of the office towers in Raffles Place (known as the financial district). Walked to the pier from where the river cruise departed from. The river boat is similar to the original boats used to cargo goods up and down the singapore river. Thankfully it had a canopy to screen out the ... read more

Awoke early and met up with one of my colleagues, an irish girl named Elaine. We walked down to Suntec City which is a massive complex, including a hotel, shopping mall and convention centre, to catch the hop on, hop off sightseeing bus. Our first stop was Little India where the sights and smells made it hard to believe you were actually in Singapore. Had a look around the little india arcade at the many stalls selling spices, fabrics, garlands of jasmine flowers (for use in the Hindu Temples) and various other handicrafts. Made the mistake of going to Tekka Mall which is a 6 storey shopping complex, most of it junk. Whatever you do, don't go to the basement supermarket. We weren't even off the escalator before the stenching smell of fish guts hit us. ... read more

Generally most of our trips are layovers for 24 hours, so i was fortunate to get a trip to Singapore for 3 days. I arrived in the morning and was so buggered, had to have a little nap before going out to Raffles City Shopping Mall in the afternoon. Had a look round at the shops, had something to eat, bought a few more travel guides to add to my vastly growing collection. Met up in the evening with another crew member, a really nice irish girl to go and get something to eat. We were fortunate enough that our hotel is in such a great location, opposite Chijmes which is a large complex of restaurants and bars suited to all tastes and next to the famous Raffles Hotel (Singapore's most famous landmark). We went to ... read more

After leaving Vietnam, I arrived in Singapore. I went to my hotel, which is next to Clarke Quay, which is great considering I landed on my birthday, and wouldnt need to stumble back too far after a night out partying! My friend Suhanna came out to my hotel that evening and we went to Clarke Quay. We met up with an American friend of hers called Marty. He is American, but was just visiting for the weekend from Japan, which is where he is based at the moment, as he is in the armed forces. Since it was my birthday, and my first night in Singapore, we decided to make it a big one. We went to a club, which served some of the strongest vodkas I had ever had, and just went wild. There was ... read more

So, Melissa and I missed our flight out of San Francisco on Thursday (my fault). Fortunately, United was able to book us on another flight the next day (Dec 23); unfortunately, it is the routing from hell. Right now, we're in Singapore - 27 hours into our 33 hour journey. Our first stop was in Shanghai, where Melissa feigned illness to avoid going into town during our 4.5 hour layover. Under interrogation, she finally admitted that she is partial to airport food and preferred it to an authentic Shanghai-style dinner in the city. Our flight into Singapore was fun. The pilot was enjoying landing in a thunderstorm so much that he decided to try it twice. The first time he pressed the throttle to full blast when we were only five hundred feet from the ground, ... read more
