Well we have arrived. 21 hours and three countries later we finally are here. We're staying at a hostel in the Little India district, lots of temples and mosques (hindu, buddhist, muslim etc. ) But at every corner there are food vendors and lots of english speaking people. Also, lots of vegetarian food, who knew? We're sure glad it was the first place we've stopped at, makes the buses and subway alot less confusing. So far we've only touched on Singapore, with only Little india under our belts. In the coming days we're going to hit , Little China and some of the other ethnic districs. We managed to find the 14 story national library in our random trekking through streets in our area. Although we really are a minority here, it really hasn't felt like ... read more

December 26 to Jan 5 So my New Years resolution for next will be: 'Avoid getting thrown up on next New Years Eve.' What a way to ring in the new year huh? Into Singapore to get my visa for India, after hightailing it to the Indian embassy I received the high inquisition, I must look way too shady. "What do you want to do in India for three months," "Why are you going there, its too long," "You can only have a one month visa, these passport photos wont work, get new ones" I ask what wrong with them, "No, get new ones" What should have been a straight forward 6 month visa over a couple of business days turned into lots of stare offs, my feeble attempts at charm and an 8 day wait ... read more

Tomorrow I will finally leave Singapore after working here for the last 4 months. In the morning I'll be taking a bus up to Malaca and then to Kuala Lumpur. At the last minute a friend of mine invited me to go to Manila and I've decided to take him up on it, but all the flights from Singapore are booked so Ill be flying AirAsia from KL, then continuing up to Thailand and hopefully to Hanoi. It's been an interesting four months here in Singapore helping a new company start up. It easy to not really appreciate Singapore if one hasnt been to other countries in the area, but really it extremely impressive what they have been able to accomplish in just the 40 years they have been independent from Malaysia (and before that from ... read more

Got the dodgy cable car up the hill style mountain to get good views ower the city and harbour. Apparently seven people died on this contraption in 1983 when a boat mast took out the cables. Anyway the death defying trip was worth it, will upload pics one day. Then over to the island to try the Carlsberg Skytower advertising "probably the best views of Singapore". They were good, although we had to wait for the thunder storm and mist to clear before we went on. We returned to the brewhouse to try some more of their beers, although later in the day prices go up to central london style prices and beyond! Had some dinner and found a cool little outside bar to have a nightcap. ... read more

We had breakfast in China Town loads of dim sum and jasmine tea. Wondered around for a bit and I got caught by a tailor, who tried to sell me a cashmere/silk suit for $1400, by the time I left he was offering $400 or $200 for trousers and a shirt and he'd send the jacket at a later date if I wanted it. He measured me up and the b*****d said I had a 39.5 in waist. I know he was lying, cause I'm writing this quite comfterably in 36in trousers. Then we went up to the Riverside, where we found the Brewerkz brewhouse, had a couple of pints at around 1.10 pound sterling (this keyboard don't ahve a pound sterling sign!) and then walked around the Clarkes Quay/Boat Quay which is all restraunts and ... read more

I just arrived in Singapore. It is very hot here. We are in an air-conditioned airport. We have not stepped outside yet. We are waiting for the free tour of Singapore so I have an hour to kill. We took Singapore Airlines here. The plane was very nice inside, but not very roomy for an 18 hour flight! They did have individual screens for each seat, and you can choose from a long list of movies, play some video games (there were like 50 to choose from), listen to music, watch news etc. So that really made the plane ride go by faster. Also, if you are curious about where you are while in the plane, they have a GPS tracker type option that tells you where you are, what elevation you are flying at, what ... read more

After gettting to our hotel (fairly posh place it was) we travelled accross a main road, with lots of traffic and some sort of foreign style crossing, to a food centre. I had wonton soup and amy had some sort of dumplings. There are hundreds of these food centres around and we had dinner in another one, they are quite dodgy, but the food is very local. We ate dinner with beer for under a tenner and thaat was with me ahving two main courses! During the day we wondered around the area near the hotel and Little India (which is a bit delapidated and smells weird). And that was it, went to bed.... read more
