Hi all, Hope ur all doing well, Well yesterday was one of the longest of my life, we jumped on the Qantas flight about 10pm after Cam's folks dropped us off at the airport, a quick fairly smooth 7 hour fight with a bit of sleep here and there and suddenly we are in Singapore.............. (and yes we all had our own TV screens in front of us.. go Technology) At 4am ....... Singapore has a fantastic metro system, but unfortunatly it didn't open until 6am, so 2 hours of coffees and wandering the airport terminal until the ride into town was possible. Once we entered downtown we found a clean and neat backpackers to the centre of town (City Hall station) dumped our gear and took off exploring, the rapid transport system here is just ... read more

Well we are here in Singapore. We have been here for 2 days and seen quite a lot. Our fist day seemed to last for about 3 days, because of the long flights and we seemed to do so much. Singapore is clean, safe and incredibly easy to get around. We have been catching the MRT which is the train system. It is brilliant, the best I have used anywhere. You are never waiting more than 5 minutes for a train and the ticketing system is awesome. We have been to all the major sights. Raffles, Harbour Front, Sentosa Island, China Town and Little India. The market at Little India was great, so full of colour and interesting shop owners. We also took a trip out to Changi Prison Museum. We tried to see the original ... read more

ok i'll start wuith the good stuff and finish off with the cack, the funniest thing that has probably ever happened to me happened at the singapore/maylasia border, i rock up to the counter hand over my passport and the woman looks at it (names surname;forename) then she looks up totally serious and comes out woth this beautie "Your farther he is chinese?" "no lee is my first name" i was pissing myself if it wasn't for the western skin the western eye's, hair, height (not to much of that) i had to run off short of being denied entry for laughing in her face! so i wander down to the old coach and start thinking how cool it would be if i met a model, this is after 7 hours on a coach so my ... read more

After arriving in the middle of the night we woke very early Singapore time. We have had a great time, having a look around. On the first day we started with a river boat ride, which was great. We then went to soo many malls, making good use of the train system. We are like pros now!! It has been very hot, & we have been making good use of the hotel swimming pool. That night we headed off to the Night Safari at the Zoo. This turned out to be a bit of a mission. We thought that we'd save some money by not going with the tour guide. So instead of $28 and an hour later, it turned out to be 1 hour on the train, 20 minutes waiting for a bus, then a ... read more

Continuing the post-Rita catching up with my blog. This entry is beginning Wednesday, 21 September. After a quick ride into the city, I’m dropped off at the Conrad Centennial Singapore. Conrad is Hilton’s “high end” brand. This is my first stay in one. Stylish and elegant. Like everything I’ve seen so far, spotlessly clean. I ask one of the porters if the hotel is new - he says no, “It’s nine years old.” I’m shocked - it does not look any older than a year at best. Try to check in. Wham - my first introduction to Asian service and hospitality standards. By all rights the Conrad didn’t need to let me check in until 14.00 or 15.00; instead three people are taking me up to the Concierge Lounge, getting me coffee, and very efficiently finding ... read more

I have seen the future, a giant shopping mall interconnecting small residential enclaves, parks and roads. The mall reaches in every direction, polished floors gleam, shop fronts sparkle, a temple to consumerism, every need and desire can be met by the purchase of a 40inch plasma screen TV or a computer so smart it doesn't need an operator. The streets, those that are not part of the mega-mall-opilis are clean, empty of all but traffic which flows orderly, controlled by lights indicating lane and speed. People are well behaved, come from many different ethnic origins, speak in a variety of tongues but share a common language in English. The future is controlled, everything is legislated for, government departments encourage breeding of the people through the SDU (Social Development Unit). In certain places; no food or drink ... read more

There's something about ice cream. Haagen Daas is great (really great in fac t) but really there many viable options here. I have sampled about 9 (hahahaha) of them so far...macadamia nut ripple in a green container thingy is the best so far...but we are a long way from claiming to have tasted it all... I am going to have to run my little butt off to work this stuff off! Went to Orchard road (the main shopping street) last night. Had a Rice burger (!) for dinner, it's essentially the same as a normal burger - just made out of rice. I had to. It rained (which only served to heat things up a wee bit. The fashion is cool, but this sign at Changi is even cooler; 'Please, to assist security, without being asked ... read more

Second posting on sunday night... Have spent an awesome day being shown around singapore by Stevo. Had such a good time, went to an open air 'locals' place for lunch, had dumplings and this stunning noodle soup and sampled some of Steves stuff. The place we had lunch at was really simple, i had a sugar cane drink, fried dumplings. It was a cool place and the variety of food on offer was staggering. Saw the LAI team at the Slam 'n Jam champs, photos and handshakes and we were off again. Went on the MRF (?), train just as the locals do and went to about a million malls (these guys KNOW how to shop!) and just saw and experienced everything. You could loose yourself in this place so easily, there is so much to ... read more

Singapore: Sept. 24-30 Singapore is a beautiful city with state-of-the-art architecture, the best of the Western world and Eastern world and a wonderful multicultural mix. Due to the diversity of the people, English is the language chosen to communicate among themselves making it incredibly easy to travel in. The city is incredibly clean due to strict littering laws and you’ve never wanted to chew gum more than where they cane you for doing so. Between getting over jet lag which hits you harder than you would think, especially Zachary who doesn’t quite grasp the concept of time yet and keeps waking up at 4 am, and the airline losing our stroller and my backpack (luckily full of dirty laundry), we spent our week there touring the cultural centres of the city – Little India, Chinatown, ... read more
