hey guys well im back in thamel this weekend booking my flight to phokara, its costing us $108.16 US. which isnt too bad, its 20 dollars cheaper than anything else we could get so im happy. other than that we are staying at Bouda, a buddist stupa. its really amazing.its really calm and peacfull there. we have found a little cafe where the westerners hang out. its good to find these places because thats where you can eat meat. last night i had grilled chicked with mango salsa, potatos, beans, carrots and salad. it was soo good. i ate everything. As you can tell i get really excited about what i eat when it doesnt involve rice and soup. but this stupa is huge. it about 20m in diameter and its like 3 storeys tall. its ... read more

Namaste! Finally some time to update this blog! Just back from Fishling and Pokhara, one week relaxing, and showing our friends some more of Nepal! In the OHC (www.orphanhelpcenter.org) things are going great! After Biba left, Anandi took over the whole thing, and she is doing a good job! She is just such a sweet lady too! We took the kids for an ‘internet class’, so from now on, volunteers can keep contact with them! And the whole homework situation is getting much better; we split them up in 2 groups, and are trying to help as much as possible with the difficulties! Things are going so great there, that I’m going to visit some more projects next week, see if there is any place where I can help a bit! We will see, because our ... read more

Hi all, long time no blog. First we got on very small row/sail boats down the ganges. The group had three boats (four people per boat) and one kitchen boat. For meals they tied all the boats together and we passed the feast around. The sail was made out of old jeans and trousers and the main boatman was weathered looking and gorgeous. Anyway no wind the first day so the poor man had to row for 5 hours. This was difficult for the conscience but lazing in the silence was lovely. We saw a few ganges dolphins (apparently endangered). We rowed into the twilight then the boatmen set up camp on the banks of the Ganges for us and fed us another great meal including bollywood music soundtracks on an ancient stereo run by a ... read more

Wednesday 15th November 2006 Yeh! NEPAL Hey guys Well it’s my second day and Nepal and things are going well. Everything is totally different over hear. The place is very, very dirty, probably because it is so poor. But I’ll start at the beginning. The flight from Brissy to Bangkok was long, but a good chance to catch up with everyone. We arrived in Bangkok at 10pm but didn’t get a room in the hotel until much later. Then up early for the flight to Kathmandu. This was very exciting and the best part was seeing the Himalayan Mountain ranges, especially everest peaking above all the clouds. The view was spectacular. I’m hoping to get a little closer, but we’ll see what happens. Arriving in the Kathmandu airport was quite eventful, lining up to get our ... read more

I first noticed the Confederate Flag emblazened on his worn cap. And then the long beard and thick arms swirling with tattoos. Bubba and I struck up a lively conversation while we sat on the cushions of the Pilgrim's Bookstore, sipping on Nepali tea. This giant of a man has travelled extensively in between the Alaskan fishing seasons. While travelling, even in Muslim countries, Bubba sports a U.S. Flag sown on the bag of his leather jacket. He originally came from Alabama but felt it was a bit too conservative and closed minded for his liking. When I told him about the Adventure Cooking Show that I'm developing, he laughed and asked, "That's hilarious, like what? The cook has to fix up some grub on a campfire and shit?" Great idea! I proceeded to ask him ... read more

After a gruelling delayed journey we arrived in Kathmandu at 4.30am. Picture the scene... Dark empty streets. People taking a few vegetables to market. Wild dogs sifting through dark corners looking for scraps. People huddled over small fires. People selling scrap metal in small piles. It was desolute and shadowy with people exchanging curious glances at us. Far from anything I have ever experienced and certainly a eye opening welcome to a poverty stricken underworld of Kathmandu. Today we've experienced so many sights and sounds. Temples with monkeys running over them, 3 cremations by the river side. 1 of which was actually on the roadside about one metre away from me. Apparently these were the 'untouchbles'. People that didn't quite reach to the point in life which entitled them a decent cremation by the river which ... read more

Takze nakoniec sme vsetko uspesne poriesili a zajtra rano vyrazame do Pokhary a ... read more
