Well, got up at 4:30 am to get to airport for flight into Lukla to start Base Camp trek... but they overbooked the plane... Luckily the guide is with me, so the rest of the group will just have to wait until we get there -- the planes have to fly before noon or it gets socked in -- they are small 14 seat short-takekoff and landing -- the runaway at Lukla is built right on the edge of a cliff -- have a flight out at 10:00 -- mountain isn't going anywhere :) Didn't get much sleep last nite -- still running on adrenaline and anticipation of what's to come. Will let you all know how things were in a couple of weeks -- take care, Cam ... read more

"A person needs at intervals to separate from family and companions and go to new places. One must go without familiars in order to be open to influences, to change" Katharine Hathaway Over my travels, I've been fortunate to be able to travel with alot of great people. I've travelled with one of my oldest and best friends, my cousin, some of my closesf friends from the Hammer and even an ex-girlfriend. As my trip approaches its final month, I felt that it was time to go off and do something completely on my own, kept company by only nature. I feel that there is no better place to do such a thing than at the worlds largest mountain. I feel that climbing up Mount Everest will allow me some great time for some reflection ... read more

Hi, Sorry I don't have time to answer some of your individual messages and e-mails... This computer is sooooo slow....!! I am getting up at 4:30 this morning to fly out to Lukla to begin the trek into Everest Base Camp!! I probably will not get the opportunity to e-mail or phone call until I get back out in 2 weeks... If I sat down with you for an hour I could not possibly describe what an incredible day I have had -- it has been a real emotional roller coaster ride starting with flying into Kathmandu and seeing the beauty of the mountains while listening to album Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" on Sony Walkman... Things have been magically falling into place like some invisible guiding force is bringing things together... and I ... read more

Well it's about 9.40pm (don't actually know the real time as everyone here tells you something different and to be honest until we have to get the 7am flight to Lukla on Monday it doesn't really matter!) and the four of us have arrived safely in Kathmandu. What a fantastic city. It's like a mega chilled Udaipur. Thamel, the place we are staying in is a rabbit warren of winding alleys, cool shops selling all sorts of things, carpets, clothes, jewellery. I could spend a fortune here except that there is no room whatsoever in my bag. And I don't understand how that can be as I have brought very few clothes and no 'products'. Strange. The Tibet Guest House is brilliant and possibly my new favourite hotel in my new favourite city. We've been ... read more

EVEREST..... WOW Because it was there, was the famous speech made by Sir Edmund Hillary when asked why he climbed to the summit of Mount Everest.... our reponse if someone would have asked why we climbed to base camp would have been...because we told people we were going to....that was the only motivation keeping our group going up. The experience started with a short 28 minute flight between two sets of mountain ranges and the plane being a little 16 seater with terrible turbulance and the runway of the airport at about a 30 degree angle and roughly 50 meters long, Scary to say the least. We got off the plane and started our first day a nice relaxing 3 hours walk to where we stayed the first night. This seemed like a piece of cake, ... read more

No we want to go to the International Inn!". ... read more

Today we leave Nepal, witch makes us a bit sad. We've had such a wonderful time here. Hopefully we'll be able to come back here. For the first time during our trip we actually talked to some other travellers. During India we were sort of in solitude and the places we stayed at had mostly older couples and locals. But we got to know some locals witch was fun. And in Nepal aswell...mostly locals. So l'd just like to say namaska Nepal or goodbye...... read more

A page out of my "conventional" journal :-) ... The aerial view of Kathmandu prepared me of what to expect; ideal mountain setting, pastures, brick houses and…more brick houses. The international airport reaffirmed my humble expectations. The slow and calm demeanors of immigration officials and the slackness of security told me that I had just landed in another developing country. Waiting at the airport exit were self-proclaimed porters, taxi drivers and all sorts of tourist-service hawkers. Half of them smelled of alcohol and shouted in most of their conversations, some demanded payments for simply stalking me and my trolley. They flocked like pigeons to dazed and disoriented arrivals as if they were bags of corns. They may have spent years at the airport but alien to the word jetlag. The ride from the airport proved me ... read more
