How? How can two so geographically close countries be so far apart in virtually every way? Nepal is so relentlessly beautiful and, on the whole, a hell of a lot cleaner than the country we've just left. After crossing the border we spent a bottom numbing ten hours on a public bus en-route to Kathmandu which we reached during one of their many power cuts (the 'lecky is out for six hours daily). A very welcome sleep later (we had been traveling virtually non-stop for three days) and we were out amongst the jewelry and hiking shops of the Thamel region of Kathmandu. We were exceptionally cheered by the nearest restaurant to our hotel which sold normal western food (that didn't lead to an extended stay on the toilet). The staff at the restaurant were all ... read more

Vores toiletvand froes til is her. Det ... read more

A day in Fishling! Great! The opposite of our days in Kathmandu! 6 o’clock in the morning, Kalu’s family wakes up, with a lot of noise, and we hear the whole village is starting the day! Kalu and I try to sleep a bit longer, but you never know suddenly they come in the room to wake us up, to get some rice, or just to have a look! People are very curious here, and there is no feeling of hiding that! We are lucky, today we can sleep till 8 o’clock, even there is a lot of noise, nobody cares people are still sleeping. But that doesn’t matter a lot; we go sleep early, so we are not complaining about not enough sleep! The day begins for us with tea, and watching how all the ... read more

Namaste! Time for another update! The whole family left, and that also means we don’t have a lot of time anymore left in Nepal this year! It will be difficult to leave this country, to get used to Belgium again, to find our way there, and to prepare our wedding and trip to USA next summer! But the months in Nepal were great; we had a lot of visitors, and made lots of friends again! And the most special of course, was our wedding! The two families in Fishling (my parents, sister and brother in law and cousin) all in Fishling. A bit strange the first moment, the two cultures are very different, and it needs some time to get used to that! A lot of questions from both sides, but we made a lot of ... read more

Namaste! Back in Fishling, enjoying the nepalie village life, away from noisy, dirty Kathmandu. I needed to be out, sometimes it is too much! Even Kathmandu is a very inspiring place, with great people, but there is a lot going on that can be give you a ‘too emotional day’!! And yesterday was one of those days … even it was just a day like the other ones, sometimes you think you got used to everything, and the next moment you don’t know how to handle everything anymore! Our friends from the US (Ashley and Cody) left on Monday morning, too soon to have seen everything, but what to do … it is always too soon! Nepal is a very magical country, with a nature and people who inspire you so much! When you think you ... read more

Well, this is a blog I never expected to be writing.......believe it or not, we are on our way home (four months into our 10 month trip). I have had some unexpected issues to deal with in Vancouver which has meant I need to come home for a couple/three weeks. I am still in shock but I am adjusting towards being really excited to see everyone!!!!! I am sad because it has meant the cancellation of our 11 day trek, a trek that was only hours away from beginning - as a matter of fact, if I had not gotten food poisoning, I would have been deep in the Himalyas...... a huge dream of mine. However, my cats would have been history. I have faith that I will make it back to the Himalayas. For now ... read more
