When I landed in Tokyo a couple of days ago I expected there to be big differences in lifestyle as the Japanese are so modern. There are high-tech gizmos everywhere including heated toilet seats which are fantastic when the weather is as cold as it is now!! However apart from the odd difference here and there I felt like I was in somewhere like China town when I arrived! On my itinerary for the 7th Feb was a game of tennis with Lisa's japanese friends. I left early to get to the station to meet Lisa and made sure I found the place. As I was so early I decided to try a spot of lunch at a local fastfood joint near the station where I was able to consume Japanese curry for just over 2 ... read more

A really early start to the day to get the bus to Mount Fuji!! We were late for our bus but fortunately could get a slightly later one. Took around 2 hours to get there, and when we did arrive the options were too vast so i thought it was wise to ponder over some 'Ramen'!! Huge casserole, and Laura some Yams. Exploration began with the Lake Kawaguchiko in front of Fuji where we could get some photos. What a really beautiful scenery!! There were multiple museums and a hot spa and other bits and bobs, but my main reason to visit was for the view!! Wow!! After a little look at some shops we had to get the bus home, and get ready to pack for the next leg; CHINA!! Really disapointed to leave Japan. ... read more

Lots to squeeze in today. Firstly we went to the Sumo museum in Kokugikan, had a look around all the art work and the videos of moves and matches. Wanted to go to a Tea ceremony at Happoen Garden unfortunately fully booked so scrapped that plane and went on the tube to Shinjuku to the sky scraper district, where we went up in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building. Had views of all over Tokyo in the observatory and such a nice day to see. Great views and we even had lunch and coffee, very poosh!! I wanted to do a Sumida River cruise so we hopped to Asakusa. The boat was absolutely amazing!!!!!!! it looked like it should have be Thunderbird 5!! We passed under 12 unique bridges and saw the Rainbow Bridge for the first ... read more

Today we decided to investigate the Imperial Palace, the weather was fantastic! Wandered around the grounds and saw some some samurai armour, ceremonial displays for the 20th anniversary of the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor (national holiday). We had a laze in the park in the middle in the sun before heading off for Tokyo Tower. Along the way we saw some absolutely huge spiders hanging from some trees, trying to get on my head. On arrival to TT we took some snaps and tube time to Roppongi. We found a retro little eatery called KOHMEN with tv's on the table with crazy Japanese music. We ate noodles with pork and Asahi beers. Had a look around Roppongi which was really vibrant and manic, saw the TT which was all lit up. Got the tube ... read more

Got up early to a pretty gloomy day, but eager to explore. We went to the 7/11 to buy breakfast and had no clue why anything was. I had a pot of noodles and Laura had a ready made peanut butter sandwich, looked like pop tarts!! Also had what I thought was a bun but was actually a custard roll thing. Not good for dipping!! Head out to Asakusa to find a cheap phrase book, more complicated than it's sounds so we gave in. We then went to Sensoji Temple and Asakusa park. All sorts going on, one thing being a cylinder of sticks with a symbol on, you pick one then match the symbol to one on a wall of drawers, pull out your corresponding drawer to find out your fortune!!!! Mine was good, Laura's ... read more

Very early wake up 3:30am. Tokyo time. Coast shuttle took us to airport. First portion 2 and half hours to Vancouver, had a 3 hour wait until next flight. No too bad you would think but at the last minute our plane failed a safety check and we had to wait for a new one, had a $10 meal ticket, starving!! Had Chinese food and read, trying to stay occupied. When we eventually got on to the plane takeoff was delayed due to a Red Alert, ground staff sent away and flights halted for fear of being hit by lightning. Took off 20 mins later and flight was long but pretty smooth, although Laura was less than comfortable I could tell!! 2 nice meals and a few films later we arrived. Did the ott security at ... read more

Miyajima Island Tracy this time. So 9 days to go in Japan. As we're only in Japan for a short time, we kind of felt we had to keep moving and seeing things. Which means we're knackered! But anyway, day 9 and the weather was supposed to be ok before turning to rain the next day, so we decided to go off to Miyajima island. This island was recommended as a side trip from Hiroshima by our guide book, and as we could use our rail pass to get the ferry over there too it seemed like a good idea. The main sites of the island are, you guessed it, a temple and shrine, but apparently the views from the 535m peak were meant to be pretty good, so the plan was to go there and ... read more

Well it wasnt a bad sleep for my first time in a Capsule. Someone woke up at around 7am which was kind of annoying but other than that it was wicked. I actually got up around 930ish getting as much sleep as I could handle. I wasnt sure when check out was but i was pretty sure it was around 10. Got up and packed all my stuff up and charged my camera battery for my adventure. I didnt have an itenerary or anything but I had a bunch of ideas for what to do. The lady came up just after 10 and said time to check outttttt. Ha i dont think too many ppl were staying at the hotel that night so she had to busy herself somehow. After i packed up I put all ... read more

Well i was a bit hung as we got into Narita International. Got though customs no probelms at all. It was kind of cool. They took pics of my fingerprints and my face as well. Not too many questions at all. Got into the bag pickup and mine was one of the last. I was kinda worried that it might of continued on to Bangkok without me. I was ready to report it when i finally saw it shoot out on the conveyor. AHH After that i lined up in the line in the pic. Nothing major its was easy they asked me a few questions and i was off. First i looked outside. It almost looked like Canada but a bit warmer maybe 20 degrees out. After that i got out 20,000 YEN which was ... read more

Hello, All! Well, I've just gotten back from Japan a couple of days ago. It was okay... Or... It was amazing! I had an awesome time with my friend, Mike. We didn't have a real schedule or anything - just general ideas of what we wanted to do and see. I think our priority list went something like this: 1. Eat amazing sushi 2. See REAL Tokyo (not just the touristy stuff) 3. Tokyo Motor Show 4. Tokyo Disneyland 5. Participate in real karaoke I feel pretty confident in saying we achieved all of those things with flying colors. Friday was our flight out of Seoul, so we managed to get to Incheon International in just enough time to check in. Luckily, we had no checked luggage, so we just went straight for the plane. When ... read more
