Today is our first full day in Tokyo! I got to Narita yesterday at 1:36 and had to wait around at the airport for Jordan to come in. His flight was delayed so I wandered the airport for about 4 hours -- Narita is extremely boring. Once he got in we took the train into Tokyo and made it to Asakasa Station. This is where we got lost. The map was extremely easy to follow but we were looking at a different bridge on the map than the one we had to cross, so this led to us wandering for about 20 minutes until we caved and went into a ramen shop to get out of the rain. The guy at the ramen shop was great. We bought a couple bowls of noodles (sakumen for me, ... read more

I will have to be quick - the internet is well expensive here. 70p for 20 minutes!! We have done 2280 miles in the last week! Starting from Hanoi, we got the bus to Nanning in China, that took about 9 hours, then we took the train to Shanghai which took 30 hours! It actually went pretty quick though. Shanghai is a world away from SE Asia, so different. And it was really difficult to order food - all the menus are in Chinese. We gave upand had a MacDonalds. Then we got on a ferry to Japan which took 46 hours. We had a cabin all to ourselves, and it was really nice, we had a tv, a big hot water flask so we could make noodles and tea. They even gave out free travel ... read more

I make my way to Asakusa after the club. It is situated in the North-East part of Tokyo. It is a fair old mission from the area that i am in - which means going, yet again, through fuck-eyed Shinjuku. I am really starting to dislike Shinjuku. It has the worlds biggest train station and it so crammed full of rude people that you just want to SCREAM. Anyway, I arrive in Asakusa around 11am. I take my heavy baggage to the hotel and go to check out the area. I walk down the street that the hotel is situated and see a group of people all waiting outside a little sushi place and decide to wait with them. I am yet to try sushi in Japan and reckon that if there is a queue half ... read more

Off we pop..... Flights are like Christmas... the build up is magic and then once the excitement of unwrapping (take off) is over then it becomes well a bit of a chore. In fact the trip we decided on the wonder of Xmas comes twice with a trip to your least favourite uncle chucked in for good measure. Terminal 5... the pinnacle of our aviation waiting rooms can be described as a next generation (popular phrase these days) greenhouse with terrible coffee stalls, more Harrods than Princess Diana's inquest (3 I think we counted) and lo and behold a Gordon 'F**king' Ramsey restaurant. It kind of left me wondering is there nothing that the UK's favourite Jock won't pimp himself out for?? The name of this 'Venture' is Plane Food (that's a play on words geddit?!?!) ... read more

Sorry for the delayed blog entry - the computers at the Tokyo hostel don't seem to like this website much, and they really don't like uploading photos. It seems to be working now, so I'll try to write up the last three days. As you know, we made it to Tokyo. We went the luxury-route, by paying a little extra for reserved seats on the super express nozomi bullet train, which only took two hours and twenty minutes from Kyoto to Tokyo. We tried to get pictures of it (mainly for Phil) but, because it moves so quickly, we only really got photos of white blurs. It really does move very quickly - the world just sped by! And there was so much space on it, we could just stretch out and enjoy the views (well, ... read more

Hey everyone....Well, we're finally getting around to posting our first blog, albeit this one will be a shortie - typing on this travel laptop I purchased isn't exactly the easiest of feats; I think fingers might be a little to pudgy, but hopefully a Japanese food diet will change that :) Things are going great here in Tokyo. We arrived last Tuesday after a nine-hour flight from Vancouver, and the time change was a little challenging (not to mention a horrendously upset baby sitting behind us the entire way)....We arrived at Sakura Hostel and things have been great. We've managed to check out some of the big sights in Tokyo, and all within a week. Just like last time, we went and visited Shinjuku, Shibuya, Roppongi and Ikebukuro and marveled at the flagrant over-the-top commercialism that ... read more

feb 8 Well we have been on an adventure! Always wanted to spend the night in Japan but not quite this way. We first had a delay in Tokyo which turned into a cancelled flight to Bangkok so the airlines had to put 370 people in a hotel overnight and it took 6 buses to transport us. The dinner provided was awful, really close to non edible. No coffee in the room only tea and the room was definitly made for small people (the sink was only up to my mid thigh) We ate very little of the dinner and I managed to find some beers in a vending machine but it was late so we only had a couple cause we had to get up at 340 am. Funny thing on the flight the next ... read more

feb7 Well we are in Japan. One the more cool airports...... Can you beleive the smokers lounges have been remodeled! Only in Japan.... well maybe other places but Ive only seen it in Japan. A Zen smoking lounge with a 42 inch screen playing cigarette commercials and cartoons, like cigarette stick people jumping into a pool and becoming tired cause theyre ash went out. Not anti smoking stuff, commercials feature cigs for good deals at airport stores......funny.... read more
