Today was our long awaited trip to the Ajanta caves, a series of Buddhist caves carved into the rock face. Most were made in 6th & 7th centuries AD but the eldest is thought to be from 200 BC. They are of interest as the paintings are some of the earliest examples in India. The drive took over 2.5hrs as the caves are 100km out of Ajanta and the roads are in pretty poor condition. Fortunately for me I slept much of the journey and so missed the near miss with a bullock cart when the ox pulling it decided to change direction in front of our vehicle rather fast... As soon as you arrive the charges start. Car parking and ‘amenities’ fee were the first ones (we have no idea what the 10 rupees per ... read more

We arrived in Aurangabad late on the 27th. Having left our first class coupe (I.e. private) cabin on the train the hotel was something of a disappointment. We are staying at the hotel lalitja executive hotel. We couldn’t find any hostels and this place seemed to get good reviews. Unfortunately the sheets were dirty (we could identify one of the stains as being a footprint), the air con is malfunctioning, the room dirty and there’s a lack of any mosquito netting and plenty of mossies around. The shower was freezing (so much for 24hr hot water) and the tea supplies were missing a kettle. Never mind, we went to bed, exhausted, in our silk sleeping bag liners. Sleep was elusive. It’s noisy and smelly (from car fumes and the dump over the road) and it gets ... read more

I was dreading the 6 hours we had as a stop over between Goa and Aurangabad in Mumbai. Partly because there’s not much you can do with heavy backpacks and partly because we had been chatting to a pleasant American on the bus to the station in Goa who was saying how crowded, busy and overwhelming it was. Our train from Goa was delayed by over an hour so we didn’t arrive into Mumbai until 1120 (as oppose to 10am). Our next train was at 1635 from the same station - Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (originally Victoria Terminus), itself a world heritage sight. There are 18 platforms here and as we struggled against the crowds to get out we managed to find the booking hall - part of the original building. It is stunning, with granite columns, ... read more

Spend a day in Essel world; they have some of the amazing and thrilling rides and water activities, perfect for a day-out with friends or family. ... read more

What is herping ? It's the act of searching for reptiles or amphibians. Its derived the same way as Herpetology which is the study of amphibians and replies ("herpein" in Greek means "to creep"). Sounds boring ? You will be surprised by how exciting it can be. How did I come about this ? Well my friend from pre-university college, Ashwin had visited the Amboli Herping camp the previous year and had posted some amazing shots of green vine snakes, frogs and so on which caught my attention since I love macro photography. I had inquired about the same the previous year too but had not been able to make the trip. This year I decided that before I moved to US, I had to do this and asked Nitin to join me. He agreed and ... read more

Travelling is not just about ticking your passport with visas but actually living in a city where you have never been to!!!! This is what I did in my trip to Australia in January 2018. I was accompanying my husband for an official workshop in Sydney and we decided to stay only in Sydney for the entire duration. After checking out a lot of itineraries online, I decided to plan my own chilled out vacation without any plans. I received my visa just one day prior to the journey which caused a lot of stress and last moment rush. So as soon as I reached Sydney, I decided to spend the first two days relaxing and enjoying a much-needed SPA, unwinding after a stress journey and adjusting to the time zone as Australia is five hrs ... read more
