Ahhhhh - we’re gunna miss our train out of Bangalore - the traffic sucks!! Torin says there is nothing for a tourist in Bangalore, work okay, but not touristy. On the train, 3-tier class, with blankets and pillows. Everyone on the train was asleep by 10.30pm. About 7.30am heads pop out the window to look at green, green and more green - we had arrived in Kerala with the monsoon - it was lush and green. From Aluva we taxied to Munnar - 1450m above sea level surrounded in beautiful patchwork tea plantations. It’s a bustling tea/tourist town with fresh local baby carrots on the road side - perfect snack with the local honey, tasting similar to golden syrup. Mount, our driver for Sunday 29th June took us around to all the main attractions with tea ... read more

Ha ha ha I'm in the land of teletubbies, yes that's right rolling hills of tea plantations that look like green spongy carpets you could just dive into. Had a real laugh here met Stevie and Mary who were staying next door and spent a couple of nights chatting about this that and everything else. Went to the tea plantations and visited a damn, echo point and had chance to chat with the ladies that worked in the tea plantations. Was completely drawn in my Stevie and Marys magic tricks that they got from Ooty, will have to visit the magic man!!! ... read more

On the 26th of Feb I arrived back at Kochi train station with no idea where I was going to head next. In all directions I had possibilities awaiting me, but for some reason no where had grabbed my attention. Not being able to make my mind up I sat in the station for a long time feeling a bit in a rut, everything felt like it was at a standstill. After a good hour and a half in the station cyber cafe I had made up my mind. I would head to the hills. Funnily I had not realised that the entirety of my journey bar the brief stint on the backwaters had been spent in India's congested chaotic cities. Getting to the countryside was firmly on my agenda, and with it came the elusive ... read more

Kochi We arrived into Kerala after a very early morning flight, tired and exhausted but after a mid day siesta at our wonderfully welcoming homestay, arose to discover the most beautiful and peaceful of cities ready to explore. Cochin is divided into distinct parts the main modern city called Ernakulam and the old Portuguese fishing port of Fort Kochi filled with history and culture which is where we chose to base ourselves. We spent 3 days in Kochi, visiting the old catholic churches left by the Portuguese and Dutch settlers of yesteryear and wandering the beautiful old streets and beautiful shoreline of the city. Fresh fish was on the menu each night when you would negotiate a price for your chosen fish or seafood with the local fisherman who would then cook the dish up for ... read more

Happy New Year everyone. We published our last blog as we were about to leave Jodphur. In that blog we told you about Penny and Brian who had driven to India from the UK with their three dogs. On our last night in Jodphur we met another English couple who had done the same thing, also in a Land Rover. This pair were on their way to New Zealand by car and boat, a journey they reckoned would take about 18 months. This was their third such trip; they had spent a couple of years driving around Africa and another couple of years driving around South America. Not bad for a couple in their seventies - it makes us feel as though we are not trying hard enough. Still its encouraging to see older people still ... read more

we decided yesterday to hire a driver to take us to Munnar, which is a hill station in kerala. It's been raining a lot and i thought it would be nice to feel some mountain air. Feeling Blue: As we climb slowly in elevation, things become that unspeakable smear of green that i so love. It's the green that only comes from the steady lick of rain.....the green that has a million hues from pale chartreuse to an almost blue. The earth is blood red. Striking really. The rain sort of subsides as we climb, and the sun is starting to sink in the distance. We pass through dense fog that turns all of the vegetation into black silhouettes, and then ascend above the clouds as the last light of the day pulls itself behind the ... read more
