I am falling in love with this place. Totally and utterly head over heels. Why do I have to come home? How will I ever leave these beautiful people behind? The last two days have been emotional, fun, tiring and taught me a lot. So let me tell you about them… On Friday I spent the evening at the LIT centre, my new second home it seems, watching some documentaries on the issues in China and Tibet. We saw three in total, the first being ‘China, from the inside’. If you haven’t seen it, I’d recommend it. I’m learning a lot here about the situation in China and it’s extremely interesting. The last two were tearjerkers for me though. The second being ‘torture in Tibet’. Just a short documentary showing footage of recent happenings in Tibet. ... read more

As I’m in the Tibetan colony of India I couldn’t possibly ignore learning more about the troubles that Tibetans are facing with regards to the Chinese occupation of their territory. After learning just one mans story, I feel a real sadness in my heart for these people. I decided to attend the Tibetan talk at the LIT, which is a volunteer based school for Tibetans to be given the chance to learn English and spread their message and stories in order to keep the Tibetan issue alive. I was shocked by some of the details he gave us and I’m sure he was toning them down to a degree. His name is Sonam and he was a political prisoner for 13 years before finally being set free. 12 of these years he didn’t have a shower ... read more

Durant 10 jours ... read more

Neanmoins, ... read more

Davie spoke of the wonders of the Privati Vally, known for wild weed and natural hot springs... The great thing about the fact there are no trains in the North is that you haven't booked a bus so plans can change, so just like that mine did. We left Shimla on a public bus a little later then we wanted, as we wound along small lands, beeping our way though vallys and mountains, i rocked into silent sleep. Half way though the 7hour jounry i was bursting for the loo, the driver stopped for chai in yes you've guess it a village with no bathroom, as i squatted behind a ruined building in the rain, again it came TII (This Is India!) We arrived in Buntar at 10.30pm, our destination was another 2 hr bus away ... read more

Namaste loved ones!!! Business first: Deb, thank you so much for reading my blog and if you are reading this post please feel free to email me at shannonelees@gmail.com... I would be happy to touch base about my experiences here, and I am home on May 4th so will have a lot more time to answer any of your questions! And secondly, I don't ACTUALLY want my brother to stab anyone with a knife, you can just get these really cool carved antique daggers and I thought what better present for a 21-year-old guy? Let's be real here... So. Varanasi. I don't even know where to start except that when I arrived I had initially planned on going to this place Bodhgaya for a couple days as well but Tessa was horrified at that idea and ... read more

The answer to that question was no, he wasn't at home. But we'll get to that later. Firstly, after a great time in Agra, we treated ourselves to a better class of carriage on the train, 3AC -one with AC, what luxury. We were off to big bad Delhi. We had heard so much about it and we weren't sure what to expect, but it wasn't as scary as we imagined. We stayed in a place right beside the train station, Paharganj, an area that is full with backpackers and tourists so we felt right at home. We got in late enough so found a great place to stay with one of the best showers in all of India - seriously, you take these things as a given at home, but a good shower is such ... read more
