Decided just to block a few days together as to be honest I don't have much exciting to right about. Me and Rob have just been getting into the Goan way of things, eating, drinking and chillaxing. Managed to do a good bit of bartering on Thurs and got some bargain baggy trousers to replace my long ones which now have a fetching hole in the crotch area (squatting is not good on trouser seams). We have drifted through most of our days in our cafe (which plays the same CD's over and over!). On Fri night we went to the Smugglers Inn pub quiz and teamed up with another couple from the UK, came 3rd and there were quite a few teams taking part so it wasn't a bad effort. We ended up being up ... read more

20/2/10: We checked out of our hotel at 9:00 and waited for Jacinta’s good pants and towel to come back as they had big stains on them from being washed by a proper laundry service and had to be sent back. With great relief they return stainless and we walked to the bus terminals 10min away to catch our bus to Margao and then finally to Palolim. The tickets only costed 25rs for both of us as it was only an hour from Panaji. As soon as you bought the ticket you had to get on the bus and with one almost full and ready to go we tried to work out what to do with our huge packs as we had to take them on the packed bus with us. Jacinta was just in the ... read more

We were finally able to put some pics on blog this morning :) Sorted out 18hr sleeper train ticket to go back to Trivandrum on 21st, we'll then get 1/2hr train to Varkala to spend our last couple of days. This means we can do pub quiz on Fri AND, AND, have Sunday dinner!! Had a wander to the other end of the beach today and had a drink at a rooftop cafe overlooking Palolem. Stumbled across an empty beach with just a few boats on. Sat in our cafe trying and failing to answer Trivial Pursuit questions for a couple of hours before tea. I had chilli and although nice it was quite odd like a cheesy curry rather than a chilli. Rob had carbonara but it was nowhere near as yummy as his mam's. ... read more

After a few hours sleep we had a wander along the main strip of shops. Lots of clothes, bags, toiletries :) Had a drink in the Smugglers Inn, a pub that does British food, thinking of going back at some point for bangers and mash! Strolled back along the lovely white beach. We decided we trusted our restaurant enough to try out some meat, I had chicken breast with pepper sauce, it was sooo nice. Rob had the full shebang of steak, chicken and king prawn. Spent the evening watching the waves roll in and the sun set.... read more

Had to be up and out of our room for 10. Spent the day between our restaurant and the internet cafe. Settled our guesthouse bill which came to around 3600Rs (about 45GBP) for 3 days accommodation and food, 9 big bottles of water 7 teas 1 potato egg salad 1 tuna salad 2 veg noodles 5 porridge with fruit 5 lemon juices 5 diet cokes 3 pancakes with fruit 2 veg lasagne 2 chips 1 baked tattie 2 rum and cokes 1 veg sweet and sour with rice 1 veg cashew nut curry 2 naans 1 rice bargain! Got rickshaw (potentially the scariest one yet) to bus place and were told bus would be half hour later than planned so I decided I needed to find a loo, bad idea! On finding the station loos there ... read more

Wow... how time has passed! I'm so behind on this blog business that it's become quite daunting thinking about writing about the past month! This one will no doubt be a quick whizz at the events of the festive season and will ease me into writing again for the weeks that followed - which for travelling adventures and visual sights, will be far more interesting! I left you last in Palolem after the nightmare sleeper bus journey from Hampi, Anna slowly recovered over the week in time to see Laura B arrive on Christmas eve! We had to take two buses to the airport - buses normally going llike a bat out of hell for no reason other than the driver is impatient... but because we wanted to be at the airport by a certain time, ... read more

A month and i bit ago, after many phone calls and texts about traveling India together me and my Dutch man got our act together and booked our flight. On the 7th of January at 10.40am our flight to Mumbai left terminal 5 without us!! Snow had closed Gatwck and tested Mattias' determination to get to London. After 8 months apart we met again as two backpacks in City Airport. 3 tubes and too many hours later we arrived at Heatrow, where we were greeted by around 10,000 angry BA customers in what looked like hundrads of different lines, but after relising it was just two and we would miss our flight we joined the longest one, an 8 hour rebooking que, morning turned into day and day into evening but fanialy we made it to ... read more

Namaste namaskaar! So finally our quest for Asia has begun! After spending almost a week in Goa the feeling is great. Our way to the beaches was a bit rocky one since Kilroy didn't manage to change the destination AND time at the same time (since Finnair doesn't fly to Mumbai anymore). The flight was changed to December 2nd(!!) and it had gone a month ago. Luckily we got to India thanks to Kentsu (a very capable member of staff) who let us in since there was still some space in the plane. The connection flight from Delhi to Goa went without any mentionable problems. Goa is very green and gorgeous, that's what Lonely planet said and it's true. It's an easy start in India since people are a bit wealthier here and it's not as ... read more

I am sitting here on the beach at a makeshift table and chairs infront of ‘Janesha’s’. I’ve had a lovely chat with James whose daughter Janesha is how the resaturant got it’s name, and who also owns 20 pigs who I’ve just watched fighting over the restaurants left overs.. I had to take a break when I realised I was being eaten alive by the endless bugs /ants surrounding the pigs! But it is true that nothing in India gets wasted.. or at least it doesn’t seem too. And with a population of over a billion they have people to constantly clean up after everyone else which is why everyone throws there litter on the road… on the train journey to Goa the lovely Indian man in our cabin was adament that I should throw all ... read more

To Kate's esteemed blog fans - a moment on Ali Baba pants: Some of you may be aware that Kate Paxton has a certain pair of Ali Baba pants that she talks about in the same way one may describe a first born child or family heirloom. They are baggy, blue, and according to her "the best item of clothing in the world". As we were swimming in the warm waters of the Arabian Sea this afternoon, discussing such crucial traveller issues as where to dine and what time to rise, Kate's attention was diverted in much the same way as a pointer will sniff out its prey. Yes, at 100 feet she had spied a fellow traveller wearing Ali Baba pants, walking the other way, quietly minding her own business. "Quick, they're not see through!!" ... read more
