So how does one describe Palolem? You could mention the beautiful beach, palm trees, weather, food, bars, ocean view huts etc etc..... but where's the fun in that? To me Palolem is a world of contrasts. From your ultimate hippie living up in the palm tree wearing nothing but a piece of string covering his crack and a small leather flap protecting his sack to your charter flown English royalty type living in a 5 star hotel - "anyone fancy a game of golf?" Then there are those that fall somewhere in between. I suppose the important message I'm trying to get across here is to choose your company wisely, otherwise you might find yourself playing golf wearing nothing more than a leather flap. The most important aspect that can make or break you here is ... read more

Hello, hello, it's good to be back! Sorry I haven't been more productive lately, you see, I've been on a more conventional style holiday in Goa... The setting for the first two and a half weeks was Palolem beach: with It's two kilometres of gently sweeping golden sand, hemmed in on either side by two palmed headlands, one of which moonlights as Green Island at high tide; enveloping the beach in a perfectly formed crescent, creating in affect, a sand-lined, warm-watery palm-fringed womb. The natural calming affect of this beautiful setting is accentuated by the contrastingly chaotic, dusty, hassling, overpopulated concept of 'real India' which prowls menacingly on the verges of every visiting travellers imagination. Creating a timeless feeling of never wanting, or having to leave. A small minority of hardcore re-offenders populates Palolem, staying for ... read more

We left Anjuna last Wednesday evening and stayed the night in Margaon before heading to Palolem Beach (South Goa) on Thursday. We spoiled ourselves with a room with a TV, and stayed up till 2am catching up on a bit of news, Baywatch, MTV Asia and Bollywood films. Now in Palolem, we're staying in a coco beach hut in the company of Scott and Julie, our friendly backpacking neighbours, whom we met on the bus ride here, and we've also hooked up with Tor and Marika who are staying in huts further along the beach. On Friday evening we found a cool bar called the ‘Laughing Buddha’ where we all spent the evening unwinding to some funky house beats and live percussion. The days are very hot (approx 37 degrees C), so we've mostly been chillin ... read more

Goa is lined with beaches from north to south, with each beach offering something different. I don't really know why I chose Palolem of all the places, but I'm sure as hell glad that I did… The beaches are beautiful, the weather is bliss and best of all, the people here, both locals and foreigners, are great. I have met heaps of people and been a great time enjoying everything Palolem has to offer. Last night being one of the best nights I've had since traveling. After my daily ritual of a swim in the ocean and a game of beach cricket, I sat down at the restaurant next to my bungalow. Sitting on some pillows, watching the sunset, drinking beers and chatting, soaking up the atmosphere, a guy from Liverpool went and got his guitar. ... read more

Lads... this place is mental. The chaos started on the plane when we ordered the Indian Vegetarian dinner and nearly choked to death from the heat. The woman behind B started giving us tips on how to eat our food and deal with the heat. There were tears of both pain and laughter from the pair of us!! And so it began.... So what have we been up to since we left Sydney. We had to spend a week in Bangkok in the end waiting for our visas to come through and after my last adventure in 2002 I was more than a little anxious giving away my passport to a travel agent on Khao San Road. But it arrived when they said it would so happy days. The week in Bangkok was okay if a ... read more

Goa was never meant to be our last port of call in India, but unfortunately our plans to travel further south and then onto Sri Lanka have had to be put on hold for obvious reasons. It has to be said that the majority of our time in Palolem was spent eating, drinking and lazying on the beach, but occasionaly and against our better judgement we decided to venture off the golden sands and explore our surroundings! We took a two day trip up north and visited Goa's capital Panjim. Panjim is typically Goan with the distinct mixture of Indian and Portuguese influences. We stayed in the old Portuguese area of the town in a wonderful (if not pricey) guest house (we had a hot shower!). By walking around the tiny streets it is easy to ... read more

We arrived in Margoa at midday on the 17th December and caught a taxi down to Palolem, a quiet beach resort with golden sands and leaning palm trees. We rented a beach hut on stilts for Rs300 (about 3.50 GBP) per day, dumped our gear and went for a swim in the Arabian Sea. Our days since then have consisted of getting up around 9am and having breakfast. We then lounge around in the sun and sea till lunch time. After lunch we lounge around some more reading, sleeping etc. Then we sit in the bar and watch the sun set with a cold beer. Its then time for the days greatest challenge of picking one of the many fantastic restaurants lining the beach in which to have some dinner! Theres not much else to say ... read more

Danes koncujem s Palolemom.

No spet sem na poti in grem naprej! ??? Ja, si mislim, ... read more

Still heading South towards Karnataka on the way to Kerala - which at some point - given that I don't fall in love with a place and a girl at the same time means I will head back to Delhi to catch my plane to Bangkok. The beaches are beautiful here - the crescent shaped beach of Palolem where yesterday morning the moon was sitting on its side and smiling with Venus directly above was magical - one of many magical things I am struggling to write down without losing the experiencial side of it. ... read more
