Goa - Palolem Beach 14/02/11 - 17/02/11 The beach!! Our flight from Mumbai was delayed for about 4 hours so we arrived late at Dabolim domestic airport. We had arranged for a taxi to pick us up (had to wait poor thing) and cost 1200Rs for the hour and a half long journey down to Palolem (nearest train station Cancona). We arrived at night and had booked (in advance) into the colourful Cuba Palolem Beach bungalows. A bungalow with a hot water guiser is 1750Rs, 1500 without. The Cuba company has bungalows on nearby Agonda and Patnem beaches also. The bungalows look great from the outside, set back on the beach in a semi - circle. They are painted all different pastel colours and have a really nice verandah to relax within. Inside they are ... read more

... read more

So what can I say about the last month in Goa? It’s been a complete rollercoaster, I’ve stayed a lot longer than I expected and I have left the direct area surrounding Palolem a lot less than expected! Kev and I arrived alone in Palolem from Hampi at 5 am, seeing no other option we agreed to pay an overpriced rickshaw fare to take us to a beach hut that would be able to put us up for the rest of the night. In true brother and sister style we fought like children on the bus, leaving us both tired and irritable. Finally after settling in separate locations we start making friends. Kev meets John, Janine and Gilda who live in the same row of huts as him, we eventually all move here (Ma Ritas) and ... read more

Two.. One... Happy New Year! Our time in Goa is almost at it's end. We've stayed here longer than we originally intended because of a nationwide drought in train tickets, but it's been no hardship. Helen left us two days ago after a fabulous holiday and new year celebration. The fireworks and the general atmosphere was electric. We even managed to stay awake 'till gone 2am, the crazy party animals that we are. There are the small things that we'll miss; the best chicken tikka ever, the singing waiters who we've got to know quite well, hut service, sandy bottomed seas and endless games of frisbee and backgammon. There are a few things we won't miss, like the black birds who land on the roof of our hut that sound like elephants, the strange odour that ... read more

As 2010 draws to a close we have been slowing down a considerable amount. After a sunny Christmas (which although lovely wasn’t nearly as good without the obligatory sprout and the people we love) Helen arrived on the 27th and moved in to the hut next door. The things we have in common are the things that we are happily filling our days with; swimming, reading, playing games, eating and drinking. We often find that the day has flown by without us realising and that the planned trip to the other end of the beach will be put back another day. We are being treated very well by the bar staff in our ‘hut resort’. We have a brilliant waiter who sings us our orders back and corrects our English. We have started getting ‘hut service’ ... read more

Palolem was pretty similar to other Goa beaches. It was a stretch of sand, lined with bars and Restaurants selling the same type of food and drinks as everywhere I'd been so far. There were cows, dogs and boats everywhere, but was busier than other beaches, possibly due to it being so close to New Year. It was a bit like a mixture of Big and Little Vagator with Indian tourists in large groups, swimming in the sea next to tourists from other countries such as Russia, France and England. There were also the usual sellers which got quite annoying towards the end of the week. Kelly and I arrived by bus and made our way to the hotel I'd booked months before where Will, Maddy, Lara, Kate and other friends of theirs had also ... read more

The swaying palms, the soft white sand along with the gorgeous green mountains add to the holiday mood on the shore of the Arabian Sea. The beauty of the beach makes palolem the ‘Paradise Beach’. Palolem is the southernmost of Goa’s ‘developed’ beaches.
