China has been a lot of fun so far, I’m loving the food here, but a lot of it is very sweet and greasy. It has been raining quite a bit in Chengdu and the weather is just beginning to get a bit cool. So far we have been to 3 museums which were pretty good. In the first week we went to the Panda Zoo for the day which was fun but all the pandas pretty much slept the whole time. On the 4th of September Oberon, Jonah, Dylan, Summah and I and our home stay buddies went to an amusement park and went on every single ride in the park. On Tuesday the 13th we all took a whole day off school and went on an excursion to a temple at the base of ... read more

Behind each of these student stories, there are many teachers from the Chengdu school and three very busy teachers from Australia. I would like to share one of these stories as a teacher from Cairns Hinterland Steiner School who is on this amazing rollercoaster ride we call an International Exchange. What you may not know is that we have homestay families as well. In my home in Australia, my husband and I shared our home with Elsy (XieYue) for four weeks in Australia and now here in Chengdu i am sharing YanFeng and Ella's home. Just like the students i am making mistakes and unsure about many things. Although i didn't get the opportunity to learn mandarin, so i bumble along with lots of animated hand gestures and exaggerated facial expressions. Fortunately Ella speaks both mandarin ... read more

To China through Steiner... We arrived. WOW! So big! Ni Hao. China is very different but its really cool. I love China so much, it is as good as Australia. I am so excited to be here. I love the food but a lot of it is so spicy! Love the food sooooooo much. I like egg and tomato. Noodling... Dumplings, Rice. China is so cool. The traffic is really crazy! China is very beautiful. The gardens are amazing and my homestay family are awesome. Chinese malls are so cool. I feel a bit sick, change of food or pollution? China feels like home. China is wild, crowded, amazing and so many buildings. The food is soooooo good. There are more trees and green than I expected. So many trees. There are so many people. At ... read more

When I first entered China I could taste twelve litres of petrol in the air per cubic inch. I was afraid of getting lung cancer. When I saw the city I was very confused. Half of it looks brand spanking new and the other half looks like it has been hit by a nuclear bomb 100 years ago and vegetation has just grown through. It is really funny how everyone has such good technology and cars but they don’t all have the best houses. The gardens are pretty amazing. My homestay family keep speaking to me in Chinese even though I have told them I do not understand. When Jenny is there it is a lot easier. Jenny's English is awesome! I am looking forward to more time in China.... read more

... read more

Hi All, The hard travelling is all behind us now. The last leg to Chengdu, via Miangyang was hard. An 8 hour bus journey on some rather amazing roads, but unfortunately after about 4 - 5 hours the scenery just becomes a blur and you want it to be over. At the beginning we must have gone over 4000 metres above sea level as at one point we were above the cloud. From here it was downhill all the way through a gorge, at first fast flowing a mountain stream which became a big river. The towering peaks were incredible. We passed through a national park which again was just beautiful. So staying in Chengdu for a few days just to catch up with some friends before heading off into the countryside for some sitting back ... read more

Cf photos. Bouddha de Le Shan : très cool ... read more

Geo: 30.67, 104.07No trip to Chengdu in complete without a trip to the Panda Research Base. This place just gets bigger and better each time we visit! This time, they had built a whole new enclosure with wobbly bridges and incredibly cute baby pandas. Love it!Back in Chengdu, we managed to find some Digding chaomian. However, Lewis seemed completely oblivious to the sacred nature of such an occasion and I spent the majority of the meal up to my arms in baby poo! Somewhat takes away from the taste!! ... read more
