endlich mal wieder laufen, durch den dschungel, über kleine bäche bis zu dem nächsten dorf. die hitze wird allerdings bald, obwohl wir um sechs uhr aufbrechen, zu drückend für schnelle bewegungen. nach dem frühstück beginnt ein weiterer sehr ereignisbefreiter strandtag. bücher werden ausgelesen, mittagessen eingenommen, aber sonst passiert wirklich gar nichts! lediglich ein regenguss, der seines gleichen sucht, lässt uns kurz aufschrecken und markus rennt tapfer durch den grauen vorhang um unsere sachen von der veranda zu retten. der einzige wehrmutstropfen im paradies sind die zahlreichen sumpffliegen, die vor allem den markus bei lebendigem leibe verspeisen und schrecklich jucken. wir sehen beide aus wie nadelpolster… ansonsten ruhe, ausgeglichenheit, seelenfriede… unter unwirklich kitschigen palmen vor urwald in allen grüntönen, in glasklarem, badewannenwarmen meer. wir lernen sp... read more

Sihanoukville was full of visitors when we arrived. All of them attending the Lunar New Year celebration. Along the beach the government had built a temporary beach volleyball arena worthy of an Olympian. It was broad-striped in reds and whites and the stands were sprinkled with the few folk who could afford the price of a seat. Next to it rose a large stage fronted by a two-acre field for the standing room only audiences. Every night there was a parade of performers. People like Hip-Hop DJ's and matched set, too cute for words, fashion model, young girl pop groups who danced precariously in high-heeled synch while belting out Khmer hits. ostermontag in kambodscha beginnt entspannt am pool bevor es gegen mittag zum flughafen und weiter richtung sihanoukville geht. etwas umständlich mit kleinbus und tuktuk erreichen wir dann auch zu sonnenuntergang unser hotel, das “wish you were here”. die lage außerhalb der eher verkommenen “stadt” und quasi gegenüber des langen beinahe makellosen otres beach sandstrandes tröstet über die mühsame anfahrt hinweg. schließlich bleiben wir ja nur eine nacht. das kleine straßendorf mit seinen zahlreichen, dem strand zugewandten, restaurants und bars erinnert wieder sehr an thailand. man sagt ja, viet nam werde das neue thailand, aber das haben wir nicht so empfunden. vielleicht aufgrund des kommunismus'. kambodscha allerdings mit seinem demokratischen königreich und den damit wohl verbundenen offeneren einfuhrbedingungen, zum beispiel, entspricht eher dem neuen “geheimtipp” thailand. angebli... read more

Muesli and Fanta Lychee: I've had some pretty interesting food and drinks on my trip up to this point. So, I figured I'd put the spotlight on some interesting food and beverages I had along the way that tickled my taste buds. The picture on the left is a bowl of Muesli. Muesli is a German breakfast dish. It is pretty much fruits, granola with some yogurt. Needless to say this dish had me sprung like the German-Asian mixed waitress serving it. One adjustment that would make this dish better would be to replace the yogurt with Noosa yogurt. Then we'll have something special. Something quite indulgent. I also had a Fanta Lychee soft drink and it was pleasant. It grew on me, but I wouldn't describe the flavor as true Lychee. A Must Try ... read more
