We will be spending Feb in S-ville volunteering. It's a bit unfortunate that it is in such a touristy place but we are extremely lucky to be working with this group. We really want to see some part of the country that isn't inundated with foreigners (like us....) and we can get a little teeny better idea of the life there.

We'll only have 1 week after we finish our work and part of that will be in PP talking to some other contacts and organizations for future work.

So... any suggestions of weekend/daytrips from s-ville. Also, really, is Angkor Wat necessary? I know that everyone talks about it but we've always had much better experiences going to the places that no one talks about. There are tons of other temples in the country and I'm wondering if visiting them might be better.

Thanks so much.

(If you give me some really great place that turns out to be wonderful I will tell you about a secret place in Brazil... 😉 )

If you like quietness, why not try Kep? The quietest beach town of Cambodia with mountains, forests, beaches, islands,... I could assure you that you wouldn't see more than 50 ppl in your whole day. And, there are many nice places that even locals don't know about. Reply to this

Thank you! We'll look at it. Care to share info on places the locals don't know about? That sounds like our kind of place. If you'd rather do it off the list let me know. Reply to this

Some good places to visit for Kep where you wouldn't see many tourists or even locals? Well, the whole Kep town itself is always so quiet.

1- Talk a walk circling the Kep National Park. There is a small road, newly named Bopha Brasiddh, that will go around the park with all magnificent view of the ocean, islands, kampot, Bokor hill, salt field,... while the road is like going through the jungle. It will talk 1+ for walking and will $1 for foreign tourist (it's really a shame to charge people visiting the park).

2- Climb up to the Kep National Park. There is a nun's place on the top of the mountains with a few nuns only. There is an old stair (nun's trail) right behind the Beach House hotel to walk to the top for around 40mn. On the top of the mountain, you can walk to the Sunset rock for the best view of sunset and a pure breath of nature.

3- The most famous/visited island in Kep is the Rabbit Island ($8 each for a return boat or $20 for the whole boat enough for 6ppl). There you'll find some foreign tourists if it isn't local holiday, then take a walk around the island for a your own private beach!!! Then you can arrange to boat to take you around the island to see other islands on your return (additional $10-$15, at least half hour more). Or you can arrange the boat to different island where you will find only yourself there. Don't worry about security in Kep!!! I've never heard any kind of criminal case in here!!

4- The Angkol Beach (fishing village) it's 40mn by bike from Kep's main beach. It's a long hidden beach without any development so far. While along the way you'll find salt field & beautiful scenery.

That's all I can think of now. 😉 Remember, Kep is only for someone who love calmness & untouched nature, oh, the fresh sea food too. 😉))) If you want to see some pics of Kep, plz visit my facebook fb page:

I've been in Kep, on/off, for 15+ years already. Feel free to contact me if you aren't not clear about anything!! I am always very happy to share whatever I have!!! Reply to this
